Thought I better get round to writing a bit about myself.

I'm married and live on the Isle of Man

My poetry journey began in November 2013 after my husband was diagnosed with cancer. The first poem I wrote was called was Splendid Isolation. This was written after we returned to the Isle of Man after his surgery in England. I felt so alone and vulnerable in the accommodation - all I really needed was someone to talk to face to face and maybe have a hug! I posted a few poems on a friends facebook page - mainly humerous poems . An on-line friend Jenny Brewer saw my poems and kept telling me to join here. It took about 3 weeks of her asking me if i had joined to pluck up the courage to finally post and 'Just Desserts' was the first poem I posted here - it is based on a true experience! Since then my life has been a whirl. In Jared Pickett's collaboration I teamed up with Darren Watson and we wrote together collaboratively as JaDazzle United.

I adore penguins - the animals not the biscuits!
Loveeeee tall men with greying hair
I love baking/cooking
I like to potter in the garden - need more time to commit to it but have an aged mother who needs me more than my garden does
Adore most types of music - will give anything a listen
Best ever gig - Knebworth 1986 when 'Queen' headlined

DONT START CHEERING YET ..... I'M NOT LEAVING SOUP!

I posted a poem today called 'Music to die for'

Having had the daunting task of organising my father's funeral and having NO idea of the music he would have wanted. We had discussed certain things he wanted but not even thought about the music - then it was too late....

It has made me think of my own mortality and what songs I will want and how to make the process easier for my family when the time comes. My husband and I didn't hadn't even made wills until his cancer was diagnosed in 2014 - I guess it was something we put off, but trying to deal with the legal nightmare my father has left us makes me realise how important it is to tie up the loose ends whilst we are still around.

The song 'Time to Say Goodbye' is by Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli and is one of my chosen songs

Oh James I do hope your mum makes a speedy recovery sounds like she is very determined! Have to admit it wasn't until dad's death in February did I realise what a daunting task organising a funeral is and I want to make it easy for my family when my time comes - not a topic we talk about and I am so glad the blog has been well received-)

Oh, Jan, you sure got me with the title of this blog. Thank goodness you aren't leaving HERE...or spreading your wings for the HEREAFTER! ;) This is so culturally conditioned. In these parts we don't talk about death or wills or funerals plans. It's like tempting fate...very taboo. Dad is turning 80 in March and is talking about making a will, and it's so hard to take. I want my Dad....not possessions. When Mamma died, it was really hard for us to come up with the funeral arrangements, but I'm sure she would have loved the service. She was so well loved and so many people came. "It is Well with my Soul." was the hymn we sang...Must say for the longest time it would choke me up.

Oh Sweetie....my brother and I read poems. I'd written one for her entitled, Sunshine. That's what people called her. My brothers also read something. They both write as well. She always believed in us. I know what you mean....I just wanted to read it well so that it would touch people's hearts. My heart goes out to you....we never forget....

We had put off making a will until Bob got cancer BUT I am so glad we have done it - dad died in February and has left us a legal nightmare with his wills and the stress on the family is terrible. I had to have 'I'll walk with god' playing at home before the funeral as it always brings me to tears and I wanted to be strong on the day - reading my poem 'the crying candle' was the hardest part for me:-( hugs Jan xx

I guess I would like Celine Dion....FLY...in French and English....A friend shared it with me. Celine wrote it when her niece died of an illness. I remember listening to it in French and just sobbing because the words fit so well with my Mom's struggle with MS. It has been translated to English, but....it just doesn't have the same depth. a close friend's husband died young, he was a Dean Martin fan, so she had played all his favourites including the one how do you like your eggs for breakfast, or similar name. Made people smile, he would have loved to have seen that... Seren

I gave one of my daughter-in laws a list a few years ago..Time to say goodbye was one on the list, Another was Once Upon a Time in the West by Andre Rieu..a haunting piece..my wife wants Viva Las Vegas..I told her I'd have to think about that..

Those are lovely pieces you have chosen Frederic I particularly love the time to say goodbye piece. It is so much easier if these things have been discussed in advance makes it so less stressful, I had enough on my plate knowing provision would have to be made for mum as she couldn't stay at the house on her own - I didn't realise how much organisation a funeral actually takes too! :-( hugs Jan xx

jan, i love sarah brightman, saw her in concert once and she was fantastic! since she split from lloyd webber she's done a lot of really quite experimental stuff, it's very good...as you know, i love music, and it was partially being inspired by sarah brightman that made me take up singing, though i'd sung from an early age...my funeral song would be 'the survivors' by the pet shop boys, i like the lyrics :)

Thanks for sharing Charlotte - my dad's death has given me a lot to think about and I would hate my son and hubby to go through what I am currently having to deal with - so if I can sort it all out before I 'depart' that would be a great comfort. I've actually heard it recently at a funeral, but it so fitted his personality so well it was very appropriate. He got one last laugh in so to speak.

Believe it or not I have a play list for my funeral. I intend to cut a cd to be played during my funeral. My selections range from classic rock to hard rock, I do not want my friends to sit through elevator music. Course my friends are mostly leather clad hooligans, lol.
