Trumpeting Their Voices To Space

I
I had big plans to fast and pray: Maundy Thursday
More prayer than fasting, while preparing slowly
For the evenings bible study, I a weak disciple
Neighbors played their competing loud music, as usual
Then I paused: discerning a yearning theme in the cacophony

II
One powerful female tenor seemed to address sky and space
In clarion calls, vagaries and varieties of love embodied vocally
I had dismissed music I did not find inspiring, until skilfully deployed
They made a case for a dignity, even universal honor, through loving
On Earth: we crave loyalty, human love, more than hell to avoid

Trumpeting Out Loud

IT's a pandemic you twit
your decisions should be in the thick of it,
but alas,
 you barely fill the glass
only proving my first thought as you pass
what an a...

Being presidential
 must be circumstantial
and every word you utter
 slips into confusion poorly buttered
unkind and harsh in the gutter
go to the course and putter.

Shine your horns
if only you could be a beacon in the storm
yet your present id is ever diminished
by yourself trumpeting endless and unfinished
causing every word heard to be felt with grimace
blow the trumpets, beat the drums and leave us.

Trumpeting Now

The poor are not dropping like flies
And Trump wants to know, "What's up, guys?
Don't be a jerk!
Get back to work!
America needs a surprise!"

Trumpeting Angel

Hearing the soft jazz trumpet

the drum tat, tat, tat,

the rhythm of my heart

the piano notes vibrate roll and resound

in the room with more of his trumpet’s undulating sounds

his songs warm and strong rolling down

my mind my heart let go of the shadows

tightening nerves and fear of pain

coating my mind and chest like warmed honey

the heart beating gently now to his tunes

chanting deep canticle sounds

Song of Songs soothing the tears away

easing my mind joining a spirit no longer mine

into the darkness and distant starlight

stretching out to something deep universal and fine.

We Had It All - a Cynical Look At Trumpeting

We have it all
Indeed we do,
    both me and you.
The scandal crawling beneath the sheets,
     outrageous claims shouted in the streets;
the gropes, the lascivious touches, firm untruthful lies
and only after much denial, comes the story chastised.
These are, shall we say, past almost forgotten indiscretions
made by so many legislative ineffective legends
as much more rises to a level of unanswered questions.
It's a power play, a need of complete control
how it is obtained is a wonder to behold.
Deflect the truth and place solid blame
     on predecessors who once reigned.
Could we just focus here
this was suppose to be a turn around year
instead we throw away the progress made,
everything for which we already paid.
Months passed with little done
except for slippage on equality and guns,
no compromise, discussion or lack thereof pains
into the cold and dark of April rains.
The future held in promises begins to erode and wane.
