They broke my heart too,
with honesty

"Whispering words
of wisdom"
caustic,
bitter and raw
for effect

The end is dry and nigh,

so are the shades of yellow:

the subtle meanings
where I met you
on a casual Tuesday

between caffeine intakes
and abrupt beginnings

There was always Helen Jane Long
playing 'Solus'

I need to sew a shirt
for tomorrow's race

There is always time

I try to dance
through orange hallways
of scattered apricots
and half-filled dreams
(Empty ice creams)
with Pink Floyd
cheering me on

an echo in an eggshell

and all the other shades
of my intrepid moon

Premium Member Rediscovering the Beatles

they get better
as I get older

‘A Long
and Winding Road’
I ran with ever-
restless feet
past the farms
of Canandaigua

Simon and Garfunkel
sang me through
the steeper climbs

I built my “Bridge
Over Troubled Water”
one plank at a time

 I learned to step rhythmically
with a level view
up and over the ever rising
roads that kissed the edge
of a bass-filled lake
and patient
cornfields

“and time can do
so much”

I was sewn roughly
together
by the music
of The Righteous Brothers
“Unchained Melody”
after Terry and Tahira
died
“lonely rivers sigh”

concentrate
on the deer
munching dandelions
in September
“I’ll be coming home,
wait for me.”

a doe pirouettes
off a car
in front of me
and I am finally calm
in not knowing
the meaning
behind
everything

Premium Member The Beatles and I on Marriage and Love

If it’s really as the Beatles say
          ‘All you need is love’

Then I’ll skip examining my marriage
contract with that ageless old white glove

Premium Member DAILY GRATITUDE THE BEATLES AND THE DOVE

I am finding my gratitude in the Beatles
and the pure white dove…
who stand for peace,
for pacifism
and who understand and symbolize
to make the world a better place
all we need is love.

The Beatles made an awesome hit;
from England came, and quickly lit
the way that music would be heard.
Though some would think it quite absurd,
their songs rose high on all the charts
and stole the love of teenage hearts.
Most famous song was "Yesterday."
Paul, John, George, Ringo- led their way!

The Song is my Superpower

I’ve Just Seen a Face
my first selection
I become more than I am
for the contest
I sing without the prompts
and make the lyrics mine.
I'm happy to have the day off.
Neon lights shine in the window
as other patrons watch
and someone throwing darts
pauses to take a look.
Free deli sandwiches
and chips on a table—
a special night to partake.
My second, Lady Madonna,
a slice of life for some.
I take a sip of my drink.
A former manager watches,
and I must admit I can never
be truly myself at the store.
The DJ says we all are winners
although only two will move on.
I receive a pat on the back
after the audience lost themselves
while watching me.
I had sung two songs
but someone sitting at the bar
said my music called for another.
A light in the parking lot
shines a star.

Conjuring the Lives of Paul McCartney and The Beatles

I’m bringing out the songs
lingering inside
as patrons in the bar
gaze at me—
I’ve been waiting for this night
for the last two days.
I am looking for the stars
while singing from my heart.
I sing I’ve Just Seen a Face
something I first heard
in sixth grade when walking
into the classroom.
Through the years it stirs
sweet memories of women I met.
I sing I Will, a ballad
for women I’ll always love.
People at the bar
wave cellphones lit like lighters
at a concert.
When I sing Band on the Run
by Paul McCartney and Wings
a sense of wanderlust fills my soul
to go back to my college town
as if I could live my life again.
I’ve been an aide to child welfare workers,
a laborer, a temp, and poet, too.
But now to the glow of neon lights
I become someone other than
my everyday self
as music spells the night.

   The Beatles, song stylists
so far ahead of their time

   Their music, to harmony
     what poetry is to rhyme

The band John Lennon
formed, called The Quarrymen
played half skiffle and
half rock and roll.

Four years later in
nineteen sixty, the band
evolved into The Beatles
with five men lineup.

John, Paul, George, Stuart,
who died and Peter,
replaced by Ringo were
nicknamed The Fab Four.

Their arrival here sixty
years ago, this month
triggered cultural and musical
movement, the British Invasion.

Will we ever again see the likes of The Beatles d'ya think
A phenomenon so great it changed the music scene in a blink
John Paul Ringo and George
A brand new type of music they forged
Which without doubt will live on forever methinks

Premium Member Let It Be Inspired By the Beatles

*Inspired by the Beatles song: Let it be

The answer may come with the wind,
Or maybe when you are sitting by the river
It may come with the rolling waves at the beach
Or reach you on a high mountain top
The answer you are looking for may rise with the sun,
As it shines through your window with beams of light,
Or when you are sitting with a cup of coffee as the day begins
It may come to you as you are taking a walk,
While nature speaks, runs and plays around you
The answer can come any one of these days
Let it take its natural course, it can come any one of these ways!

Corner Store, Park, the Beatles

Mike Bayles

floor creaks
footsteps echo
cans of shelves
feeling small
I follow my older cousin
he buys me
Beatle bubblegum cards
the outdoors calls
luscious park and playground
near my school
greenery abounds
a walk back home
secret conversations
I say Paul
and he agrees
aimless clouds drift
lambs and lions
and daisy chains
always a rhythm in time
