And the Beat Moved On

What happened to the old ‘Do-wop’
          piano triplets and ‘bop-she-bop’

      Romantic ballads juke-box kissed
disco nights now wrapped in mist

      Brian Wilson’s surfboard gone
          Liverpool mopheads no more spawned...

New heartthrobs soar, then fade away ~
          Beethoven rolled over yesterday

Those were the days my friend. I was born in 1960... 70's were my favorite years...

Interesting. I was born in the 1950's, and 50's pop music, for the most part, is my favorite. Give me Jerry Lee Lewis, Nat King Cole, Richie Valens, Rick Nelson, et al., and you can have the British 60's and the Zeppelined 70's... though when it comes to country music, I'll take the Willie Nelson of the '80's and 90's. ~ Different Strokes.

Me, too. The 50's and very early 60's are my favorite retro period. Thanks, gw

Yep, wish you were a neighbor. I still have a full set of drums...but no peer neighbors left to jam with. All their beats having moved on.

Well, Chicago's not too far from anywhere --- except Paradise. ~ Phil Collins

Hi Gershon, I often think of the music mainly of the 60's. My late husband was born in 1960, and he was a big Beetles fan. I remember my mother in her 30's with her golden beehive hairdo. So much unrest in the U.S. especially with the tragedy of the Vietnam War, but I will always fondly remember the music. Great writing in this poem. Shalom!

Yeah, the music was pretty good. Most all else that rolled across or screens was anarchy and chaos, however. Kind of like America under Biden... ~ gw
