touch of a friend when ill

trusting beyond knowing
times my compassion won
two lives becoming one
triumph through tragedy

Divine Treasures

Are those stars, all failed wishes?
Perhaps, bright twinkles for extended reach
stars for dazzle and to teach
time means more to man than faith
God is loyal, and always the same
in ways, countless, guiding us beloved 
and dearly treasured youthful sparkles -- 

The Real Treasures Of A Man

The real treasures of a man 
Are in his soul 
Are all the beautiful feelings in it
The strength with which 
He gets up whenever life knocks him
The kindness, the generosity with which 
He shares all that is good and most beautiful 
The faith and love with which 
He gives himself to the world.

When seeking treasures in this world…
may we be blessed to see…
sometimes we need to look no farther
than our friends and family.

I Have Become Stale

My knees held tightly to my chest,
I thought the storm clouds were miles off in the distance, 
Of someone else's distress.

But morning came, and the storm remained.
No water nor washing could wipe away the stains of sorrows
And restlessness from my covers-
My detrimental haven...

I could rot away here, the irony being I already do.
What treasures can

Old Treasures

Legos, crayons, yo-yo’s, shells,
Key chains, postcards, notes from camp,
Magnifying glasses, tokens
And a clip-on bedside lamp…

Action figures, racing cars,
Sticker books and rubber snakes,
Pez dispensers, memo pads and
Statuettes with cracks and breaks…

Baseball cards and ping-pong balls,
Loose erasers, sweatbands, dice -
Most would take a glance and toss ‘em,
Never even thinking twice.

Going through my kids’ old treasures,
That is what

HIDDEN TREASURES

Hidden treasures in my mind...
Cherished memories with you.
Some are easier to find
Mapped out on a print of blue.
Others are harder to recall
Although they are retained.
Despite this, I still love them all...
Inside my head - contained.
Maps that I have drawn of past
Co-ordinates and places.
Either lost or made to last...
The good times and their faces.
Along my way

Truffles and Treasures

Mankind seems a fraction lost
chasing truffles and treasures
through the sawdust of his mind.
Beating back wild hogs
in the backwaters of temptations
as emerald jacket croakers
play hide and seek
with cattails swaying back and forth
through their mossy incarnations.

Nobody cares to sacrifice amidst the briar
to walk in the steel toed heartache of another.
...nobody yearns to meet the silky eye of

Some Treasures

To the red dust of the Highveld plains and KwaZulu koppies;
          Where young feet roamed and in its earth-breathe did romp
            Beneath golden haze, as in an oil canvas, the sunset lay
   

Family Treasures-Ephemera

In the corner of a room is a showcase
received from a library rummage sale.
It's being utilized differently than
its original purpose for the public.
It is now very much a family focus.

On top of the case are two pairs of small
shoes originally purchased some 40 years
ago for our sons who are now 42 and 46.

Hidden Treasures - Ephemera

Rummaging in my attic-
     found in a withered white box;
          one each for the three of them-
my son's and two daughter's births.

Small treasures, hidden for years
     discovered as a surprise-

She firmly gripped the cardboard box as though
it housed the formulas for happiness,
longevity, and peace, as if it held
a million dollars and a bag of gems.

She sipped her bottled water that must last
until the rescue team could reach her where
she hovered on the roof alone and prayed
as murky water crept up inch by inch.

Treasures of the Deep

pink basket, diving for eggs
this plastic okay
as long as they are all recovered
and don’t lay
like a wreck in the sea

pink basket, frog kick,
acrobatics and bubbles
amidst the handpicked
Easter eggs, beholding
treasures of the deep

pink basket, God’s eye
deep and wide, never
misses our whereabouts
neither our joys
or sufferings

the cross on land
never plunged
into the deep, but
the blood of Christ
counts all the
