The odd sock Poetry Contest Sponsored by Natasha L Scragg 04/07/24

Once we were a matching pair, some days we’d get downbeat as we both couldn't abide the stench of sweaty cheesy feet! Our male owner would pop us in the washing machine with warm soapy suds we’d soon smell fresh and clean But now my ‘sole mate’ has gone missing and I am bereft I was worn on the right foot, and he was worn on the left Our owner removed the washing machine gasket then checked the tumble drier and laundry basket Alas my companion is still missing, life just isn’t fair a single sock is useless, and I’m filled with despair So my owner’s sock stock has now been depleted and with my partner gone I’m feeling de-feeted! What use is one sock, maybe one day I’ll be ‘heeled’ if the sock monster’s secret stash is suddenly revealed! So for now I am consigned to the back of a drawer with other odd socks and I'm sure there’ll be lots more!

I have got a drawer that is occupied with socks that have no mate. This one reminds me I need to clean it out because the mates are gone forever. I wonder how a person can lose a sock when they never leave the house. LOL..I really enjoyed your creative talent in this one. It reads like a great contender for the contest(I guess it must be a contest) to me. Way to go. Thanks for sharing it with us. Sara K

Dear Jan, your whimsical poem about the plight of a lone sock is both humorous and relatable. The playful tone and clever wordplay bring to life the frustration and absurdity of losing a sock's mate. I loved how the imagery of the sock's journey from being a matching pair to being relegated to the back of a drawer is poignant and amusing. This is such a delightful piece that brings a smile and a nod of understanding. Blessings, Daniel

Nicely done Jan with some great word plays, apparently odd socks make a great weapon in prison when filled with snooker balls, (I’m not sure if that’s a good thing though) lol! Top one for the contest, cheers David

eek i can imagine the damage done with that weapon in a confined space - sounds like prison isn't the punishment for some if they have games rooms lol:-) hugs Jan xx

ah, the drawer of misfit socks. I enjoyed your personification poem...poor misfit socks. It told of its plight quite well. I liked this line: a single sock is useless, and I’m filled with despair I use my single socks for dusting...so they stopped whining from inside the drawer. I think they're allergic to dust. :-) Best wishes with the contest, hugs, Sara

Dear Jan, this is so amusing, brilliantly written and very clever. I felt quite sorry for the bereft little sock. Awesome word play, flow and rhyme. Love ‘sole mate’ ‘ de-feeted’, heeled’ - genius! A very entertaining read from your skilled pen and I’m sure this will do very well in the contest. It made me smile and chuckle. Loved it. Hugs xx
