Olympic Ice Skaters

It must be strange to do your best And find out what you never guessed – That critics find your style a bore And so do judges, when they score. You’ve practiced ‘til you couldn’t move, Rejoiced, at times, when in the groove, Watched every ounce that you would eat, Rejected friends who’d want to meet… Repeated jumps and spins and twirls, Made sure your teeth were gleaming pearls, Went over music, outfits, hair In hopes you would be skating there. And now at last, Olympics start; You calm your nerves, control your heart. You hit the ice, you do your best; The judges, though, are not impressed.

I was! I love the winter ice skating, it thrills my awe as does the summer gymnastics. Sometimes I literally hold my breath with excitement. I'm not sure which performance rocked your pen, but it delivered from a spot well dug in and I think judges should feel your mark on their chin! You are such a good writer. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

Hello Ileen. I like the figure skating in the Olympic, it is the only event I watch. I like the routine they do to music. Have a nce evening my friend.

Yes, it has to be a let down, and, yes, figure skating is an expensive sport. I used to be a figure skater in my late teens and applied to Ice Capades. My demonstration was okay but my looks were not what they were looking for. Blond, blue-eyes boys, not brown eyes and brunette. No matter, it was my favorite sport – the closest thing to flying on my own. / M

This is very true, very well put and flawlessly interpreted as a poem. Sad it is true, but maybe that makes the high of winning so much more! Just sayin'..80).......(A FAV for me!)

Too bad for the judges...You certainly did your best...Even judges aspire in a contest...So who judge the judges, who can truly say who was best...But as your poem say,"The judges, though, are not impressed."
