A Vine in Winter

denuded of foliage 
left with the bare essence of my existence
a gnarled unassuming frame
from which new life will burst forth in spring
firmly anchored in fertile soil 
the terroir for the vineyard 
selected with care
basking in the watery winter sun 
incapable of turning my head for the best aspect
consoling myself with the fact
that my tender tri-lobed

Pouring wines from your fingertips
You are a vineyard of emotions
Anger plucked too early from the vine
Is the sourest crop you grow here
But guilt is your most popular flavor
You sell a wine called "The Seven Sins"

Ballerina Firefly of the Enchanted Vineyard

Ballerina firefly,
Your beauty,
 Is that of enchanted vineyards,
In the sighs,

Enchantress,
Down to earth,

Vineyard Twilight


In the soft cooling
Silence of early twilight
Blue fades to purple.
The wishing star’s reflected
In the ocean sky.

Vigorous, plentiful
vines, diligently pruned
venture trained upon wire,
vast leaves cropped for dolmas.
Valued for complex taste,
vermillion morsels make
vintage wine with patience.

A View of the Vineyard

The chartreuse pearls hung on the pregnant vine
as whispered jade of leaves in autumn breeze.
The necklaces of trellis did entwine
like clefs of absinthe notes in verdant keys.
