Premium Member When I Heard About the Beatles

I was a preteen when I first heard about The Beatles.
Small town girl from the country, sure we had TV
But we did not know anything about England or Liverpool.
I had never heard “We all live in a Yellow Submarine”.

I was at church camp when someone put up some
Black and white posters around the cabin.
The big city Des Moines girls oohed and ached.
The rest of us stared at each other.

They were talking about Ringo and John
As if they knew them.
Paul was the “cute one”.
George was rarely mentioned.

I thought it was silly.
But we listened to their songs day and night
Because the Des Moines girls were more aggressive
And we acted silly screaming and stuff because it pleased them.

Premium Member Parody of the Beatles Song - Yesterday

Christmas Day
Pa threw all my new toys away
Now my friends won’t want to come and play
Cos I was naughty yesterday

Suddenly
All the gifts disappeared from ‘neath the tree
Now the carpet’s bare for all to see
Pa snapped at me so suddenly

Why I had to drown our old cat
I cannot say
She fell in the loo so I flushed
the cat awayyyyyyyyyyy

Christmas Day
Pa threw all my new toys away
Santa delivered them on his red sleigh
But when Pa is mad, there’s no leeway

Purely Fictional write inspired by hearing Yesterday on the radio

My Sheep (Parody of the Beatles' "she Loves You")

My sheep go “Baa, Baa, Baa”
My sheep go “Baa, Baa, Baa”
My sheep go “Baa, Baa, Baa, Baa, Baa”

Farm country’s quite a place
Greener space and friendly smiles
My sheepdog likes to chase
Grazing flocks out here for miles

You know without sheep,
Don’t ya know I would be sad
Yeah without sheep,
I would go stark raving mad

My sheep go “Baa, Baa, Baa”
My sheep go “Baa, Baa, Baa”
And with a woolly friend, your life is never bad

They call me Miss BoPeep
I guess it’s sorta fair
Because my spoiled sheep
Get tender loving care

You know without sheep,
Don’t ya know I would be sad
Yeah without sheep,
I would go stark raving mad, ooh!

My sheep go “Baa, Baa, Baa”
My sheep go “Baa, Baa, Baa”
And with a woolly friend, your life is never bad

So you can spread the word
My stock stick waives with pride
Noisy faithful herds
Are always by my side

You know without sheep,
Don’t ya know I would be sad
Yeah without sheep,
I would go stark raving mad, ooh!

My sheep go “Baa, Baa, Baa”
My sheep go “Baa, Baa, Baa”
And with a woolly friend, your life is never bad
With a woolly friend, your life is never bad
With a woolly friend, your life is never...
Bad!
"Baa, Baa, Baa"
"Baa, Baa, Baa, Baaaaaa"

Shakespeare V the Beatles, For Contest

With all respect to the Beatles classic, behold my Bardish version of 'Yellow Submarine'

O’er the hill whence yelped was I
bode a fellow flote for gain
mark’d we of discourses thence
yonder country of sunken ships

Put to sea beyond yon sun
happenstanced ‘pon waters green
stayed for ’ere neath briny there
within ochre sunken ship

Refrain :

Bide we all neath yon ochre sunken ship
ochre sunken ship, ochre sunken ship
bide we all neath yon ochre sunken ship
ochre sunken ship, ochre sunken ship

‘ere beside stay’d inwards all
and more company ne’er afar
‘ere the Minstrels playeth on
within ochre sunken ship

repeat refrain to fade ...

Premium Member DAILY GRATITUDE THE BEATLES AND THE DOVE

I am finding my gratitude in the Beatles
and the pure white dove…
who stand for peace,
for pacifism
and who understand and symbolize
to make the world a better place
all we need is love.

Ode To the Beatles' Song Stuck In My Head

Strawberry fields.
I want to go there
where giraffes in art class
form human shapes
out of vanilla candle wax.

Surreal like a Dali painting
with melting clocks
strewn over large rocks
where nothing is real,
but not so unbelievable either.

Shakespeare V the Beatles 'Girl'

With great respect to "Girl" by the Beatles, heretofore is my Shakespearean take, in which I have tried to retain the cadence, so you can sing along. The Beatles lyric appears first, for comparison :

Is there anybody going to listen to my story
All about the girl who came to stay?
She's the kind of girl
You want so much it makes you sorry
Still you don't regret a single day
Ah, girl, girl, girl

When I think of all the times
I tried so hard to leave her
She will turn to me and start to cry
And she promises the earth to me
And I believe her
After all this time I don't know why
Ah, girl, girl, girl

Should’st a single soul there be unto my tale would hearken
mere the maiden who abode with me
so content mine heart for aught though mine physic wast heavy
chide my humour not ‘twixt dawn and dusk.
Ah, wench, wench, wench.

Thinketh well upon the times I fancy hie me thither
o’erwrought she wafteth glassy-eyed
when the globe to me she warrants I attend her purpose
truth, for aye, I comprehendeth not.
Ah, wench, wench, wench.

Salute To the Beatles

They Come Together, and Get Back, and then just Let it Be.
The Yellow Submarine needs Help; and will you Please Please Me?
Sargent Pepper`s Lonely Hearts Club had A Hard Days Night.
Rubber Soul shot the Revolver at the Album White.
Imagine it was Yesterday, when we got No Reply!
You Can`t Do That?, Think for Yourself, and then please Tell Me Why.
Don`t Let Me Down, cause If I Fell, we couldn`t Twist and Shout.
Or take the Magic Mystery Tour, without Michelle, no doubt.
Across the Universe there`ll be The Long and Winding Road—
And just past the Strawberry Fields—the famous Abbey Road.
Well, Do You Want to Know a Secret? P.S. I Love You.
Run for Your Life, Eight Days a Week, if you don`t Love Me Do.
But You Won`t See Me, so I guess I`ll just Follow the Sun.
You`ve Got to Hide Your Love Away— If I Needed Someone.
I think You`re Gonna Lose That Girl, and no, It Won`t Be Long—
But Anytime at All, Another Girl would be just wrong.
Cause You Like Me Too Much, but I won`t let you Drive My Car.
I`m not aware of What Goes On, I Need You where you are.
I keep the Beatles In My Life, their music makes me smile.
And When I`m 64, I`ll still enjoy it for awhile.

The Beatles Against Segregation

In 1964 the Beatles toured the USA
And they stood against the Segregation way
John said they would rather lose the cost
Than take the stage with a segregated crowd as it was a loss

Even in these modern days where this stance
Makes you hip in your current civil rights dance
They stood tall and did not fall
And know it at that time a courageous call.

Conjuring the Lives of Paul McCartney and The Beatles

I’m bringing out the songs
lingering inside
as patrons in the bar
gaze at me—
I’ve been waiting for this night
for the last two days.
I am looking for the stars
while singing from my heart.
I sing I’ve Just Seen a Face
something I first heard
in sixth grade when walking
into the classroom.
Through the years it stirs
sweet memories of women I met.
I sing I Will, a ballad
for women I’ll always love.
People at the bar
wave cellphones lit like lighters
at a concert.
When I sing Band on the Run
by Paul McCartney and Wings
a sense of wanderlust fills my soul
to go back to my college town
as if I could live my life again.
I’ve been an aide to child welfare workers,
a laborer, a temp, and poet, too.
But now to the glow of neon lights
I become someone other than
my everyday self
as music spells the night.
