The Council of My Motherland

Strike the masses, with hopes in prose
To earn their trust, and thumbs in folds

Kneel to the masses, to be put to council
Chosen by the masses, to be their council

Steal the masses’ offering, when put in council
To flee their own, only from hassle

To thee the council of the motherland
Why do you cause pain bitter than labour
Poverty strikes masses like thunder
Indigenes molested like prisoners
Strangled by the strings of hunger
Whiles awaiting your promise to better the land

To the mighty above, they are left to pray
To sustain them without a pay
For the day the fire shall turn red
The evergreen’s scalp shall turn bald

Council Girl Waster

Knocking on the door, can your mate come out to play?,
or is she grounded for yet another sunny day?.
Meeting up with your mates, hanging around the park,
getting up to no good, until way after dark.

Listening to music, all night party's, having a dance,
Fitti over there giving me a glance.
he was 16, i weren't a teenager yet,
oh yes my dad would hate him, you can bet on that.

Then me mum mug's me off, 'Max get down the shop'
'all this mucking around girl, it's gonna blimmin' stop!'
Shut away in my room, put on me headphones,
bit of Shalamar? maybe some Stones?.

Sharing a bedroom with 3 boys was proper manic,
everything of mine broken, me mum in a panic.
Tower block by the Thames, 2 bedroom flat,
not enough room to swing a skinny cat.

Dad was a car crusher, worked every hour god sent,
put food on the table, no money was ever lent.
mum was too proud, to sign on the dole,
working class family, full of heart and plenty of soul.

School was fun, all me mates were there,
but instead of learning, I would just sit and stare.
Dolly daydreamer by name, scatty ann by nature,
destined to be nothing but a council girl waster.

Jeffery Snerd Runs For the City Council

Jeffery Snerd Runs for City Council

By Elton Camp

No doubt, of him you must have heard
The candidate’s name is Jeffery Snerd
He has lived in this State all of his life
And he has a local woman as his wife

Of children, they have produced four
Ten grandchildren and expecting more
Jeff goes to church two times a week
When he sees you, he’ll always speak

Earns his living at the auto parts store
He has never run for any office before
But freedom from the least selfish greed
Is the only qualification that he does need

He is a perfect model of civic pride
By all the laws he’ll faithfully abide
Jeff never had even a hint of scandal
There isn’t anything he can’t handle

When to the city council he does rate,
Snerd will bring new jobs to the state
Federal spending he will get in check
And give President Obama the heck

Nancy Pelosi he will drive away
She will have naught more to say
To abortion he will bring an end
If you will make Jeff your friend

Illegal immigration he will stop
Back to Mexico they all will hop
Osama Bin Laden he will grab
And other terrorists quickly nab

Jeff will lower taxes right away
Public trust he will never betray
Foreign aid need not be sought
Since his vote can’t be bought

Foreign leaders he will soon tell
Very politely, “You can go to hell.”
With paying high taxes we are thru
Agreements with you won’t renew

It will be so much to Jeff’s praise
Politicians will get no more raise
Your tax burden he’ll quickly slice
For it, you won’t have to ask twice

That he’s best, here’s a reason why
Never in his life has Jeff told a lie
And such an excellent person as he
Standing for office you seldom see

Besides, it you take a close look
His opponent is little but a crook
His first wife had to get a divorce
Cause he beat her so bad, of course

And other people, I have heard tell,
Know he is a most wicked infidel
All are aware that he is a sorry fink
A sot, he loves evil liquor to drink

Jeffery Snerd is the man of the hour
Solve our problems. Put him in power
For this virtuous man of such great note
Please contribute and give him your vote

White Elephants

I’m sure ratepayers everywhere
Are aware of the many dangers
Of the cronyism to be found
At their local Council chambers

They build useless monuments
That will never make a buck
For vanity projects of all kinds
To feed egos run amok

All paid for by the taxpayer
Whilst roads and water are forgot
Common sense does not apply
To spend the rates financial pot

Management consultants say
‘Busloads of tourists will come to see’
But they’ve just made the numbers up
And charged outrageous fees

Ratepayers object but are ignored
We are unsophisticated swine
The council knows much better
How to spend your rates and mine

Behind the scenes you can be sure
Handshake deals are being made
Strings are being pulled
And backhanders being paid

Touted as the next big thing
But a hopeless waste of dough
When it fails the ratepayers cry
…………… ‘I bloody told you so!’

Premium Member Heaken To My Council

I have said it once
Now will i say it twice
Not anymore
Not trice
For she won't listen
To my advice

She lives all her life
Bowing to images
And worshiping all the vanities

Thinking she is blessed
And will go to heaven
Now she perishes like a chicken
And she is soon forgotten

I will live a free man
Than to live a slave
For the beauty of the sea
Is it wave

The beauty of man
Is to live a free man
A good seed
Bears a good fruits
And a good water
Runs in a good fluids

Blessed Is He Who Walks Not In the Council of the Ungodly

Blessed is he, who walks not in the
 counsel of the ungodly.
Nor seeks counsel in their
 "wisdom" or folly.

Blessed is he, that doesn't stand
in the way of sinners too.
Nor takes part in the things
 that scorners do.

Blessed is he, who deilghts in
obeying God's commands.
He is attentive to his voice,
 and understands.

Blessed is he, who meditates
on HIS word day and night.
It's the truth of his word,
which gives him delight!

He shall be like a tree planted by
 the streams of water.
Though the fiery trials of life
 seem to get hotter.

He shall bear God's
 fruit in due season.
His love for him is the reason.

When trouble comes his way...
he shall not wither.
God will protect him...
 as a believer!

In all that he does...
his life will be blessed!
In Christ.... he'll find peace
 and a haven of rest...

Blessed is he who is rooted
and grounded in HIM.
Who seek HIS ways and
call God friend.

Blessed are YOU ...
very much indeed!
Jesus is here now...
and he's all you'll ever need!

The exoplanet council's having a pow-wow
Where are those amateur astronomers now

We've lost track of their telescopes
Have all those earthlings given up hope

Optimistic that our lifeforms will soon be discovered
Guess we'll have to wait 'til folks down there recover

The elders, scribes, met in Jerusalem
With Caiaphas and Annas, priests as well.
When Peter, John arrived, were asked to tell
The power used or name declared by them,

Then Peter, with the Holy Spirit filled,
Said, “If we are to be examined here,
The means by which this man was healed are clear:
The name of Jesus Christ, the man you killed.”

This Jesus is the stone that was refused;
He is the one whom God raised from the dead.
Salvation comes through no other name said,
So let’s be clear, let no one be confused.

Now, when they saw the boldness of these two,
These common and uneducated men,
Astonishment arose among them then,
These followers of Christ, the man they slew.

The priests in private met, “A much famed sign
Was clearly seen; this cannot be denied.
So that the news does not spread far and wide,
We’ll threaten them: that they must now decline

To further speak to any in this name.”
And so they called them in, gave stern advice:
You are enjoined; don’t use the name of Christ
To teach, to heal, or otherwise inflame.”

“We find your judgment borders on absurd:
Obeying you, not listening to God.
But even if you find our reason flawed,
Still, we must speak of what we’ve seen and heard.”

The crowd, on hearing, lifted shouts of praise;
The two, released, went boldly on their way.

(from Acts 4)

(This one was a bit of a slugfest. The rhyme for the stanzas is abba, with a concluding couplet. Some come easier than others; this was not one of those.)

Set Up a Council

There is something about a suicide bombing
That to me is quite alarming
What really was their actual intent?
And also message they may have meant.

Both killing as well as bodily harm
Has the whole world up in alarm
What will we all have to do next?
This is my message I had sent by text.

All of our blood is running thin
When you keep doing it again and again
To NATO and SEATO we should stampede
And set up a council to fulfill this need.

Council Girl

a lost girl arranges in her room
               her dress with stillness,
               she pushes her tongue
               against small kitten teeth,

outside the lift groans and bangs,
               lights burn shapes
               of flats and stairs;

this is a place to circle in;
               to return to,
               never to leave

she is sediment, a line of ash,
              a failed escapee

Some men came down from Judea.
They were teaching all the brothers,
Unless you are first circumcised,
You neither can nor will be saved.

They were teaching all the brothers.
So Paul and Barnabas went up.
You cannot and will not be saved?
This was the question that they posed.

So Paul and Barnabas went up.
They declared all that God had done.
This was the question that they posed:
Must all converts be circumcised?

They declared all that God had done.
In light of all that we have seen,
Must all converts be circumcised?
God shows no partiality.

In light of all that we have seen,
Surely we will levy no more?
God shows no partiality;
He has not made a distinction.

Surely we will levy no more?
We could not bear this yoke on us.
He has not made a distinction;
Will we then place it on their necks?

We could not bear this yoke on us.
We will be saved through grace alone.
Will we then place it on their necks?
They will be saved through grace likewise.

We will be saved through grace alone.
The prophets are in agreement;
They will be saved through grace likewise.
Therefore, we should not trouble them.

The prophets are in agreement:
Just as a remnant will seek Him,
Therefore, we should not trouble them,
Gentiles will call on Him as well.

(From Acts 15)

----------

I guess this is an "imperfect pantoum", given that the last stanza just continues the pattern of the previous. I tried using the 1, 3 lines from stanza 1, but it just made no sense.

I'm also unsure whether this is a terribly good use of this form, but you don't know until you try! I think perhaps introducing some rhyme would help make it feel more like a poem and less like a stuttering storyteller to me...

Feedback/thoughts welcome! I need to go read a number of these that others have written and glean some ideas from them.
