Contest Description
What to Submit?
Quick note: the word Junico is actually JUNCO. Sorry about that. And please, no AI!!
Here is the task: You choose from one of my five listed nouns that begin with "Jun" and choose ONLY ONE stanza of the five forms I list below (Note a few exclusions). Then write me a poem that is clever, humorous, and/or beautiful. I love when a poem looks like the author put some amount of thought into writing it. If you do not know a certain word, just look it up. Same goes for poetry forms.
IMPORTANT: The word you choose MUST be your title but it does not have to appear inside the poem. Here are your choices: Juniper(s)/ June Bug/ Junco(s)/ Juneberries/ Juno (from Roman mythology) . I will judge based on how well you follow the rules of the form you choose, your writing expertise (such as proper subject/verb agreement and punctuation when needed) and my personal preference.
Choice of five forms to write one stanza with: Tanka (capitalized lines are a no-no)/ Sijo (you are permitted to capitalize or not)/ Acrostic with a distinct rhyming pattern and first letter of each line is bolded or made to stand out (JUNO excluded from this form)/ Pleiades (also with first letter of each line bolded or made to stand out (June Bug is excluded from this form)/ Limerick (to score well with a limerick, you must use good meter, humor and correctness of the form) I prefer exact rhymes to near rhymes if you write an acrostic or limerick. Let's see what you come up with!
Preparing Your Entry
Submit one copy of your poem online. Format your poem. Please make your entry easy to read — no illustrations or fancy fonts.
English Language
Poems should be in English. Poems translated from other languages are not eligible, unless you wrote both the original poem and the translation.
