When I Stop and Pray

When the storm clouds boil around me,
And the lightning splits the sky--.
When the howling wind assails me,
And life's sea is rolling high--
When my heart is filled with terror,
And my fears, I can't allay--
Then I find sweet peace and comfort,
When I simply stop and pray.

When the things of life confound me,
And my faith is ebbing low--
When my trusted friends betray me,
And my heart is aching so--
When the night seems black and endless,
And I long for light of day--
Then I find a silver dawning,
When I simply stop and pray.

There are things beyond the heavens
I can't begin to understand,
But I know that God is living,
And I know He holds my hand.
Yes, I know He watches o'er me
All the night and all the day--
And He's always there to hear me
When I simply stop and pray.

I am the diamond
     that breathes
     in your hands;
The fine lace to sway in
     breezes through windows
     as I crumble dedans la pirouette;
The cyclone, the earthquake,
     implosion of power
     in your arms.

          Spin me a room,
          Weave me a rainbow,
          Pull me to you and
          push me away.
          Burn me, absorb me.

I tumble, trip, fall,
     to be lifted by you,
     elevated, levitated;
Finest rags, softest fringe,
     ripple around
     last evening light;
Raise me slowly
     on tiptoes;
Rescue me, scream my name
     loud.

          Spin me your laughter,
          Catch me, don't drop me,
          Pull me to you,
          never push me away.
          Dance, don't stop.

Never stop.

STOP RIGHT THERE!!!
NOT SO FAST….
Just where do you think you are going??!!
Do you think you can just walk away!!
You have work to do.
Tighten up that Sonnet
	Tidy up those rhymes
Feel the drumbeat of that meter
				…the juxtaposed delight
					….of sitting back and knowing
						     …..you finally got it……WRITE.

WIPE THAT SMIRK OFF YOUR FACE!!!
You know you love it.
	The torture of the keyboard
		words tumbling from the pen
			the beginning
				  the middle
					 the all elusive end

DON’T GIVE ME THAT OLD SONG AND DANCE!!
Remember those first crumpled
				unfinished
					discarded
						recovered
							reworked
								polished
									failures

DON’T MAKE ME COME OVER THERE!!!
Have you forgotten that first poem??
The one you read to your dog?
		in a whispered voice
			as his tail wagged
				and your voice
					brushed his coat
						        with poetry.

YOU ARE A POET!!
Your words,
	like butterfly wings,
			gently alter
				the currents
					of the universe.

There was a time, when the sun was our guiding light,
amidst clouds of twilight that paint our skylines bright.
There were no misleading traffic signals,
halting our ride into the mysterious nights.
A shimmering candle was the spark of truth within-
reflecting intuitions that guide through confusions.
Life was then a simple highway with fewer obstacles,
yet in our ignorance we refuse to see—
we've long followed flawed stars dressed in glowing moonrise.

I ponder, when will rain wash away hazy riddles?
as my heart is hollow and I feel empty,
like a lost gypsy on the sidewalk of a nameless street,
wrapped in a blanket of hope,
longing for empathy over a cup of poetry.

Maybe there's still a secure path for the ones that wander,
to steer without looking sideways for toxic trespassers,
lurking in curved corners behind unsupervised stop signs,
flickering amidst double lies of deceptive lines.

Stop Eyeing My Candy

Clothes all clean
but the washing machine
ate up all my panties.

Raced to the store
to buy some more,
But bought instead some brandy.

Stopped at a shop
for a lollipop;
a treat I find so dandy.

My skirt fell down
In the middle of town.
Now everyone's eyeing my candy!

My darling
I miss you oh so much
Tears flow like a rampaging river
Whisper my name like a melody on the breeze
Being together, safe in your loving arms is all I need
I rouse from my slumber alone, dreaming you will return to me one day

When Darkest Of Blues Will Not Stop Pounding

Standing atop this high cliff, clouds floating on by
Watching last sunset, red-tint paint splashing blue sky
Now finding life, has stooped to beat me up again
Despite my deep courage, embraced through thick and thin
No honor felt in this lost state I am at
Broken wrangler with no horse, no damn cowboy hat
Just a dying soul, trying to live to hold on
Now that the beauty of life's colors have all gone
Weeping into winds once found to be clear and fair
Missing that love, only mother and child can share
Glancing down, life and earth seems so damn far below
So many exits, yet I have nowhere to go

Standing atop this high cliff, clouds floating on by
Watching last sunset, red-tint paint splashing blue sky

Robert J. Lindley, 2-17-2017

Note; One day gleaming sun does so shine. Next day it hides and laughs in wicked glee.
There is now a huge hole in me. I wish to drown, in the next storm in this dark, raging sea.

Premium Member Eyes that Stop Time

The Serpentine road winds endlessly,
Adrenaline rushes in my body, passion fills my mind
Even if the road ends, the best is still ahead.
Everything paused when I first saw your eyes,
My heart races when we meet gazes
I admire poetry with adulation — only with you.

Amber shades glisten in enchanting waves,
Your familiar gaze makes me fall for you
Butterflies flutter in my stomach exhilarated.
As I scribble your name on pieces of paper
When I meet other girls my mind returns to you
My nightmares revolve around the fear of losing you.

The stars glimmer in an ecstatic glow above us
I find you shining in the gleam of our twilight
Seasons may end and shift but I am still me-
When our lips unite, I feel as if the galaxy is exploding
You say you love me most, and I can't control my feelings.

The beating of your heart is so melodic
A tune that sends vibrations down my spine
Inside of you, is me, I am finally home.

Stop Crucifying the Truth

Stop crucifying the truth
How many times will you try to conquer this truth,
born to a people who are held to a truce,
of a lie?

Compromises and deceptions are running wild,
uncovering truth but no where to hide,
Now you must abide.

With a bridle in your mouth and with compromise holding tight,
you must fight, for truth to be saved
or die to the grave

Real truth is on the manifest,
put me to the test.
I will stand with my sword in my hand
and truth will rise again

Truth reveals your past, present, and destiny,
 can you see the reality?
Stop crucifying the truth; with your hair, colors, nails, clothes
and most of with the words you pose.

Reveal your self through truth
and don’t turn away,
the creator is watching, listening and taking note,
of a people who has the truth,
but wear a fake coat.

Stop crucifying the truth

Conformed, complacent, criticized, clueless
and don’t realize,
your demise

Truth is life
and you must fight
all the lies insight

Until truth prevail
 from this dark ass hell,
of reality

Truth (the messiah)
 will rise again
and become a friend

When siren screams become silent
to ears for which a heart has stopped;
billions of beats - a billion thoughts,
are not stilled, they survive
in pauses that stare, and dreams
        that start awake
and in journals where scribbles trace
where those thoughts rhyme and wander.

There's a sign ahead, at trail's end,
yet no one's there to wake us,
to say - don't go, but,
we've already moved beyond...

Premium Member Never Stop the Dance

There is a time to dance.
A time not to dance.

I remember when we danced.
Now I have no desire to dance.
Nor for you to dance for me.

You've danced all your life.
Danced night and day.
Different styles of dance
Dance is all that you breathe.
You are the queen of dance.

I know no one will dance like you.
No one will know my dance like you.
My feet will never forget our dance.
There will be no last dance with me.

Thank you for the memories of dance.
Never regret your soul dancing.

a bus stop
with a shelter

remote and
standing tall

surrounded by
bleak countryside

where no one
lives at all.

does anyone
get off here?

just who
the heck gets on?

where does the bus
that stops here go

and where does it
come from?

She stands invisible to any fair go,
Mentally bashed to a paste,
In a world where she is not wanted,
Where she is simply erased,

Where none of her self is accepted by men,
Women distrust her as well,
Where she is politely told to vanish,
To crawl back into her shell,

She’s been beaten and bashed and raped by angry,
Pushed to the fork in the road,
This academically gifted heart beating girl,
Has been pushed right out to the cold,

She believes what folks whisper about her,
She believes the things that they say,
She believes she doesn’t fit into this world,
That she’s defective because she is gay.

Stop the Abuse

Why do we let the people who supposedly love us, abuse us?
Abuse has many forms but the most insidious is verbal
Physical pain is forgotten but the spoken word has a great impact on our minds
We are constantly put down, told we are useless, nasty things said by someone who says they love us.
Abuse is not only against women and children
Many men are also in abusive situations
Many of us feel it is all our fault, that we caused it
Any type of abuse should be addressed, we need to stop hiding it and let the world know that we have a worth and that we don't deserve to be constantly hurt by those who say they love us.
We need to stand up for ourselves and our families, but we also need to help friends
who we suspect are in abusive relationships
We need to make a stand and stop the hurting.
I know of what I write because I lived it as did my family.
I was one of the lucky ones.
Others are often not as fortunate
We need to make a difference and make abuse a thing of the past.
