Darkness floods my mind
Morning spills its quiet blue
Colour wakes my soul
she swooped in and around us
the dogs were curious
I had never seen such a dark butterfly
She was not as large as a luna moth
but rather large in butterfly circles
velvety black
when she landed on my foot and opened a bit
I noted that she also had gorgeous periwinkle blue
not a lot, but enough
I did a bit of research
She looks more like a black and blue monarch
than any other kind of butterfly
This delighted me
I had not seen a monarch for two or three years
She is still circling us.
Bruised colors emerge,
Silent stories etched on skin,
Wounded whispers sigh.

You stripped me from my innocence.
painted me black and blue you'd tell me that you loved me but honestly it wasn't true.
You told me I was beautiful and that no one else compared.
Expect for the entire naiborhood who would have stopped and stared.
you told me not to tell anyone and even if I dared it wouldn't have honestly mattered because no one would have even cared.
You told me no one could love me and you sore your words to be true.
You stole me from my innocence & painted me black and blue.
(A sad lone voice whispers)
My old love
Loved shaking her crow blacked hair
As old daydreams tumbled around her
Like autumn leaves in the air
On any given day or night
Dreams of divinity
Of God and light
Like the first thing you see when you close your eyes at night
Temporal spaces filled with familiar faces
Crooning like nameless mockingbirds
Under a watchful moon
Dreams of us as a pair
Regale my eyes with surreal memories of us
Everywhere I now look since
God closed that Crimson Book
Us entwined at sea
Surrounded by floating red roses as seagulls watched
Laughing like playful innocent school children
Free from all fears and good behaviour
But now the
Ancient Ones have called at midnight to remind me
“Those who once laid entwined in their sea as their seagulls watched
Will soon get a visit
From The Midnight Hunters from The Black and Blue Lodge”

It's not always the old grayscale streaks of black and white hues,
Sometimes it's emotional recalls shaded in more black and blues,
Especially when it comes to my own heartache for all of yous.
You never ask my race my face
Tells a solid story or two
Of a possible relationship to ancestors
An old African truth
You mistake my hair for weave
Or some other mystery
it kinks and curls down my back
It waves in water prompting
The all asked you got Indian in you
Why do I have to be anything other than black and beautiful
Of course my ancestors were raped
My blues come from all kinds of hate
Suffered by my chocolate race
From the men women to babes
No one dares say
My black is blue in all its cool
Images of singing blinging truths
It’s beauty like blue eyes in brown cousin
It’s duty like blue cries and night lovin
You never say you see a queen in me
A queen who survives despite defeat
Of broken dreams broken body
Strong enough to love and still will peace
My black is blue of unknown tribe
Look beyond my hips and their lips that lie
You don’t mind condemning Hitlers kind
But the kkk and police are fine???
My black is blue like the deep sea
The universe created in me
To bring forth life in every shade
You can’t deny me
You can’t wash your face
And wash dna away
I have always lived in a gray area.
Weary of the red tape
I ever resorted to white lies,
That only made me
the black sheep of my family.

Right now it's peaceful, beautiful
These moments here with you
These times we share, the two of us
Between the purple, black, and blue
Regrets and fears in limbo lay
So quietly, await another day
And you with me together lie
Between the purple, black, and blue
And as the twilight turns to gray
When you and I have gone away
All we shared will always stay
Between the purple, black, blue

Out of the blue came the black,
Shattering the skies with a terrible crack,
But what is gold if one can't enjoy it?
But what is black if it breeds on the tormented?
Can black breed on a soul that was tormented long ago?
Surrounded by the true vultures and an innocent soul.
This hell is mine of this I'm sure,
But when I look in the mirror I don't see pure.
I have no time for anger, I have no time for blame.
Ash to ash, dust to dust,
We all become the same.
Black and blue hair
my mother had it
So did Black Beauty
Black and blue suits
all over the conference room
The best combination
Black and blue cars
The favorites through the 90’s
The prettiest actually
Black and blue paintings
of vampires and shadows
sobering the atmosphere
Black and blue planets
sharing the galaxy
and enticing my imagination
The room is dark and my
heart races with fear
He has hurt me before
beating me black & blue
I tried to escape him but
there is no escaping
I fear if I leave him
He will kill me
I ran I ran until I couldn’t
Run anymore
I ran I ran but he always
Finds me
He beats me black and blue
Like Ike beat Tina
He beat me black and blue until
He couldn’t no more
I scream I scream pleading
For him to stop
He is taking my life with
With every punch
And every slap
Your hurting me Your hurting me
I start to scream
He beat me black and blue
BLACK & BLUE
are the colors that
you turn to
like the others that
he once knew
when he met you
and let loose
where you find
he is not so
nice a guy
truth or dare
it's a lie
every time
he'll apologize
promising
he will not
do it again
till he raises his
angry hand
low on promise
high on demand
still, you stay
with no plans to
run away
but will you
survive the day
his fits of rage
who's to say
where he leaves you
with no clue
every time he
backhands you
will you even
make it through
the next round of
pity you
BLACK & BLUE
There was an Irish guy who loved to dance,
when his kilt swung high the ladies would glance,
but snow on St. Patrick's Day
made him fall in such a way...
his bruised leprechaun gets no more romance!
Black and blue.
Looking in the mirror, those black and blues
spread on my body , those black and blues
some dark, some light those black and blues
he said I deserve them, those black and blues
he said its my fault, those black and blues
Scraped knee and a cut lip too
everything I could have avoided,
I could have walked away
instead I decided to stay
Kill my ego, integrity, everyday
Everything will be fine, I know, I pray
Pretty soon, I m wearing a gown, navy blue
Laughing, his hand in mine leaning on him,
Dancing, drinking, everything so old now
It will never happen again I know
Can't dance to the fullest,
my body still hurts, those black and blues…..
