An Attitude of Gratitude :) - Just That Archaic Poet's Blog

For me, it is extremely important that I thank my audience for reviewing my work and posting feedback and comments. If someone has taken the time to read, review and
comment on one of my pieces, it’s imperative that they be thanked for their
endeavor. I make sure to thank each and every person who leaves me replies on
my poetry. I think it’s the proper, correct and respectful thing to do. I
cannot begin to fathom not being gracious enough to say, at the very least, “thank you”. I don’t pretend to understand why anyone would not be grateful enough to convey appreciation for the audience taking time to read, review and comment. The idea or prospect of not doing this is utterly lost on me.

I realize and understand a lot of people struggle with time constraints; perhaps someone is unable to say a quick “thanks” at that very moment and maybe it takes a few days to get back to the reviewer. I, myself, due to illness, have been unable to thank someone in a timely manner, but I always go back and state my appreciation at some point, because I feel it is the right thing to do. Even if someone is unable to thank every person
individually, I think it’s important to at least write a quick note on the poem, thanking everyone for commenting in one encompassing post. And if this is somehow inefficient, then I hope it is being accomplished via SoupMail and/or in comments back so someone.

Reading and reviewing is the lifeblood of this site, I think. Without it, The Soup would be very dull, indeed. The point I am making (and I hope my message does not get misconstrued) is that I think it’s important to be gracious, and be verbal about it. It doesn’t take long to say “thanks”. I appreciate people who appreciate their audience. I hope to never lose this sense of gratitude.

I am not picking on anyone; it’s every poet’s prerogative whether or not they feel this is an important aspect and experience of The Soup. I am not assigning blame or guilt or pointing fingers. Just because I believe it is important and imperative does not mandate or require anyone else to follow this example or practice and believe the same thing. It’s just the right thing for me, and I hope it’s also important to many of you out there as
well.

Even though I have done so individually, I want to personally thank every single person who has read and/or reviewed my work. I deeply appreciate it. I hope this blog isn’t perceived as offensive; if you find it to be such, let me apologize well in advance. Thank you for reading.
