Cruising in a yacht
Sailing on the sparkling sea
Seagulls squawk above
Walking on the shore
Drinking sweet pineapple juice
And collecting shells
Taking a moment
To breathe in the salty scent
Of the pleasant breeze
Sitting in the shade
Under coconut palm trees
And licking ice-cream
Waves washing away
Footprints left in the soft sand
And flooding castles
Shh, listen closely
To hear the sun sizzle on
The ocean's surface
Completely unrestrained, sun drenched and yummy,
Tasting of the tropics, flavors so tender,
Falling from the coconut tree to greet my tummy,
Great amounts of fiber found in each bite….
Scrumptious like the mango, cashew and cherry
And, just like these – they aren’t nuts at all,
Instead, they’re a drupe, fleshy and a little harry,
The coconut palm is the national tree of the Maldives.
Coconut trees can bring 180 coconuts per yield,
Such a delicacy should be mentioned as quite tasty,
They bring so much sweetness to those who’ve peeled,
Despite those who thought coconuts were afflicted with a curse.
Though I didn’t realize the wonders of this flavor,
Now I know what it means to use coconut oil -
Feel the marvels of this amazingly beneficial savor,
Enjoyable in so many ways I can’t even illustrate.
Coconuts are more than just nuts that fall from the tree,
They pour out wonders in oil, butter and beverages,
Lasting long enough to prove that, to some degree,
Their charms make hearts flutter with appreciation for the drupe!
I dream of spending my hibernation
on a coconut palm in the Caribbean
where instead of sleeping
morning, noon and night
I’ll be too busy
chomping down nutty peanut cakes
and sipping daiquiris of acorns and coconuts!
Black
sandy
full-of-life
magnificent
beaches with laid back coconut palm trees
Welcoming both surfs and surfers back in
for a relaxed
breathtaking
sunset
view
walks
neath a
lunar rise
as a starred sky
pauses for fallen stars on a black beach.

Rural eyes fall upon my white guest with golden hairs.
She’s put on jeans, not a sari, and an orange T-shirt, not a blouse.
Brown children chase her in wonder along our country road.
I’m her host- cum- guide just for a day.
My Indian English and her Finnish English meander through the mist.
Kids clap her risky balancing on a fallen coconut palm across a pond.
Applause replaces her nerves.
She buys a paper bowl of parched peanuts.
Brown vendor’s eyes prick her white skin.
And we return like the sun amidst the saffron splendor.
Water boils in my kettle in the kitchen.
Her tongue drops sugar.
Smell of sweet vibes wafts up from my mind’s coffee mug.
I resist my hot impulse to pinch on her chubby cheek.
And I bundle everything up in a precious smile.
Looking out, everything but the mountains
seems affected by wind today
It drives the sea green water that divides
our little island from the other bay
Coconut palm leaves, wildly sway
color and movement, vibrant, alive
Hedges shimmer, verdant with flowers
Tropical warmth between blowing showers
And, under cloud shadows, at the foot
of the Koolaus-
one sunlit meadow

Nature's tit- bits!
Gentle droplets of rain
on the colocasia leaves
slide like glossy silver grain
wish these pearls my palm receives
and I weave them into a chain!
A black-pepper vine
climbs round the coconut palm
saying 'am yours and you mine
wish this obsession to my heart embalm!
and me in my love -life assign!
In the moist soil take shelter
black ants and the root-grubs
safe beneath the damp leaf litter
My heart seeks refuge in such secure hubs
and wish my life with deep trust glitter!
A squirrel burries the nuts in soil
leaves there to sprout as it forgets
Trees do come up as bad weather foil
wish I plant in my life such goodness
and let sweetness in others' life uncoil !

It answered to my thirst from the top
When I watered a coconut palm root
My hands stroked his head's top
He kicked me in force with his foot!
The sea was calm on that fateful day
The crew keen and eager to get on their way
The cargo was loaded, all men were on board
The captain at the helm was standing tall
They raised the anchor with a mighty cry
And bade farewell with a heartfelt sigh
Leaving their loved ones with a fond embrace
Not yet knowing the perils they faced
They raced through the waters with rapid speed
The sails billowing out as the captain took heed
Of the clouds building up looking heavy and mean
Would they make it to safety and land unseen
But the seas became heavier, their faces were ashen
When the captain gave the order with gusto and passion
“Toss the cargo to the sea, we need to make light
Or we’ll not make it through the long, dark night”
They threw the cargo over the side
With speed and haste and nowhere to hide
But still they were sinking with no hope in sight
Of land, or man, or a guiding light
And in the still of the morning when all was calm
While the waves rolled in under the coconut palm
All that was found on the distant shore
Was flotsam and jetsam from a ship no more

As I trudge along with fancy and conceit,
Tender soles and bare feet.
Sandy saunter through virgin sands,
Pathways lead up to blue waters of Malvan beach lands.
A groove of coconut palm stands swaying tall,
Shady steps embossed as pass on us all.
Yellow-Green thatched leaves shades, cool breeze swipes south west,
Ham mocked nets to cradle me lax if I rest.
Cool breeze blows now is saline but strong,
And the blue water melts to white foam.
Lone eagle soars blue virgin skies,
Many more from the brood join in and swirls as fishing boat gently pass by.
A murder of crows’ pelagic fish they feast as on wet sands they briskly hop,
Siberian crane, solitary sweep grabs sandy fish &thaws into the backdrop.
I trudge along with fancy and conceit,
Tender soles and bare feet.
In the heat, indiscreet……….
All clear ,no signs of jungles of concrete
There is an island
In the Pacific ocean
Surrounded by blues
In various motions
The blue of the water
Reflects from the sky
Turquoise and dark
Either makes me sigh
With mountains of lush green
In sloping canvas
Varieties aplenty
Trees and grasses
Species so different
Grace this land
Where they have thrived for years
As it has never been manned
Golden beaches
Glitter her coast
Where the blue waves caress
Its where i sigh the most
Coconut palm trees
Figs, berries and roots
In glorious harvest
Natures fine fruits
Please close your eyes
And join me there
As you open your eyes
All you can do is stare
Where is this island
Do you all want to hear
Its in the Pacific Ocean
Oh how i wish i was near

Sulphurous moments, shadowed
beneath natures natural defences
Tenderly swaying, the coconut palm
leaves transmute devising my fan blades
Refrigerant elegance appreciated greatly
chilled iridescent cocktails assuage
My acousma heightens as the waves lash
such a lovely sound, to woolgather
To think about your next write, possibly
let us face it, we all do it x
