The Ballad of the Ca Surfer

The Ballad of the California Surfer

Early morning waves rise high
Looking like it touches the California sky
While surfers glide through morning waves,
Sun shining down on the sand
As ocean mist wets his hand,
There's no place I would rather be
Then on a surfboard out at sea
Through the horizon
While waves are risen
I will surf the california seas
 Through that wet misty breeze
When I surf the waves with such ease,
Because there's no place I would rather be
Then on a surfboard out at sea
While the sun is risen
On the early morning horizon
I will surf the California seas

Premium MemberAnd the Beat Moved On

What happened to the old ‘Do-wop’
          piano triplets and ‘bop-she-bop’

      Romantic ballads juke-box kissed
disco nights now wrapped in mist

      Brian Wilson’s surfboard gone
          Liverpool mopheads no more spawned...

New heartthrobs soar, then fade away ~
          Beethoven rolled over yesterday

Holiday Humor- Limerick Set Poetry Contest
Tania Kitchin

It's Christmas in Hawaii tomorrow
And the blue skies be bright with a rainbow
Santa gets in a grass skirt
And a red Aloha shirt
He makes his way from each home's patio

He'll island hop a surfboard and skateboard
And path his gifts free of all disaccord
Perhaps stop at a luau
And devour some native chow
Santa's Hawaii trip was a reward

When Santa returned home to the North Pole
His starved reindeer met him with a drum roll
To each of his dears a dish
... Hawaiian poi and fish
His trip sans charcoal and snow leis role

When God His Pot Had Stirred

when God could create
was caught riding a fast freight
which had been of date

according to latest scope
God said in pool was much poop
which threw us for a loop

when all my duties are done
God let me have fun in the sun
until sun tan has been done

when God would made ocean wide
on a surfboard wave did ride
slipped and sandpaper applied

when God was on the prowl
He would shoot a wise old owl
on face found a scowl

when God put on coat
He said you should vote in Shallotte
while we rocked the boat

Premium MemberSunny the Goblin

Sunny the goblin
Was a very joyful troll
With a blue surfboard and a stately pose
Down the beach he would stroll

Sunny the goblin
Is a happy bloke they say
He surfs well you know
Loves the seaside so
He will live here one day

He built a shack right on the beach
He built it on sturdy ground
No dinner he had a *paddle pop instead
And began to dance around.

Oh Sunny the Goblin
Was sun tanned as could be
And the people say
He could surf all day
Just the same as *Midge Farrelly

Oh Sunny the goblin
Knew the surf was up that day
So he said lets do some surfing in the sun
So they surfed all the day

Down to the surf shop
With a surfboard in his hand
Buying gear to wear
New T-shirts everywhere
This place was surf gear land

He bought new board shorts for a pound
And a new summer top
He could have bought lots more
But they were closing the shop

Hmm Sunny the Goblin
Had to hurry on his way
With a little sigh he waved goodbye
Great shopping here today

Thumpety, thump thump, thumpety, thump thump
The sand's so hot it glows!
Thumpety, thump thump, thumpety, thump thump
Sunny carries his board running on his toes.!

Primadonna

She spilled porridge down her tutu
As she drank her mug of wine
Sank it in just three swallows
And then she wanted mine

She wore a pair of dirty ballet shoes
Practised plies down the stairs
Played the prima ballerina
With her ill judged airs

She caught a plane to Greenland
Because she though it nice
To drink her sloe gin
With fresh frozen ice

The very very last time that I saw her
She was doing long handstands
Riding naked on a surfboard
Off of Van Diemens land

I thoroughly cleaned and aired my house
Changed every lock on every door
Hoped she got the right message
Don’t come round any more

Sometimes I thought I might miss her
Bur then I quickly shook my head
Switched on the television
To watch a soap instead

She spilled porridge down her tutu
As she drank her mug of wine
Sank it in just three swallows
And then she wanted mine

Premium MemberDogs On Vacation

dogs on vacation filling up the beach with warm barks
dobermans, german shepherds, prissy poodles that cause sparks
husky and rottweiler are sharing a purple lounge chair in the sun
excited corgis begin a volley ball game; this is all kinds of fun!

bulldogs and blue heelers, tripping around in the moist sand.
perky dogs with fluffy tails that are wildly frenzied and fanned.
chihuahuas and yorkies and there is a beagle with a howl.
this would not be the place for a kitten or fowl.

let’s vacation on down to the Vermosa beach
and drink some cold water with slight taste of peach
here comes a striped surfboard and a jet ski too
unhappy mailmen fall from the sky, out of the blue

Learner Surfer
I am training myself to surfboard
Practicing on my ironing board
For I'm no loser
And the best mover
Shall win a trophy surfer award.

So I've ironed my best underwear
My motto is to always prepare
If I have a fall
I will not bare all
And my assets won't feel whiffs of air.

Crazy chick half out of her gourd,
chose to surf the ironing board,
hair curlers wound up,
tube ride earns gold cup,
resolving laugh as she gets floored.

(small revision made line two to make all syllables equal for lines 1, 2 and 5)

A sweet homemaker named Shelly Gorde

with her laundry and cleaning was bored.

She imagined a beach

with a sea within reach.

Rode her ironing board like surfboard.

The Donkeys

The Blackpool donkeys have given up,
they have boarded jumbo jets
as emotional support animals.

Once they used to plod between
the Blackpool piers
half a mile up, half a mile back,
day after day,
carrying whooping kids and adults
as they heavily jogged along;
fat thighs clapping sore ribs.

In a dulled daydream the donkeys moved
with downcast eyes,
backs spavined from gleeful bums and knees.
When they could carry no more -
they were trucked away
to be neglected unto death.

Now the donkeys,
when not flying business class,
surfboard in Hawaii,
their Bermuda shorts billow
as if tailored for four-legs.

Those that once rode them
on that uncultured English beach,
now take river cruises
to the more refined European cities
never wishing to see a donkey,

but if they should come across one
I hope that for a moment
they feel a knobby spine
again bruising those broad buttocks.

The Donkeys

The Blackpool donkeys have given up:
they have boarded passenger jets -
to be emotional support animals.

Once they used to plod from Blackpool pier
half a mile up, half a mile back,
day after day,
carrying kids and plump matrons.

In a dull daydream the donkeys moved
with downcast eyes,
plodding until exhausted.

Now the donkeys have retired,
when not flying
they surfboard on Hawaiian waves.
their Bermuda shorts billow,
tailored as they are for four-legs.

Those that once rode them
on that uncultured British beach,
now take river cruises
to the more refined European cities
and hardly now ever see a donkey,

but if they do
I hope that for a moment
they feel a knobbly donkey spine
roughly slapping their
tender time-worn *******’s.

Premium MemberThanks For the Date But

If I had a surfboard
I would whack you on the head.
I’d smack you and crack you until you are dead.
But since I don’t
I will say “Thank you for the hamburger.
Please do not ask me out for date number two.”
