in summers midst
it's heat and withering style
makes me dream cool nights
sun along coastline
feathered friends caught up in breathe
fantastic car ride
Summertime in the tropics
my favorite season of the year
no more school, no more chores
just temperatures knocking ninety degrees
sun rays and liquid sunshine
riding the pores of my skin
splashed in Coppertone oil
and a cone of coconut ice cream
melting my gums
while sitting on a dry towel
on a tropical beach whose currents
are shouting out my name in thin air
picking up a twig to draw my name
on the coral encrusted sand dunes
Is this smile on my face,
Company for my tears of joy?
Thought it was rain beating down on my shoelace.
Memories washing my cheeks.
“Ahoy”,
They sing,
As the voyage continues beyond my place.
I might linger a while longer,
In case anyone sees my pearly gates.
Wide and berthing,
Today was a blessing,
No reason other than a random act of grace.
Complex emotions,
Some days are random attacks of grey.
I feared the summertime sadness,
But maybe spring could remind me,
Not everyday's blue.
Happy memories distract me from summertime,
And from you.

bass are jumpin'
and the cypress grow high
no your daddy ain't rich
but your ma's not bad-lookin'
so fish a little bayou
won't you try
some of these evenings
they're gonna rise up flyin'
and they'll spread their wings
as pelicans take to the sky
but 'til next mornin'
there ain't no one can charm you
like Acadians or Cajun standin' by

summer, the season
of love and celebration
with loved ones and friends,
enjoying their company
to cherish and remember
the fun memories
under the warmth of the sun,
cooled by summer breeze
pleading petals play gently in the sun
whispering joy across the sticky skin
summertime blessings cannot be outdone
however, autumn is her next of kin
praying roses and melancholic buds
remembering our heart’s tender healing
hanging in timeless ache of fair redbuds
season’s bliss lifts shadows who’re concealing
promising the night stars, moon and fireflies
rousing such beauty the skies come to life
only God can breathe this splendor its whys
summer’s glory comes ‘round despite all strife
birdsong and melodies rich kindness flow
sunshine leaves its touch as an afterglow
Summer dazed in — it's dancing time!
Fred buffed his boots to dazzle-shine.
With a leap and a spin,
He clicked heels with a bin,
Rattling pigeons rapping in line.
Summer stares, graceful
as the quiet chirps
birdsong, let’s sing along…
joy unfolding, on wings
listening for His voice
in the heart, the soul, anyplace
growing old, while the summer
restores the heart, the soul
breaking out in sweats of golden
sunlight, bursting from the heat
melodies so sweet…
gently playing against the ache
of a silent knowing,
His love unfolding, like a distant
star, reflecting all the wonder
the wonderful in His call…
calling us all, to believe
to see the music in the leaf
to see the dusty melodies
beyond the grief…
the seeds of hope He’s planting
between the darkness and the need
to be the light He shines through each
heart who believes, He is
the music, the notes of grace
the peace that is everlasting, forever
praising, with each fading prayer…
like the birds, on wings
instead of harps, singing melodies
of love that will forever pour from the heart
love that will always protect me
love that will never forget me…
the music in the song, He’s always – eternally – so I’ll sing along
