I was born in Des Moines, Iowa. During the war Mom and my sister and I lived in Mason City until Dad came home. Then back to Des Moines. Graduated High School at Topeka High in Topeka, Kansas, and then went right to work for Hallmark Cards in the Litho Art Department. This proved to be better than a college education in art. Met and married my husband in Topeka, then moved to Staten Island, NY to take over De Jong's Bakery, the family business. We ended up in Colorado, bought a new bakery and settled down to raise our four kids and a menagerie of critters on a 15 acre homestead. For the most part, these were wonderful and fun filled years. Then I lost my husband of thirty-seven and a half years, January 1, 1998. Happy New Year.... It just hasn't been the same since, and a fair amount of my poetry reflects this transition in my life.

I have always drawn and painted for pleasure, to tell small stories, but I also have always written down my feelings. Sometimes when I couldn't find the words to say them out loud, or when I was filled with joy or frustration, writing set the feelings in order. (I am famous for having the right words to say the next day after the wrong words were already said!)

Locally I am a member of the Greeley Poetry Club, and the Greeley Art Association. These are fun groups and has flowered some good friendships.

I am a watercolorist of wildlife and Americana subjects. If you are interested, here is the link to my website and blog.

The faster the time goes

Blog Posted:2/10/2008 10:47:00 AM

I guess it must be time for me to say hello again. Won't be much, but I'm amazed ... amused ... almost frightened by how fast the time is going. Why, it's going so fast that it is tearing my hair out on the way by!

Sort of summed that up in my poem, "Don't Blink ... A Fast and Sad Tale ..."

At the beginning of the year we were covered with snow, and what, 40 some days later the archway out front can see its own reflection in the melt off. I have to say, however, I'm happy I'm not in Wyoming nor in the mountains here. My goodness there has been a lot of snow. The state is 136% of normal here. That is a lot of snow. I wouldn't complain at all except for the price of propane. That is pretty scary!

I want to thank everyone here for their comments on my newest entries. "Green Horse Trough" seems to have touched your memories and that gives me so much pleasure. You have no idea how much your support, and the sharing of your thoughts mean to me. Especially when you are able to share the thoughts the poem triggers for you.  Thank you, John Heck, Deneen White, Vince Suzadail Jr., john loving iii, Sandra Hudson, Sharon Weimer and Gino Dolorzo for doing just exactly that!

I cannot name everyone here, but will be catching up with your comments. Hmmm ... somehow I seem to always be trying to catch up. My organizational skills are going to have to improve.

My love to you all. ~J~

Hi Judith. I love snow and still am hoping for one single good snowfall this year, but I don't think it's going to happen. Of course, if we had as much as you, I might very well be complaining by now and longing for Spring. Just want to say it's so nice to have you back at the soup. Love, Shar

Thank you for your encouragement! It has really been something this year ... the weather ... and where I am hasn't even seen the half of it. I just keep on lots of layers! So ... back to the long-johns for a few more weeks!

I have a hard enough time dealing with the weather here in NYC. I can't imagine what it's like living there in your part of the country. Brrrr...Stay warm, Judith! Peace always, John
