Poet’s note: this poem is dedicated to my beloved father, Albert, who will be 94 years old on April 27, 2021. Though he deals with a myriad of age-related health issues, it hasn’t tarnished his golden essence. His mortal heart and mind may be aged but his loving spirit is ageless.
Updated note: my dad, Albert, a.k.a. pépé (French Canadian for grandpa), passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 10, 2021. He will forever be loved and missed by those of us he left behind.

when last rays of autumn - tip toe along to sunset streaked reveries
listen to the crisp breeze of fallen fairies - truth floats through tawny tunes
whilst crickets chirp - lulling grieving trees - silhouette of sky bursts in gold
a crumpled haven of seraphic swings - whistling wind-swept dreams of brown
as twilight bleeds merlot red runes - shifting shades of coral pink clouds weep
flurry flakes curve - amidst a deep labyrinth of chamomile silence
butterflies rest upon rain rinsed roses - exhaling brisk balmy blues
timeless tales of forgotten tulips - yet between dusk and dawn faith thrives
and frost-kissed hope - swiftly turns a new leaf - feathered with crystal belief
but - if to love your moon is madness - let stars fade into cosmic dust
maybe someday this heart will no longer hurt for the innocent souls
as every child's turquoise dream turns into a sea of bleeding bullets
every mother's fruitful orchard wilts into a field of broken bones
but are we too blind - reluctant to see the truth beyond skin and name
walking through a fog of ignorance - dressed as egoistic preachers
bringing shame to the oath of a warrior - weaving poetic lies
what has become of life - does peace come with an unattainable price
maybe someday the weight of these words will weigh heavier than hatred
and the moon shall rise and sprinkle glistening pearls upon eclipsed spheres….
for now, a world without war, I shall weave in seraphic syllables
Life led by the thoughts of another...will never be your own
one feeble couple barely survives
a broken gate swings in the wind
