As a seventeen year old competitive swimmer,
the other swimmer I looked up to was Mark Spitz,
he was a multiple gold medal winner,
a wonder in the water, a swimming blitz.

I had Olympic dreams,
my element was the aquatic,
but life took me in another direction, it seemed,
the lure of going to practices seemed less exotic.

How I loved the smell of the pool chlorine,
I sliced through the water as if a dolphin,
I so cherished the marine,
but other obligations needed to fit in.

The working world was calling,
and aspiring for the Game's gold had to
be retired,
but I was elated Mark had world records
falling,
and I still feel inspired.

As another Summer Olympics comes to
a close,
I'm proud of the athletes who devote their
time and sweat to their sport,
and I surely suppose,
I'll always treasure my long ago youth
in New York. ~

Born Of Ash, Under Fires That Fed False Olympic Gods

Born of ash, under fires that fed false Olympic gods
First, scrounging this earth, as dark-clad beasts
Blinded, heaven gazing, begging to be lightning rods
Creating hallow golden halls, to throw huge orgy feasts.

And Fate ordered, moaning echoes to fly in darkened winds
Against its great rival Time and how foolishly it spends.

Was her salty kiss, waves of honey sent from cavernous pits
Her promises, sad curses hidden in golden warped lies
She blinded by wanton pleasures and her deep venomous spits
Oaths sworn under hellish whispers and blackest of skies.

And Fate ordered, moaning echoes to fly in darkened winds
Against its great rival Time and how foolishly it spends.

Born of ash, under fires that fed false Olympic gods
First, scrounging this earth, as dark-clad beasts
Blinded, heaven gazing, begging to be lightning rods
Creating hallow golden halls, to throw huge orgy feasts.

Olympic Ice Skaters

It must be strange to do your best
And find out what you never guessed –
That critics find your style a bore
And so do judges, when they score.

You’ve practiced ‘til you couldn’t move,
Rejoiced, at times, when in the groove,
Watched every ounce that you would eat,
Rejected friends who’d want to meet…

Repeated jumps and spins and twirls,
Made sure your teeth were gleaming pearls,
Went over music, outfits, hair
In hopes you would be skating there.

And now at last, Olympics start;
You calm your nerves, control your heart.
You hit the ice, you do your best;
The judges, though, are not impressed.

How lucky I, to have the time
To watch Olympics all the day.
I have not written one small rhyme
For fear I’ll miss some of the play.

To watch Olympics all the day
Means I don’t get my housework done
For fear I’ll miss some of the play.
In Rio town its rain or sun.

I don’t get my housework done
My favorite has lost the race.
In Rio town its rain or sun.
There’s disappointment on his face.

My favorite has lost the race
I haven’t written one small rhyme.
There’s disappointment on his face.
How lucky I, to have the time.

What thing seems to make men King Kong?
It lies under Michael Phelps’ thong
With each stroke of grace
See a free style freebase
That huge bulging spot is a bong

The Olympic Medal

The Olympic Medal

To be given a gold medal
You have to win the gold medal
To take drugs and cheat
Is winning without merit
To dishonour the olympics
Is to dishonour Yourself.

Olympic Drinking

O' me favorite sport must be drinkin.'
That's the way that God made me I'm thinkin.'
For it seems without fail,
If I start quaffin' ale,
That the landlord will send me home stinkin.'

Olympic Opening Ceremony London 2012

A dancer; "Doctor"
I was an Olympian;
great ceremony!

Olympic Equestrians

Nothing is so beautiful
as equestrian events,
watching graceful horses,
while droppings add their scents.

For true equine lovers,
there is such a thrill
in the coordination of
a well-performed quadrille.

This is one Olympic sport,
where both he and she compete.
Jumping fences or dressage;
they're equal at the meet.

If Chronic Pain Were Olympic Sport

'If chronic pain were Olympic sport'

Morning shocks me with a jolt
Night time flies like Usain Bolt
If dream of sleep were 'lympic pride
My pain within I'd win not hide
If feeling tired, was winning gold
My chronic illness medal hold
We would be there chasing Mo
If energy won at being low

If 'pushing through' meant top of game
And trembling hands meant pride and fame
If migraine vice meant all things nice
And neck strain drain meant King of pain
If winning crunch was base of spine
Or BP drop that renders blind
We would excel Olympic pride
Where no one you love would dream you 'lied'
They'd even know it's genes so fate
They'd say 'I believe' not 'you exaggerate'

If feeling drained was strong like Phelps
Where tiredness reigns and brain fog helps
POTS fatigue, compression nylons
Clunky shoulders easy bronze
If Olympian meant broken bowel
We'd feel their pain, lay on beach towel
For every day we feel that burn
From joints all round and stomach churn
If chronic pain were Olympic pride
We'd win hands down, in bed would hide

Olympic Corruption

Sebastian Coe
has recently pleaded just how could he know?
much evidence tainted
that man with the needle who frequently fainted.

Olympic Silver Medallist

Start

This 21-year old girl, Sindhu
From the land of the Hindu
Set the badminton court on fire
Her opponents in a quagmire

The shuttle flew like a bird
Dropped without being heard
In the other corner of the court
Giving no chance to retort

She wove magic in her game
In her quest for universal fame
As adversaries surrendered by the way
She strode like a colossus each day

Her delicate drop-shots caressed the net
Gives her a sure point you can bet
Her vicious smashes pierce the court
The only defense is to build a fort

A prodigy like her is rarely born
Whom the entire country might adorn
An analysis of her winning ways
Suggest only resolute mind and effort pays

The Olympic medal she has won
Has brought cheers to everyone
All fans are saying in one voice
“CHAK DE INDIA”, she’s our choice

Premium Member Female Olympic Gymnasts

Running into a fixed object
Must send senses into conflict,
Yet girls hit that horse at full spree.
Watching female gymnasts thrills me.

Parallel bars seek perfect catch,
Sailing, holding forms few can match,
Then sticking the mat easily.
Watching female gymnasts thrills me.

Girls transfix on a four inch beam
Where flips, splits, and cartwheels are seen.
Bodies rip and zip moves freely.
Watching female gymnasts thrills me.

Floor routines spark my excitement.
They toss, fly, leap in amazement.
I become spellbound with pure glee.
Watching female gymnasts thrills me.

Spry bodies do things mine will not
With talent hot and grace on spot.
Gymnasts defy known gravity.
Such sights give goose bump thrills to me!
