Best Hold Your Horses Poems
You Steal My Beauty To Heart With Glee
Clear night sky once told me to yield
hold your horses and be quite still
you are but a dot in a dirty brown field
certainly nothing to give others a thrill.
Now go lay in a moonlit cave
head bowed and heart seeking relief
give thanks for what I gave
and seek mercy for you are a thief.
You steal my beauty to heart with glee
yet return not praise and glory my way
yes, you love deep what you see
but fail to ever give me proper pay.
What could I say facing such true accusations?
I simply bowed my head and gave sincere salutations.
R.J. Lindley
Spring, 1971
Note- From my private journal. Written two years after my father's death.
I often wandered out into that barren brown field late at night to gaze at the vastness of the universe and ask why he was taken from me...
Soon with no satisfactory answer, I turned to hating the world with vengeance in my heart that continued for 18 long and painful years ..
Gems Grandmother Gifts From Her Golden Word-Loom
Gems grandmother gifts from her golden word-loom
Hold those fast horses and keep clean your own room
If you work, be sure to fill your hungry tanks
If you are grateful, you have just me to thank
I wash your dirty laundry and cook your meals
Sell our extra eggs just to pay the high bills
Careful, watch your step, pains are great from deep falls
Color outside, do not mark on my clean walls
Think hard before you leap, doctors are not cheap
If you are playing for love, best play for keep
If you work real hard, you get money for town
Here we do not pay for you being a clown
We raise our chickens, goats, pigs and corn to eat
Know keeping this place afloat is quite a feat
Now go on, do your chores and we will be fine
Breakfast at six, come too late you do not dine
We do not burn our candles too late at night
Do not anger me, it's not a pretty sight
Enjoy the sun, God placed it there just for you
If you think me too hard, best you get a clue
Now hold your horses, God did not give me wings
I see you happy, my heart races and sings
Stop complaining, today is Sunday and clear
Now wash your hair and clean good behind each ear
No child, not everything I say is funny
What, you think we are rich and made of money
Dear child, listen to granny she tells you true
Even when mad, I love every one of you
So remember well your granny when she dies
Treasure each moment, you know how fast time flies
Now child heed well my wise words when you are grown
You reap no rich harvest if bad seeds are sown!

Two hearts, Two Lives, An Eternal Meld
Hold your horses, those waters arent so deep
far, far more to life that eating and sleep.
Roses gleaming, dawn's beckoning new frosts
things you'd defend at any and all costs.
Picnicking, lakeside with your true soulmate
times you won, while so sorely tempting Fate!
Living to discover love, its treasures
path taken, with life's sweet, simpler pleasures.
Now gaze back at nights of hottest romance
with future lives planned, nothing left to chance.
Magnificent joy, two loving gems held
with two hearts, two lives, an eternal meld.

Literature is dead
so say talking heads
Done in by new technology
with an assist from eschatology
Whoa, Nellie! Hold your horses here
Illiteracy’s been wiped out
More folks read than ever before
~ it’s literature that’s burnt out
My very best friend is a lesbian,
not bisexual, she is not at all attracted to men.
There is nothing butch about her, she is absolutely stunning.
When I look at her I often wish that I was a lesbian,
but our friendship is built on the foundation,
of us always verbally abusing each other more times than none.
When we first met, picking her up was my intention,
before I discovered she was a lesbian.
"Listen pretty boy," she said to me,
"I think you're a great guy but not at all for me.
I know that you'll find someone one day
who will make you very happy,
but this is never going to happen sweetie. It's not you, it's me."
"Whoa! Hold your horses there Annie Oakley,
did you just "It's not you, it's me," to me?!
Let me tell you something my little curious honey,
I created "It's not you, it's me," so please,
don't even try to feed me lies about being a lesbian to me.
You wouldn't believe how many times,
women feed me that tired old "I'm a lesbian" lie,
I average about a dozen of those women every week at the very least,
just be honest with me, just answer me truthfully,
what did I do wrong, why am I not your kind of guy?"
She gave me a pity kiss, and then told me this,
"I'm not attracted to you because your genitals are on the outside,
I Am Not Attracted To Men! I AM A Lesbian!
IT REALLY ISN'T YOU, IT'S I!..
"Well, can I call you," I asked, "and keep giving it a shot?"
Anguished, she grabbed me by my collar, her temper raging hot,
then smiled and winked at me and said, "Sure, why not."
.. and ever since then we have been the best of friends,
verbally abusing the hell out of each other over and over again,
but whenever a crisis in my life does occur,
I honestly don't know what I would do without her.
I'll be talking more about my lesbian friend,
every so often, now and again.

Defined By Idioms
Naked truth, bent nails
dead men tell no tales
bad Apple, broken mirrors
burnt out light bulbs, crocodile tears
spilt milk, goose chase
two cents worth, rat race
rotten egg, bad to the bone
eagle eye, no place like home.
bat from hell,
pulled punch
big cheese,
no free lunch
can of worms, bleeding heart
knock on wood,
till death do us part
bite the bullet, checkered past
good as gold,
last laugh
burning bridges,
ball of wax
hold your horses start from scratch
wooden nickels ace up your sleeve
hair of the dog
all Greek to me
axe to grind
behind the eight ball
bigger they are
the harder they fall
jack of all trades cat's got your tongue
fair weathered friend
like father like son
small world
on thin ice
speak of the Devil roll of the dice
blood's thicker than water
lie like a rug
dime a dozen
when push comes to shove
dog eared pages
eye for an eye
bury the hatchet how time flies clean as a whistle C
chew the fat
crime doesn't pay. cover my ass
throw me under the bus gentle as a lamb
cold shoulder
hit the fan
buyer beware
woman's work never done
never say never
takes one to know one
come Hell or high water
pissing in the wind
pretty as a picture through thick and thin
beat a dead horse pass the buck
whole nine yards down on my luck
life’s a
don't rock boat
needless to say
go for broke
My life is the sum of trite cliches
Jaded expressions
so worthless so worn
I couldn't give it away
“Hey, when is my turn?”
asks the horse.
“Hold your horses,”
says the plastic surgeon,
“while I give the duck
a quick nip and tuck.”
Please keep your language clean
i don't say those kinds of things
I am not that kind of girl
keep waiting for my sister Alexa
in a future generation
Sooner or later
she will be coming

I.
Hold your horses just for a minute
Awaken from a sleep, seems so infinite
Look around you, seek beyond what your eyes' limit
Take the chance to meditate - Quiescence, offer it.
II.
Arose bountiful crimes diverged - evolved
Forgiveness - Generous hearts initiation
Jailed kindness lulled, Music now on play
Quiet, realize, STOP, think
Understand vagues, work out excemptions, yawning ZOMBIE?
III.
Look, listen, love, learn lots
Find for forgiveness, for freedom - FORGIVE
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....
STOP such second - SOUL'S SILENCE.

In school there was this guy named Terry and he was always getting body art
Everybody was talking about it and jealous and wanted to look like his body parts
they said "Isn't he cool, watch the girls look at him and drool"
he's so buffed and so good looking and they think he's so cool
wonder why he looks like that and nobody else does
he seems like a loner, he just hangs out with girls with his peach fuzz
They say he has a brother, wonder what he looks like
I've only heard that he's bigger and get's him into a fight
Whose idea is this body art anyway?
without knowing the family I can't really say
So he started talking with the kid so he could stay
after school and later go home with him
maybe come in early and workout the gym
so I went to his house and his brother was the same way
They had sleeves of body art, they were nice
They were not scary or different, they were right
so I was thinking like "What's the big deal"
so they're different so can't we get real
He's nice man and he won't hurt you
He's got a great brother and he's cool too
If people just got him from the start
They wouldn't be so afraid like after the dark
So I'm the only one that knows for sure
that he's so innocent, he's just different there's no cure
needed for this guy, he won't hurt you or bite
if you just talk to him like a person you just might
figure it out and not be mad at him without
giving him a chance or a shout
you'd be friends with him too no doubt
you'll realize there was "no big deal"
just because they thought of it for real
Hold your horses down
don't be a clown
you can have nerves of steel
cause it's no big deal
Look at olé Manny over there.
He's been praying for grown back hair.
Hair back
Back hair
Hair is neither here nigh under where.
At night we pray for tight'ee whites;
Following morning awaken by a huge wedgie wearing panties.
Shake it off and tone it down.
Take it easy now, now.
Hold your horses there pray full man.
Eating tiger sporting a lions mane feeding heads.
I said, I see I said, I taw a pudgy fat hippy cat rocking dreads.
Looking like a praying mantis crossed with a giraffe.
Bitting your toungue, covering your mouth; trying not to laugh,
You see poor olé Manny with a blank look of dismay.
Holding tightly onto his toupee on another windy day.
Even today, he continues to pray as he slumps in his chair.
And people just don't understand why because Manny is amazing with or without grown back hair.

I think it is a deliberate, food production play
To cut the people short, you don’t get for what you pay
Go to your food store and pull something out to count
Just to see, if you get the right amount

'Oh do move on, Summer - it's time for a change
I've so many seasonal chores to arrange!
Whilst you, my dear sister can laze in the sun,
For me there are serious tasks to be done.
I have to ensure that the hedgehogs remember
To stock up on food at the start of September.
Then trigger celestial cues as causation
For swallows' onset of long distance migration.
Blithe, frolicking squirrels must forfeit their play
To stash bereted nuts for the next rainy day.
And whilst I remember, the trees need a shake;
A gentle reminder their leaves to forsake.
A new coat of paint is applied in a rush
And a kiss from my lips makes the blackberries blush.
I’ll crisp up the air and leave everything stark,
Ensuring that nippy Jack Frost makes his mark.
And tickle the prickles of sweet chestnut shells
Till, sides split with laughter, their treasure expels.
And last but not least, I've the pumpkins to swell
And harvest to gather, folk's hunger to quell.'
'Now please hold your horses, dear brother of mine.
Just take a deep breath and then all will be fine.
One thing you've left out in this frenzied oration;
We all play a role in the Master's creation.
So let’s work together and less of your squall,
Just maybe that’s why pride is linked to a fall!!'

House to house
A passing, admiring scent
Hold me...we'll pass
House to house
You are still apart of me
Hold your horses
Fight the tears
Wipe them away until everything
Clears
House to house
Passing by torment
Do you know the hint?
When time runs out
I wait till some sun
Peaks in this forbidden forest
Tormented by breaking summers
Drenched...on no one's side
Just stay near...beside...abide
We'll stay house to house
Excited by curiosity
There will be a house for us
At last
A key to joy
Let us go...explore this terrain
We'll have a roof
To push aside the rain
To clear our years away
We are definitely here to stay
House to house
Torment to joy
We are invited
To stay here forever
At last
Without no guilt
There is no way
That I'm moving
No more
This desire
Ruins me to the core
I'm sure
At last
With my lady friend
And began to tend
Our wanted life
Without
Passing
House to house
Dealing with passing
To and fro by searching
House to house
At last!
