Hey Broken Wings... Ian is gone. The reasons are highly complicated and to pinpoint the REAL reason his Soupspace was demolished is hard to say. He mentioned "the one who could not be named." Seems he and TPS had a big disagreement on keeping mum about several things... Ian was unique in his, uh, 'directness' shall I say, in his opinion of Soup administration. He set up a fake account called Shaggy Arthur. Soup closed BOTH accounts. So TPS CAN DETECT FAKE/DOUBLE ACCOUNTS BUT DOES NOT CLOSE THEM. (Disturbing, as those double accounts are usually used for bullying purposes, in MHO) Bev is sick enough of this joint to leave it -- all on her own. Bev was kind enough to post a message to us from Ian, using her account. (that is what may have confused you) Seeker is Tommy Boy ... and there is another mystery member... We having been airing out some issues on this blog from everything of what constitutes being a good community member to is typing "adj;aljdflakdsjfkadf" really a poem (when a 'member' opens an account, types in that nonsense and then is never seen again, not for months) Also, it seems that we are out of Pepsi and Keith is wicked funny, SKAT is underappreciated, Charlotte is beyond patient and TPS thinks that Soup is like a city, not a suburb (while I disagree because there are desperate housewives all over this place)

Broken, I took out this book for my girl from the local library. She LOVED it, and though the teacher doesn't get eaten... the humor in it is quite the same. www.amazon.com/Ever-Want-Bring-Alligator-School/dp/0316376574 it has a look inside. Take a peek! It may make you laugh...

What Ian taught me is that I need to loosen up, lol, quite a bit. He pulled my braids, too... won't get into the details of a poetic switcheroo he pulled on me and I didn't get the WHY of it. Still, I think I get it, now.

I'll never forget I did a contest on pets and everyone was entering heartbreaking poems and Ian writes a poem about his pet alligator that he takes to school on show and tell day, and the alligator eats Miss Wings, (me I guess) all the children in the class and all the pets they brought, and then he contacts me and asks why his poem did not place, Ian, I said I could not place your poem with all those heartbreaking, tearful poems of peoples, beloved pets... it is funny now looking back on it ~

Goodnight, Captain. (you will always be Captain to me, now, if that is okay.) Yes. Early and my "crew" is about to get up and we are in for a busy day. Cheers to you. Look out for Cling-ons. Ensign Dee.

Hey, Keith, did I leave out anything? Or is this summary pretty solid? What did I forget... mmm... oh yeah, TPS has offered to create a new site called anythinggoespoetry where anarchy rules and so does free speech. Utopia or hell? Hard to say. Maybe both.

Brave, honest blog, Charlotte, my feelings are, for me, the rules here are fine and welcome...I personally feel encouragement is the best way to grow as a poet, if one reads a lot, one will evolve and learn...I don't like criticism, and edit my work 'till I'm satisfied....but I do admit I have altered a work after seeking help from dg...grudgingly! She's the only 1 I know with magic powers! Her writes for publications are "mind blowing"...jimbo

Charlotte, this was very nice of you to do this blog on behave of Ian, so he has been deleted. Sad. But can I be honest, the comments in this blog have me so confused, okay, so Ian is gone, Bev is leaving or thinking of leaving, and has a fake account called Shaggy Arthur or is that Ian, The Seeker is really Tormented Tommy come back to us to torment. Other people have numerous fake accounts and that's okay with TPS as long as they don't break the rules, is that about right ~

I'm one of the 'new poets' that Ian has influenced both with his remarkable poetry and his feedback. I took to heart a comment he made about a poem I wrote that placed in one of Bev's contests. He admitted it was good but challenged me to give it more punch by making the ending darker and Bev agreed. I was thrilled that he took the time to read it and comment. I did rework the ending but now I'll never know what they think of it. PS needs great poets like Ian even if, like many creative people, they color outside the lines.

Charlotte, hon, are you okay? You wrote this blog for the best of reasons and emotions ran high... still are running high. I wanted you to know that your intentions have not been forgotten! You didn't want debates. You wanted it to be about poetry, his poetry, but how do you separate what is so tightly woven together: who we intrinsically are, the way we live and what we must write? I hope you do not regret this blog. Regardless of what has been said. This blog is real, as are all the comments and replies, for the most part. Good night. Thank you for posting this. Thank you for putting up with our growls and howls, our sad thoughts, our frustration and our wanting of change. xoxoxo

There are already sites like that out there. They are totally free and do not have this type of issues. Only trolls get deleted, ever. That said, they also have controls for adult content, which is the reason I keep a site there. You have a niche here, but it's a bit over moderated for the wrong reasons.

Sure, Tom. Then, I can write a blog for each world religion, one a day-- it'll take a while. There will be a Hindu blog, a Rastafarian blog, a Wiccan blog, a Jewish blog, a Humanist blog, Shinto... Polytheistic... Ringatu... There are about 4,000 faiths out there. So it will take me a 10 years.

Ian was /is indeed a great poet. I remember the first time I was introduced to his poetry I kept reading a poem after another of his. His style was quite unique..and yes I liked it. He will be missed ,along with Bev.I really wish things have been sorted out differently, but it seems his mind was already set up to go ...I really wish his heart will tell him otherwise.Im sure there is a way He can return, and Bev too..I hate it when spices leave the soup : (. Thanks Charlotte for sharing this blog.Re Ian..He was always kind to me.. There were times where We didnt agree on certain issues but we always respected eachother.

Ian has truly found another happy home, where there are forty contest closing every day to inspire his writing and so he continues on. Bev has also landed there. One of the pluses to being on multiple sites is that everyone turns up somewhere, eventually. I'm on a bit every now and then, but my energy was waning here, even before Ian and Bev left. For now, my energy will be focused elsewhere, but I'm not a paying member, so does it matter?

Charmaine, love, you are good all the way down to your deepest cells. But Ian will not stop doing whatever it is that TPS has demanded he stop doing. Not saying this is right. But TPS will not change the rules for one poet, no matter how good or how REAL he is.

We don't comment on the reasons individuals are temporarily or permanently banned.
Macmillan Avatar

I don't think you can answer this TPS, but I will ask anyways... was the rule that was broken in regards to giving honest feedback?
Poetrysoup Avatar
January 22, 2016 at 3:36 PM
Most come back. We know of a few banned poets that have returned...(inconspicuously THEY think :-))...but they are being good so we are ignoring them. :-) We don't hold grudges. Everyone knows our policy. It's simple, just don't break the rules. It seems silly to come back, cause trouble, and then get hundreds of poems deleted again.

Re Tps...I wish they could reconsider their decision..even though he challenged them to keep to their word..I believe deep down He did that out of. retaliation of the moment.Letting him come back wont make tps look weaker, only kinder..I know they can do that..They did it in the past. Re if He wants to come back ,He should stop eating the ribeye in that other restaurant and come back to eat his fillet beef here : )..Oh I hate it ..when these things happen. Wish we could all be here again together Silent and Noisy ones in peace.

In spite of the few problems that rise up each year, PoetrySoup grows at a rate of about 20-30% a year. What you don't see are the thousands of silent poets who go about their PoetrySoup day encouraging and being productive community members. They typically avoid blogs. Ghost town? Actually just the opposite is happening. :-)

Let's just agree we have a different definition of 'wrong'...We try to maintain a certain atmosphere at PoetrySoup (TRY…sometimes fruitlessly) and it is not for everyone (even some great poets). The good thing about the internet is that we have options. Options are good.

Anyway, some people want to live near mountains; some near the beach. Others love city life while many like more rural places. All of us have different likes and desires. However, we don’t think anyone should try to change the city into the suburbs. Just move to the suburbs.

I was not a fan of Ian's. However, we've been exchanging mail for almost 3 months. TPS decision to evict him was a horrible move. Charlotte, there's 3 sides to every story -the egoist/the liar/the truth. Ian was on to something, trying to open our eyes. ENOUGH SAID....... On another note, I'd like to share something about Ian:) I love rolling out the welcome mat to the New Poets, in which I find to be compromised right now. Anyways, Ian was a sweetheart when approaching the new poets. He'd critique the new poet with inspiration never left a cheesy or copypaste welcomes:). He had wonderful tactics when offering feedback. His writing's are unique, no one compares. Ian had a wonderful way with the poets following his work. SKAT

He and I had just started to REALLY look at each other's poetry. Like most people who are VERY MUCH ALIKE, we have rankled each other. I missed out on his feedback. If I'd had a better sense of humour (Charlotte, laugh, you know how bloody serious I am about poetry. Worry over it, brood and spoon feed it and change its nappy a thousand times over) BUT if I had only trusted him a wee bit more... I think he would have held those darlings of mine, bounced them on his knee, made them smile... BETTERED THEM. This week he fostered a poem in me... it will take some time to complete it. It will be part of a submission package to "the Puritan." I will fuss over that thing, make him proud.
