This was probably the most difficult contest I've ever judged! It was relatively easy to pick out the fifteen winners but...the fun and games started when trying to sort them into numerical placements! They were all so good in different ways; my taste is quite eclectic and I really had to draw on that. There are a lot of third and fourth placements because there was so little to choose between the poems. By far the commonest reason for a poem failing to place was that the writer hadn't followed the contest direction, and had written about the tree rather than from the tree's perspective - a pity, because I liked some of the poems I had to discard.
