Best Meanderings Poems
perusing skyward
on crisp, lucent nights
a symphony plays,
strumming ancient light
on vernal heart strings
who can perceive
these melodies,
seeming to muse
the tantric soul…
pondering
astral notes
through tired eyes

Basketball-Meanderings
Played basketball with Fred at a church.
Haven’t played basketball
since my daughter
was a twinkle in my eye.
All the things
I used to do with a ball,
I had put away
in a file marked “use to.”
Sometimes, I take it out,
dust it off, look it over,
then put it back for later.
Every now and then,
I make a basket, throw a pass,
that reminds me
of the “use to” file.
That file gets added to daily.
I just don’t use it
as much as I ‘use to.”
DANIEL - APRIL 2012
Don’t mind your habits, but they’ve made your mind.
Round the next corner, things will get better.
Until that one fell day when you do find
The credit’s come due and you’re the debtor.
You’ve hidden yourself away out of fear
With sea-green moat, tower, thick sandy walls.
Predators finally could not come near
But no one else can come knocking at all.
Pick yourself apart thoroughly, the pain
Is less than if they figure it out first
Sisyphean task for your fevered brain
A foul practice, but better than what’s worse.
The lonely stone walls, old bones in the keep,
Dragons in the moat, free from invasion.
A lofty view of the bustling street
Looking out from the high crenellations.
At dark shadows you jump, the things you fear
All may have once contributed to it.
But all these things become irrelevant
When you find out that the fuse has been lit.
What smoldered for ages has now caught flame
Under countless, caked layers of plaster
No longer doubtful luxury of blame
To avoid an explosive disaster.
From numbness has hardened the deepest ache.
Seems the one in the keep is missing, too.
Unaware, the demon your soul did take.
The cold, eroding bones are inside you.
Ash grey fuse angrily throws orange sparks,
The why of it no longer relevant
The pain no longer to slumber in dark.
Pinch it, douse it, the fuse will not relent.
Deeply, you know this can’t go forever.
It will put an end to you, and quite soon.
Search your mind, desperate for the lever,
Disarm the bomb or get blown to the moon.
Loved ones wouldn’t begrudge your departure
If they could feel the burgeoning horror.
Or so you think, blinded by the torture
What they see, somehow not in the mirror.
Bet your quickly ticking life it’s too much
When you are the bomb, so hard to diffuse
Leave the Keep's safety, risk the human touch
This lonely fight you do not have to lose.

I have a game for you. “Why not!” you say.
A beer or six here, a hit or two there,
Many others play this game every day.
A few more and you'll be better than square!
A dance of wild thrills, a dance just for fun,
You can turn and walk if it gets sticky.
Dance all by yourself, dance with anyone.
In time, you don’t bother to be picky.
Don’t flatter me, I know I'm compelling;
The dream I dangle, just out of your reach.
Sniff, sniff. Whiff of putrid scent you're smelling?
Leviathan floundering on the beach.
Pale tales of restraint you have been telling.
Talk all you want, we both know it’s too late.
You’d already bought what I was selling
The first moment you nibbled on the bait.
It's just a trap now, no more scraps of cheese.
Worse to struggle in my steel sleeper hold.
You thought you could leave whenever you pleased,
Tight Chinese finger puzzle for your soul.
Maze of mirrors, the exit eludes you.
Optical illusion you can’t unsee,
Should you get out, crimson game is not through.
It will never end, my trap is in thee.
Can you feel the romance? It feels you too.
You want to touch it, relieve the tension.
One more sweet taste, what’s the worst it could do?
Sucks you back to the zero-th dimension.
Spiritual riddle, your heart breaking.
Soul-murdering beast, and yet you feed it.
A dank, bleak prison of your own making.
What was that something you knew you needed?
Tell your children to avoid me, but I’ve
The sweetest candy, shiniest balloon
I lay in patient wait for them, here’s why:
With stealth, I know they will be mine, and soon.

For my kids, in the hope that they will make better mistakes than I did.

Memories of illogical unreality saunter past my mind,
Planning expectations of a future with no feelings,
Deja vu days multiply with an intensity so unkind,
Happiness is eroded by endless waves of lapping sadness,
I fall weightlessly to the bottom of life's end,
Regrets dashed upon ragged rock thoughts that scream to confess,
My childhood laughter flows tears of wishful pretend,
As I wait helplessly at the back door of destiny,
Sharing Earth with billions I will never meet,
A poet joining lonely words into meanings of complexity,
I wander through imagination hoping to land on my feet.

"A poem to me is the essence of any thought,
Being built from its foundation into tower scraping sky.
It can fly like no other bird to places never seen,
Even spaceships can only dream of taking its place."

though you've always been in constant motion,
you're still a wind-blown cloud, no direction,
will there be an end to this moving on?
do you really have a destination?
yet you still strive and hope to find it here,
although you have to look elsewhere somewhere,
living your cause, wars you've boldly fought out,
who's the hero? who's the villain? you now doubt.
looking at all the storms that you've been through,
at lessons learned and wisdom earned for you,
human justice, peace and prosperity
bloody revolutions cannot guarantee.
I know that it's not me
But the truth hurts inside
I often think that if I saw you
I could see it in your eyes
I'm still having such a hard time
Wrapping my mind around this loss
One way feelings don't mean a damn thing
This hurting pain becomes the cost
I avoid you, yet it's so tough
I'd love to hear you everyday
A voice that brings so much happiness
And puts a smile upon my face
You may claim that it's not you
But I know that it's not me
These feelings held upon my inside
Become a prison you can't see
Yesterday means little: without today
Today means nothing without tomorrow
I try so hard to show my love, but my mind's not strong enough
Cause it's been denied by all my sorrow
So as I'm lying on my pillow
Life's last few breaths upon my hands
Please know my feelings are but memories
And it was you, like it's always been
There's no today without tomorrow........
RETURN
Departing from oneself, rivers escape mountains at SOURCE
The meandering is not only to Sea; meandering home, roots, too ...
By way of the Universal Ocean. Waters blend salty and fresh!
Wired Electric
The dream came on in the light switch in the wires
Behind the walls where ideas run, collide and rise
After the bulb blew out, filament and all
Glass shattered thin, fragmented shards on the floor
Never to illuminate again
The dream moved on to another room of dark
To feel the floor boards blind
Fall in no direction
Day and night are forbidden and wrong
Are the same concepts when you have no eyes
The pretty young girl will have to wait
Stay frozen in time In her red green skirt and yellow scarf
To be undressed in light, to be appreciated
Dreams don’t really see things as they are
Reality is strange when not awake
Between partitions, Light switches work behind the walls
Never go off, electrified just right
Dreams fade away in a pretty spark
Young girl remains though in my thoughts
Mountainous majestic meanderings mixing masterfully
merriment momentarily made monumental mistake
many munched meat, majesty’s masterful melody of melding.
I don't write as deep as others
I sometimes can't find the right words.
But what I write really matters
It's a big pieces of my life, scattered
in one special way or another.
I can sometimes write witty prose
and at times it can be rather silly.
But most of the time
there is something inside
that just needs to get out and be known.
If it seems to come from a dark place
That's because it probably did.
There's a lot in my life
that cuts like a knife
I can revisit, at times I feel safe
I have memories that make me smile
that come pouring up from my heart
I tell them true
when I share them with you
That they don't make me laugh would be a denial
So accept my stories and poetry
as simply a part of my being
I can't change who I am
What you see is what you get
I came from a diverse family tree.
dream meanderings
dancing under
moonlit skies
I came seeking a child that was born a king.
I have strayed, beguiled from my undertaking.
It was a binary star that I chose to follow,
one path leading straight to Him,
but I sought the brighter glow
and became a wondering pilgrim.
My star led me here through circuitous routes,
through pleasurable meanderings
and gratuitous pursuits,
crossing mellowed valleys and honeyed springs.
I have smelled the flower of travellers-joy
and tasted the heady fruits of the vine.
I have eaten and drank till I felt cloy;
sought fun-loving company, avoiding the saturnine.
Questing warmth in the arms of more than one woman,
hypnotized by the charms of their fair sex;
tasting only their sweetness, like a persimmon,
sensing not the puckering in their vortex.
My eyes have feasted on many a sunrise,
and, again, they drank in the satiny sunset.
I have allowed my mind to fantasize,
benumbed by the beauty of that distant vignette.
Life has been a sweet potion to swallow,
but time is running out, I must reach my goal,
pursue the star fast losing its halo
and find the King, I must save my soul.
I’m here now, where is this child?
all I found was a Man Crucified.
As day slowly creeps
Moonlight covers its secrets
In teardrops of dew
The heartless believe
There is no beauty in pain
Or without it
A kindness trembles
Awaiting its moment
Karma or fate
Contrails tell a tale
The sign said “The world will end tomorrow”. It could still be right.
Is life just a problem seeking a solution?
Did Leonardo paint what he saw or what he felt?
How many pins can fit on the head of an angel?
