You can see, but you don’t care
You look past the misery in my eyes and stare at my canvas face, a door closed forever
My thoughts locked inside and yours on the counter
I thought maybe one day you would open that door and pour into me
I pound at the walls of flesh, I scream, but still
Your silence smothers me, my wounds bleed forever, never to be covered
You can see, but you don’t see me
What you see isn’t what you get, but you wouldn’t know, you’d just forget
I’m not that blank canvas, I’m more, open that door and see
See me
You can’t
You couldn’t
Even if you stared forever

Good days can be found if we
Open up our eyes and see
The beauty we all can find
When we leave troubles behind
In the past and move forward
Leading all future days toward
Happiness lit up with light
That is sunny and so bright
Walk down a road filled up with smiles
Stretching for miles and miles
Take one step after another
Stomping out the bad that smothers
The brightness from shining through
Blocking happiness from you

october brushed by
in the midst of an october sunrise
bearing splashes of colors beyond description
like a thick acrylic paint mixture
crimson with cadmium yellow
thrown…scattered like seed…by the hand of god
morning unfolds like a delicate rose
light crawls like aching fingers
touching soft lips that moisten the sands,
retreating, sliding like two bodies too close
to be parted, moving slowly, one advancing-
retreating, wave at a time.
the water returns—
–to the water
the sand to the sand
and yet the light to darkness
i’m sinking beneath the surface of my soul
void of color, gray on gray on gray
as a jacket of black smothers me
suffocating me
gripping my heart
until i see evil being squeezed out
jealousy is green, greed is yellow
hatred is black and deceit is red
until at last
god has taken the ugliness of my heart
squeezed my evil
and fashioned a brand new color
for tomorrow’s rainbow
all get one
just one
and you will remember yours

Night creeps into midday,
enters the dawn and lingers,
it arrives too early on a summer evening.
This night-light is moonless,
it surrounds you as you drive
to a gravesite, or as you lay
in a clinically white mausoleum
too close to a fraying thread of life.
It slides under a thought, smothers it,
as you reach for a dark-red wine
a glass saturated with nocturnal memories.
This light I speak of
speaks also for every word
that has sunk too deeply
in the shadows of the mind
It has its own sky,
and it is we who create its atmosphere.

Focusing on my self; no other
filtered out all negative feelings
cut ties with deceptive dealings
home is calling so don't bother
Feeling things that make no sense
a little of revenge, guilt, anger, fuss
a lot of love, faith, truth, and trust
Thinking of things conjuring defense
Eliminate thoughts of all others
took for granted with misjudgment
challenging my truth with argument
now stuck in shame that smothers
No allies in this deceptive outer world
most live for bribes lies no alibis
all I truly hear is loud curdling cries
devastated by the truth, only can hurl
Let this be a lesson to trust only self
trust your own feeling and knowing
forgiveness and healing for growing
always room to help improve oneself
Not understanding my role in your life
no longer needed spoken or explained
hate jealousy greed no longer retained
dismantling what The Divine calls strife
Completes my assignments with grace
highs lows many death and rebirth
bring back LOVE to beautiful Earth
LOVE is home there's no other place

Tears, they flow as giddy gushing streams,
and meddle with our facile sense of joy,
seamlessly they interface cod emotions,
whirlpool laughter smothers trite elation,
smirking bogus rivulet, weeping willow branch,
to that toxic ocean known as hollow mirth

Looking for a new way,
To inspire my day.
Dropping what I love,
Chasing my joy away.
Trying to change ways,
And the part I play.
To reflect,
A better aspect,
Of Myself.
Tearing it off,
Putting it on the shelf.
Seeking discipline,
To complete my mission.
So you will listen,
And See,
Just how happy,
It made me,
To ride crazy waves.
Inside my mind,
Bringing me so high,
Crashing down to cry.
Retrying,
Another ride.
I Should've Died.
Instead,
An Everyday battle,
Goes on in my Head,
Chasing away the Joy.
Losing my hold,
As Life grew old,
Doing all I was told.
Now chasing my Joy,
Like It's a Toy.
To be played with,
To be Owned,
Like I have no control.
Like a Material,
Coating my Soul.
Letting Go,
I see no colors.
Hiding beneath cover,
Hoping Life Smothers,
The pain and sorrows.
Chase away today,
I don't want Tomorrow,
I want to stop right now,
And wait for my JOY to grow.

bedazzled by jewels
beguiled by the gem of you~
diamond eternal
as fake gold duals
alloys mix unbanding two~
with flames infernal
tears drowning in pools
blinders tunnel, love eschews~
so notes my journal
Love is
Surrounded by Monarch butterflies,
on migration
A tingling in your gut
does not defy
A warmness flutters inside
When flowers perfume
When you are near
You feel the same, I shall assume
Love hurts
When rubies now rhinestones,
dullen, sullen
Diamonds now glass,
cutting deep
Pollen smothers,
I swallow my sorrows
My bleeding heart
Let’s stay together
Dowse the drought
Better a diamond with a flaw
than a pebble without

Done well,
another’s
terse form to dwell
on druthers.
Oh so short and sweet,
(too long just smothers)
concise, complete,
it casts the briefest spell.

The obscenely convincing,
have arrived in their stealth mobiles.
We are made to unmake-belief,
to regurgitate Saran wrapped words.
Wide-eyed we watch the spreading creep
of windowless thought-factories.
Druids rage for the loss of their tongues.
Magic dragons puff obesely
and cannot now climb their spines.
Combative batmen tussle
with spitting cats.
It all makes no-sense, and yet
we know the fantasy is built
on self-destructing concrete,
we see now how red lipstick
smothers us with a smirk
in the dark.
Too late to run for cover.
Even as we slumber
the mother of all bombs
gives birth to yet more
pre-packaged fictions.

September has mottled the forest maples.
South of here, zombie cicadas
chafe heated thighs,
but North of Tippecanoe
Shawnee trails lead into autumn.
We take photographs,
but the green still smothers
scattered red and yellow threads.
You touch a mossy tree trunk,
as if sensing the smoldering fuse
that will soon burn stale air
into golden sparks - a fire
that will paint from the inside out.
Too early, she says.
We head back down I-75,
where summer still consumes
the glut and vapor
of unemptied trash cans.

I am the Bagel...you are the whole of my life
I am the pickle... you are the sweet to my sour
I am the butter... you spread happiness all over me
I am the cheese... your softness smothers me
I am the meat ... you are tender
I am the sandwich... you are the wrapper
that keeps me warm, covers me, keeps me safe.

Grook – 8/17-24
When you least expect it, a miracle pops up and taps you on the shoulder – Quote by Poet
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sudden Wonder
Days roll by in dull apparitions
Memories, like ghosts, whisper of silence
When time runs out of daylight
And vacant stars, like empty minutes,
Leave hand shadows on blank pages
Of hopeless tattered tinsel;
Spent moonlight vanishes at first light
Then grabs at the sleeve your serenity -
As darkness smothers the horizon
Sudden wonder consummates a miracle.
Dread descends in my heart, heaviness smothers the lands.
Saturated in darkness, smoky gray clouds boil by.
A raging Storm stomping up the dark stairs a'tromping.
Thundering foot falls wake me, my attention demands.
Painful, sharp blows hit with flashing forks of lightening.
Salty sweat sting welts.Ghost light behind my eyes; like brands.
Quickly over as begun, leaving this wet stillness.
Heaviness lifts, as my lungs and the close air expands.
Perhaps I will be the Storm…yes, one day I will try …
… Up the dark stairs a'tromping, a raging Storm stomping.
The drama ends, but now I hold vengeance in my hands.
