Premium Member Just Doing the Math

If each US citizen was required to take full responsibility for the financial mismanagement of our former elected leadership, each American would owe approximately:

$36.2 trillion (US Dept 2025) / 346 million (current US population)

 EQUALS

 ONE MILLION DOLLARS EACH!!!

What!? My math must be wrong!
Ugh, I do believe in fact that it may just be ONLY
About $100,000 each. Only.
That's still more than the average American
Can afford, I do believe.
I certainly don't have that kind of clout
Or spare change lying around and about.

Premium Member boxes are for burning

We get approximately three boxes a day in deliveries
My husband is the ultimate order-machine
He takes more stuff back than most people order
I am sure UPS knows his name now

These boxes stack up on couches, the back of a bookshelf,
Beds, chairs, tables, and other not-for-boxes-places
When I get tired of them, I burn them in a huge bonfire
I love this part of the boxes the best, thus I encourage these orders.

Premium Member Wailing for her Demon Lover

I used to just paint and not worry about my dogs
Who were running crazily up and down our road
Because I thought it was a slow country lane
I had no idea until one of them dug under the neighbor’s fence
That this road is used by approximately nineteen trucks an hour.
Where are they going? This road leads to two dead ends.
I have no idea, but now that I know, my work is just beginning.
I have to figure out how to keep my dogs in a pen.
Two dogs who have been running loose all of their lives.
This has been a really difficult week for me.
Today it rained, and I thought maybe things would get worse.
They are about the same. How to keep them in?
It would help if the neighbors had spayed their female dog
She is over there wailing for her demon lover, and my dogs want to help.

Who's watching over me?

As the sun set, I wander around to find a place to sleep for the night,
clear dark skies allow me to see the different lights that follows me
It look as though they are the astrology constellations in the sky, but I
only can make out Cancer (Y). I don't believe in stars. Hoping this is my protection as I sleep in this cold unsafe world of hate and war. Lights in different formations, while flashing of green and red of the drones follow
the lights; watching the lights watch me.

I notice drones everywhere I am during the sunset through early sunrise;
can be frightening at times. Being alone all of my time makes me feel like a project of some kind. Watched by what/who is the question. Distances approximately 30-50 feet high. Living alone they always came around the outside of my home at late night hours. I would always hear the hovering of
the buzzing winged propellers outside my bedroom windows. Then I could of thought stalker, but what about now, I'm homeless.

I'm really concern, but no one to get answers from unfortunately.
Surveillance or protection?

I nearly hanged, it was my fate
In seventeen eighty nine
I had stolen an old fur tippet
And claimed that it was mine

They put me into prison
Then sent me to be tried
The verdict came back guilty
and many tears I cried

But through the grace of mad King George
came a welcome dispensation
My sentence was commuted
and I was handed transportation

The journey was horrendous.
Eleven months or more.
Till we landed in Australia
That far and distant shore

And what this place has given me
When all is rendered down
Is a life I never would have had
In the slums of London Town.

				sincerely, yours, Mary Wade

Transportation of convicts to Australia began in 1787 and continued until 1868. During this time, approximately 163,000 convicts were transported on 825 ships

Premium Member Congratulations Miss Joyce Faure

Well Soupers, PoetrySoup has produced its second anthology. For those who submitted poems for consideration, we want to thank you for the wonderful submissions. We wish we could have included all of your works.

This anthology, PS: It's Still Poetry, is a much larger volume than the first publication. We received thousands of poems for consideration. In fact, we were a bit overwhelmed by the submissions. There are over 42,000 poet members of PoetrySoup. Approximately 4600 poets are regularly active on PoetrySoup. Of these 4600 poets, only about 11% were selected for inclusion in this anthology (see the names). For one Miss Joyce Faure
We believe this anthology is even better than the first. We are privileged to promote the works of PoetrySoup members across the world. Thank you, Soupe

Premium Member Rehashing History: the Model and the Master

Giovanni didn't trust Michelangelo,
He'd heard that for guys he was hot.
But for minimum pay of a florin* a day,
He was willing to give it a shot.
As soon as they started the session,
Gio's senses said something was wrong.
Mickey couldn't decide how to pose him--
Wearing armor, a toga, a thong?
This went on for a while, and then with a smile
The master casually said to the dude,
"Please don't think me a jerk,
But to get this to work,
I must have you totally nude."
Avoiding eye contact, Gio peeked at his contract,
Then took a deep breath and replied,
"Si, but with the insistence that you keep your distance,
And another five florins besides."

And that's the way the story goes,
I've repeated it word for word,
How the most famous statue in all of the world,
The one that's called "David" occurred.

*Author's note: The florin, ducat, and lire were common currencies during Michelangelo's time. A florin, according to one source, was worth 2 crowns, approximately $26.00 today. I could not find the name of the model who posed for this sculpture nor how much he was paid. I doubt seriously if M. paid his models in florins, but I like the alliterations.

Human Toxicity

After injection, inhalation,or ingestion, the first symptoms to appear are muscle spasms. They appear very quickly after inhalation or injection within as few as five minutes and take somewhat longer to manifest after ingestion, typically approximately 15 minutes. With a high dose, the onset of respiratory failure and brain death can occur in 15 to 30 minutes. If a lower dose is ingested, other symptoms begin to develop, including seizures, cramping, stiffness, agitation and hypervigilance.Seizures caused by poisoning can start as early as 15 minutes after exposure and last 12–24 hours. They are often other adverse symptoms, including hyperthermia, rhabdomyolysis, myoglobinuric, kidney failure, metabolic acidosis, and respiratory acidosis. As poisoning progresses, tachycardia(rapid heart beat),hypertension(high blood pressure),tachypnea(rapid breathing), cyanosis(blue discoloration),diaphoresis(sweating),water-electrolyte imbalance, leukocytosis(high number of white blood cells),trismus(lockjaw),risus sardonicus (spasm of the facial muscles),and opisthotonus(dramatic spasm of the back muscles, causing arching of the back and neck)can occur.

Bags packed, emotions high, vows said I do
Commenced on marvelous honeymoon day
My love now owned my life, isn't it true
Vows made to him, promised never to stray

Commitment to follow where he would go
In my heart, God also knew, my love grew
Husband dear, mate for life, my earthly beau.
Jesus my Redeemer, who brought my breakthrough

My eternal love, I'll follow in spirit.
Earthly love whose spiced scent I follow
Whose right arm has lifted me when near it
Can't go with me or I him through the hollow

Those vows exchanged until death do us part
In our future life, we'll have a perfect heart

Nowhere and What Is Between

I once had a job where I worked away

So I had to commute travel from
Johannesburg to Kimberly

From Monday morning to till Friday
afternoon

Now Kimberly is approximately
400 plus kilometers from Johannesburg

And the only thing in between is 4 very
small 1 horse town's

Again all approximately 90 odd
kilometers apart

With nothing in between but scrub
and barren bush as far as the eye
can see

But once when driving on my way
this I seen

A 1 single solitary man simply just
a out walking along the roadside
seemingly without a care not
actively or outwardly despondent

And all it left me journeying forth
upon my way with this though as
the next town even for me in my car
was a fare old way away

Was where on earth did he come from
and where on earth was he going on
this baking hot summer's day

Because on foot as he was it wasn't
so much a case of minutes but hours

He had yet still to journey forth in
front of him never mind the hours
behind him that he had already taken
him

In order to get to the middle of
nowhere

Better In Memory

Orange! What a fun color for a house, orange. I cannot name many others so daring.
Palm trees lines the driveway as our RV rumbled in, my cousins and I staring,
At our grandparent’s Florida house, the best part of the year,
It’s short, squat, perfect, and the ocean very near.
The backyard is a plot of sand, a hammock guards the corner,
I was approximately thirteen, maybe a little older,
When they said Gma and Papa had moved to a new house down the street,
The house is tall with spiraling staircases; it’s clean and white and neat.
Now when we fly into town we pass the orange house on our way to the white,
I can’t help but do a double take, it really is a sight.
The orange is dull and faded, the green more prominent instead,
As the winding plants and palm trees start to hide, they slowly start to spread,
The backyard is a patch of beige, tumbled with weeds,
No sign of life or purple treasure chests we used to play hide-and-seek.
