Growing old

Once it was a breeze to run and catch a blooming bus
It was the normal thing to do, didn't cause me any fuss
I could walk, and walk could I, until the end of day
But now the little shop close by, is much too far away

I would always love to swim even in the vastest pool
But now I have to paddle, I cannot swim at all
I'd always drop onto my knees, and spring right up again
But me I can't do this no more, it gives me too much pain

I would travel around for miles just to see something
But now too many aches and pains to me such travel brings
Just relaxing in the chair these days is all I want to do
And driving car at night times, this gives me trouble too

Life is getting faster now, I'm in my latter years
Some things I really have to do, they bring me close to tears
I guess I'm getting too old now, that's just the way it goes
I really can't do much at all, because I'm too damn slow

Many of us would be nodding their head in agreement with what you write, Vera! But at least we admit that aging does leave its effects on us; can't run away from reality of life! May we enjoy each day at a time:) Wishing you all the very best! // paul

We ride that same wagon my friend. Youth has flow away, leaving us in the dust behind. Yet all is as it should be for a doorway awaits us that has great promise! Love this smooth and uplifting poem my friend. By the way, I just posted my tribute write to Peter's poem- The Last Journey.. Was a very hard task to measure up, hope I came close.

I'm in the same boat, Vera. I know it gets frustrating. Growing old sucks! You did a good job showing that in your poem! Love, Kim
