Every day it seems a battle,
finds a way to leave you rattled,
the nonsense you see on TV,
lots of lies from the legacy,
traffic jams, can’t work from home,
boss demands, tell his where to go,
just goes on, the price we must pay,
comes a time you must get away!
I want to go off,
let this thing blow off,
the stress I’ll throw off,
I want to go off.
I want to go off,
let this thing blow off,
the stress I’ll throw off,
let this thing explode.
Find the time, bleed it off slowly,
clear my mind of the unholy,
make a plan, or maybe wing it,
find something that I can sink in.
Get a drink, maybe a woman,
take a trip, get up and go then,
some chaos, can be balancing,
feel alive, that’s what I’m wanting.
I want to go off,
let this thing blow off,
the stress I’ll throw off,
I want to go off.
I want to go off,
let this thing blow off,
the stress I’ll throw off,
let this thing explode.
Let this thing explode,
let this thing explode,
let this thing explode…
every man must unload.

Another drag... inhale, exhale, inhale, lungs fill with toxic smoke
another sip... fire glides down her aching throat
another croaking whisper to the one beside, although aloof and remote.
She laughs in the face of sorrow, trying in vain to hide behind her eyes
the sound is an open coffin, a high hysterical
plea filled cry
I imagine she has children, and the sweetness of love since nothing less can cause such hurt
For what we care for most, are the very things
we just can't desert
As much as we yearn to dislocate, hide and finally
push self~destruct
We are bound with soul ties that true love feverishly constructs
Unable to throw off these chains
connecting soul to soul
We walk about as Marley's ghost,
each link taking a toll.
For the ties are conducive to nightmares or dreams of lost loves
Imprinted on our hearts and minds, never fully leaving us.
Whether your Love is unrequited, or Love that stays true
You create the spirits that will forever haunt you.

The bed is soft, familiar.
Not comfort, not really, just known.
A sinking, a settling,
the weight of existing pressing down,
but not enough to break me.
The dishes stack in the sink,
a quiet monument to days slipping by.
My phone buzzes, I don’t check.
The world is moving, but I am not.
Not yet.
And still -
something in my chest tightens,
not in fear, not in regret,
but in recognition.
A shift, a stretch,
a thought that maybe I don’t have to
stay here forever.
I don’t throw off the duvet,
don’t leap into the light.
But I swing one foot over the edge.
A small rebellion,
a promise to the self I’m becoming.

Throw off the old tired ways
Seek something new to try
Look to the brighter days
Let all your cares go bye
It's the hard thing that stays
Shifting can cause tumults
Often finding false praise
This world wants firm results
Take the other one's place
Before it's way too late
Peer in the face of race
First off, let's end the hate
Turn the tables on the rich
Quell fake profit sharing
Pull the poor from the ditch
Feed the hungry staring
Our earth's slowly dying
Take a tactic that's new
Plants out loud are crying
See what we all can do
As your path runs along
Honor differences
When benefits seem strong
Find fair consequences
No need for reasons why
Worn words all sound the same
What's weak hides in our sigh
Fearing change is insane

Its a fanfare day
feed into my dream
if you want to
all this love and nomenclature
is just a trying zone
I sit with our lives
preen shelter
our days will be blowing
pear nosed
we are unwinding
we are all traveling parallel lines
into the twilight zone
I lightly throw off my juxtaposition

like a butterfly
with my pretty wings wounded ~
I try to flutter
When my soul is bruised and beaten down,
and my heart injured, scarred and bleeding:
I fold what's left of my broken wings with a sigh,
as feelings of emptiness overwhelm my life;
for I need to heal within and be reborn beautiful.
I need to find the healing power of green,
in nature's harmony of new growth and rebirth:
enthralled with the trees swaying in the wind,
and wildflowers in hues of healing lavender;
I am soothed with the balm of serene grace.
And then, though still wounded my wings open,
and with a quiet sigh I gasp with great happiness:
there is still a hurt, ache, and grief but also joy,
so I throw off betrayal, tears, and fear- and I soar;
for this was a spiritual journey to find the true me.

Lying on the solid ground
Chewing on a blade of grass
Dreaming of a bright tomorrow
Wishing time would hurry up and pass
Sitting in a jammed room
Full of systems and games
Too young for it to really matter
That no one knows the importance of names
Teaching by example is done
Hope flew to a better home
People thinking others have it good
While the majority are happy to be left alone
A generation with a future
Fought to rid self of control
While this bunch of teens
Are wandering in the great void of soul
The gap between what was
And what is to come
Lies within the watered down flame
Held captive by the sun
Let us throw off the shackles
And dig deep into jeweler's well
Let us pull up treasures
That no history book could ever tell

Lynne knew she wanted to burst out of her life
Onto a new stage
She wanted to sing and dance
Frolic and swivel
Learn and love
Laugh and twirl
She wanted to throw off all responsibilities
To leave school
To start her own adventure
Where to begin
And what direction?
She bristled with excitement

A Wisdom Download
One Sunday morning
When walls in pale hues of sage
Coaxed me into a womb of praise
Hard pews reminded me to listen
Rather than slip back into sleepy malaise
As wisdom tapped me on the shoulder
Then tied a hallowed string around my finger
Reminder!
Remember!
Throw off que sera sera into ditches of blind fate!
Embrace
This sparkling celestial a-ha
Where wisdom drips like honeyed dewdrops
From tangled spider webs
In the holy chalice of choice
Sacred silence births wisdom
From a question now poised and posing
To change the direction of my pilgrim tides –
A river flowing in not out –
Cross waters for my soul
Choose the burden of my insatiable ego
Or
Amazing grace that soars casting off millstones
WAM or WAY
What About Me?
Or
What About You?
Inferno of never burning divine fire
To purify my mindless, untamed intentions
Into grace of gold for my quester spirit
Me - first
Or
You - first
What about this divine way!
To walk in sunrise or choose midnight?
What about….

The beach is her sanctuary
her solitude of freedom
a place she can
throw off her flip flops
and strip her feet naked
spreading her footprints everywhere
without fear of judgement

Will liberty ring out again
beneath the cries of human rights
can freedom's name survive,
dissembling and lies
Will duty from its prison flee
throw off its shackled memory
is respect just a word
spoken,but never heard
How long, how long 'til I becomes thee ?
when when will ego bend the knee
the victim is not me
my friend my friend it's we.
Who rings this bell of liberty
truly woke sounds our culture's death knell.

I'd like to walk once more on a pristine shore
And feel the morning sun caress my face.
I'd like to smell the crisp, clean, salty air,
Feel playful ocean breezes rustling through my hair,
And should storm clouds dare to gather there,
I'd laugh out loud at those scowling clouds,
Throw off my shroud of solitude and revel in the rain.
I'd like to forget about space, and time, and place,
And age, and loneliness, and pain.
I'd like the bliss of a kiss and a warm embrace,
And if the universe would care to spare
One single final coup de grace,
I'd like to be in love again.

I miss you - your methodical intelligence, your clear and definite character, your scratchy-blue-beard, your voice - a high fidelity love song.
I’m less obsessive about you in the rush of college with its narrowed perspectives and endless, immediate goals. It’s harder on vacation. There’s too much free time.
I’m tortured by my own needs.
“I can live without him,” I say, out of the blue, to no one - we’re lounging by a spa pool - “I’m going to reel myself in,” I add, listlessly “or I could just invite him - he’d show up for his own reasons..”
“You’re talking to yourself.” Lisa says.
“I’m seeking expert advice.” I answer back, shaking my head as if to throw off doubts.

LOVE SHOULD BE
The way the moon gives way,
So, the sun can shine.
It was you, right down
The line.
LOVE SHOULD BE
The waves constant on the shore line,
The ebb and flow push back.
It is not something you can,
Throw off track.
LOVE SHOULD BE
The way winter warms
For spring.
Love should be WOW!
Quite the thing.
LOVE SHOULD BE
Dreams and wishes that
Come true.
Love never changes its
Point of view.
LOVE SHOULD BE
Constant, not fickle
Or change.
It should be bold, silly,
Clumsy and strange.
LOVE SHOULD BE
How noise quiets for
The silence.
It should be dizzy, sweaty
Not a science.
LOVE SHOULD BE
Free, easy, smooth,
Hot and sticky.
Not used or sinful,
Ugly or tricky.
LOVE SHOULD BE
Loose, never confined, it freely
Flows.
Not something that changes
When the wind blows.
LOVE SHOULD BE
That thing that makes
Time stand still.
It should be honored, respected,
Not something we kill.
