I was born in a small city, (Bathurst) New Brunswick, Canada, the third eldest of thirteen children, ten girls and three boys. I’m the product of a semi-dysfunctional family, brought up by a physically controlling father, versus a loving nurturing mother. Many of my poems reflect the uniqueness and special circumstances of my upbringing and love of nature.

Hi, just a heads up, due to the COVID-19 pandemic as a precaution (I'm 71 years old with pre-existing conditions,) I've self-quarantined myself inside my condo and will most likely not be able to leave it for several months. I regret to have to say, that means any books that are won in one of my contests will be delayed in shipping, but be assured the contest will go on, and the books will be shipped, but not right away.

Emile, just to echo everybody's comments below, take the utmost care of yourself, and let everything else be secondary. I will add this, though - your book "A Match In The Dark" is a delight to read and I heartily recommend it to anyone to purchase it on Amazon. Many wonderful poems by you, plus a generous number of pages devoted to a bio and sample poem of many well-loved Soup poets, plus a healthy-sized appendix of poetry form explanations. $15.60 on Amazon.com. Stay safe Emile, your health is important and you should not put yourself at risk. I just wish that everyone took it seriously and followed the advice given because not only do they risk their own health but others as well. These are dark times for us all. Tom

Yes, please stay safe, Emile. Your health is the most important thing and I'm glad you're taking the necessary precautions. I'm SMH as I watch CNN right now. Many people in San Francisco are not taking COVID-19 seriously. They're shown jogging, roller-blading, out and about with no social distancing...It's crazy! Hang in there, bud. This too shall pass!

we only have a population of 80,000 Andrea it could be catastrophic if it comes here. i am hoping they will have mum's carehome on lockdown soon it has been implemented elsewhere. they are having a meeting about it, it will be tough on mum as we visit almost every day:-(

Emile I think everyone will understand the reason why you can't send the books it's of paramount importance for you to stay safe. Please take care and look after yourself and i look forward to reading any poetry you post. Our little Island is on lock down - anyone who arrives from midnight has to quarantine for 14 days and the ferries are contemplating bringing freight only. We have to do all we can to protect ourselves and our loved ones:-) hugs jan xx
