Best Afternoon Poems
The rain set me adrift inside a dream
My mind was on a painting miles upstream
An unforgotten "en plein" I once viewed
A light pastoral springtime interlude
Two horses, one snow white, one shiny black
Two barefoot boys in blue jeans ride bareback
Through pasture weeds bloomed orange almost red
White fluffy mountains loomed as thunderheads
A lightning bolt sends thunder through gray skies
The vivid colors blend in teary eyes
One brother's love becomes a blurry stain
Through windows streaked with rivulets of rain
From inside looking out my hourglass
I watched as nature painted winter's grass
Entranced from listening to her rhythmic rune
One April watercolor afternoon
by Daniel turner
The incendiary wick
of a lemon afternoon
flickers in the lime lagoon
as sunset breathes fire,
tangerine scorching
lilting melon waters
until incandescence
drowns in dusk's indigo
and coconut hills rise
to cerulean shadows,
when night whispers
in plantain lanterns
swaying in the slender trees.
magnificent sky
captivated by beauty -
as cherry blossoms

It was one lazy afternoon
laying in the hammock
under the azure sky
sheltered from the blistering sun
by the canopy of the old oak tree
chru chru chru
warbles from the Bluebird
can be heard
as she calls for her mate
Closing my eyes
I soar, I soar so high
above the tallest branch
floating free
gliding in the wind
travelling towards the perfumed breezes of pansy fields
watching their velveteen petals sway
like her hips when she dances in the stream
watching their alluring moves
attracting the pollinator
with seducing aromas
Almost tasting the sweetened nectar
soft and smooth like her honeycombed hair
pleasing like her sun-kissed skin
which keeps taunting my dreams
with ephimeral wishes
of untamed adventures
with her.
her sunlight shaded with clouds
burning love shuttered in pain.
rainfalls pour down on her feet
black widow spits in demon's face.
broken mirror hangs in the wall
she sees face dirty and old.
pulling down tears one by one
rinse the wound caused by his hands.
she caves underground to feel the darkness
composed herself while brokenhearted.
wait for the morning to witness the sunlight
free her mind to feel the long lost love.
fiercefully, she ran through the door
no regrets, left her home alone.
blue and purple paintings on skin
have gone when she dance in the rain.
Dozing
on a cream-colored comforter
I care not
for a cacophony
of color
cloistered
near my ear
but vague vestiges
of vanilla whispers
melting
in an ivory bowl

Rain sneaking softly
First soft winds then a cold chill
Clouds cry lovely tears

Here in warm sunshine I sit,
near by a beautiful lake.
Many birds in the tree like to flit.
Long lush branches the breeze likes to shake.
Pretty birds all around call twit-twit -
Sweetness of which I partake!
Spotting some boats off a way
dotting the lake, happily
I have put down my pen as a jay
swoops on by. That is when I first see
shadows creeping have dimmed my noon day.
Sunlight, as always, must flee.

Upon the roof, outside the walls,
now tapping soft its whispered calls,
aftertaste of pain,
this afternoon rain,
like a fading afterthought, falls.
My path’s uninterrupted as I float near the ground
Passing through the colors of rainbows that surround
My song is softly playing in the breeze of the wind
I encircle a fountain and turn back again
Drifting effortlessly through the wild
Dragonflies meet me with grace and style
Drinking in the most beautiful of scenes
Shining glory in shades of blue and green
My vision’s filled with spirit, there is no strife
I travel magically with the speed of life
Wheat fields like the ocean they wave
I flash a smile and continue on my way
Hovering and bathing in the essence of delight
I am a Hummingbird on my afternoon flight

Snow White took an unladylike bite
of a big red apple polished bright
she snoozed quite a while
he kissed her with guile
and they shared an afternoon delight
late afternoon
reading white ink blotches
in the sky

Rambunctious rainstorms
Laugh – dance with rock and roll sun ~
Promise of rainbows.
Sunrise bursting out
In bright shafts – hues of orange ~
Bright eyed wake up call.
Brilliant yellow rays
Run across the morning sky ~
Golden amethyst.
Peaceful blue - serene -
Sapphire skies deep as oceans ~
Wadding in their depths.
Lush fields of green nap
Refreshed by rains after noon ~
Emeralds flashing.
Sunset fire burning
Fiery plumes of red and rose ~
A neon light show.
Paper thin moonlight
Fragile - delicate embrace ~
Luminescent pearl.
Deep purple shadows
Softly whisper through midnight ~
Lullaby – Good Night.
The blaze is on the blooms, the windows are glazed,
Red berries are ripening, in the new sunshine phase,
Emerald is on the wood, but vivid day is lost in light,
Lazy clouds float on the blue, amid heaven's delight.
The golden glare is everywhere, this early afternoon,
The day is in a heatwave, a sparkle is on the lagoon.
Bright magenta's on the bush, butterflies are flitting,
Evening whispers softly, but as yet, no one's listening.
All is quiet
The room is still
I hear this tapping on my window sill
I look out and there you are
My dashing knight
On your white horse
