SHACKLED HOPE

Lying on the solid ground Chewing on a blade of grass Dreaming of a bright tomorrow Wishing time would hurry up and pass Sitting in a jammed room Full of systems and games Too young for it to really matter That no one knows the importance of names Teaching by example is done Hope flew to a better home People thinking others have it good While the majority are happy to be left alone A generation with a future Fought to rid self of control While this bunch of teens Are wandering in the great void of soul The gap between what was And what is to come Lies within the watered down flame Held captive by the sun Let us throw off the shackles And dig deep into jeweler's well Let us pull up treasures That no history book could ever tell Written by Trudy Schrader on 12-10-2023
