Sailing the seas on a lyrical sloop,
visiting pensmen in a metrical loop
with alternating laughs and sighs,
I smile and realize
the sun never sets on PoetrySoup.
In every time zone, in every land,
shining on each seashore's sand,
a seashell or a nautilus
sings to amuse or slaughter us,
from a poet, awake, pen in hand.
Well, she boiled up the water
in a construction worker’s can now:
seems she forgot all about the library
that she told her old man now:
and with the kettle boiling,
she’ll serve up some cups of Jiguan now -
and she’ll have fun, fun, fun
till her daddy takes the teapot away.
Went to a dance
looking for romance:
saw Barbara Ann,
but I left with JD Vance.
My buddies and me
are getting real well-known:
Zelensky met us
and he sold us a drone.
We came in on the Sloop John B,
Mbappe and me:
Around Nassau Town we did roam.
The beer was like pee:
I caught an STD:
I feel so broke up,
I wanna go home.
She’s giving me good vibrations
with quality lubrication.
I think they’re taking a notion
in Californ – eye – ay
to throw themselves in the ocean
before election day.
The options are gruesome,
as you’ll acknowledge when
it’s bushy-bushy-bon Newsom
or Orange Trump again.
I close my eyes on this Warm Summer Day
And slowly my mind is lead far away
Back to another time so long ago
And to melodies I remember so
The music of Surfin Safari to Surfin USA
There was no mistakin Brian’s talent had introduced a new
Music craze
Why there wasn’t anybody who didn’t take part in the songs, the cars, the Surfin, and the Girls
Especially the girl’s
Like the man said he wished they all could be California Girls
Why it was all summer long that they enjoyed all the fun fun fun
But don’t worry baby they always wandered back in their room until it was Time to catch a wave and once again they were sitting on top of the world
And now the time has come for brother Brian to join Dennis and Carl
All three united again
In the far distance one can hear music calling out like
A long lost friend
As those good vibrations gently fall from heaven on to the sea
Smiling down the three brothers see
In the far distance the Sloop John B
In Memory of Brian Douglas Wilson of the Beach Boys
If you don’t take your time,
If you never slow down the step by walking,
You’ll never see the sun
Lay his gold leaves on the tops of trees,
You won’t pay attention to the fox
Conversing with two horses in a field,
If you never slow down,
You’ll never know if a girl thinks of you,
You will never feel the dew
which inclines the daffodils and harmonious petals
you will crush the innocent snail on the purple road,
If you don’t take your time,
If you never slow down the step, while walking,
You will never see the fishing sloop working at sea
You will not hear the merle in the fig tree
Sketch twelve notes of a baroque cantata,
and worst of all, if you don’t slow down the pace,
You will never write poetry,
You will never fall in love with the countryside,
With the sea or pretty girls with breasts of pottery,
You will never become as smart as Walt Whitman.

When you sail a sloop in slop,
be prepared to stop, regroup;
time spent on the choppy seas
throws you for a loop, makes wobbly knees.

The Garden of Eden
Some people believe that the Garden of Eden
Was in Africa, Asia, Australia...not Sweden.
The presumed site of its location
Is assumed from the interpretation
Of which Good Book's being read…and who's doin' the readin'.
Noah
Noah's ark, neither yacht nor a sloop,
Was constructed to be one big animal coop.
On his crew It must have been a strain
That during forty days and nights of rain
To keep forking in fodder and scooping out poop.
It Ain't Necessarily So
Pious people are prone to become agitated
When agnostics assess their belief's overrated,
And the words that they're liable
To find in the Bible
By mere men were created, not divinely dictated.

far from wintry England
in a lazy temperate breach

Ahoy mates! We're going in our boat on a trip.
We're going to do the Great American Loop.
Soon we will be a blip.
We'll take lots of video clips.
We'll be joining a group.
Ahoy mates! We're going in our boat on a trip.
We're getting helpful tips.
Nah! We're not on a sloop.
Soon we'll be a blip
On our pleasure trip.
You want to know the scoop?
Ahoy mates! We're going in our boat on a trip.
We've checked our boat for drips.
Now we can have a grill cheese with soup.
Soon we'll be a blip.
Our boat is our workmanship
As we wave to people sitting on their back stoop.
Ahoy mates! We're going in our boat on a trip
Soon we will be a blip.
Limerick crochetés: Once Mid-East refugee hi-jacked plane
Once Mid-East refugee hijacked plane
At Heathrow Airport without much pain
Set course for Florida
Down Gulf Stream danced salsa
O’er Bermuda Triangle lost brain
Raised head in parallel universe
Where everybody spoke only in verse
Shakespeare just a mere page
At beck and call of Sage
Who rode on a flying-trapeze hearse
Walt Whitman why whipped hard ten times tight
For turning fine-tuned verse e’er so slight
Beat poets all sweat caned
Their howls and growls un-maned
Ginsberg last seen dropping out of sight
Harriet Monroe drowned in P-Soup
To lay P-Foundation nin.com poop
Rhyme and dine for a dime
At Multi-Verse win prime
Refugees now cross Atlantic in sloop
At P-Soup Port they re-fuel with port
Learn how to parse clichés sans rapport
Great poems like Hardy’s
Drivel from their panties
“America” refugees sing out!

Sunlight dances on dew.
A cock crows in the distance.
The faded scent of the sea
escorts my morning stroll.
As I pass the dock,
my step keeps time to the
gentle moan of a sloop in tether
and the island emerges.
The turquoise promise of infinite sky
beckons me
and I wonder what
will be of the day
A faint rumble of pots and pans
confirms my suspicion
of coffee and bacon
and draws me in.
I think,
This is Key West.
(On November 9, 1799 Napoleon Buonaparte
launched his coup d'etat in Paris. It made
him a dictator, and corrupted him beyond
salvation. 18 Brumaire was the date of the
coup, by the revolutionary calendar in use
at the time.)
As climbing greasy poles habitually goes,
this wasn't (one must say) exactly polished.
To be roughed-up – but by politicos!
Can't blame them: no-one likes to be abolished
(especially not these ego-bloated shysters!)
What else? Oh, in a paroxysm of rage,
in distant climes, eccentric Kapellmeisters
were gouging (scoring?) through a music page.
For all his smiling talk of ease and glee
(tomorrow), his eloquent implorings,
unfailingly, this moment always comes.
The pipes are always drowned by the drums.
and that sleek sloop named self-regard so sleazily
slips free of all that nurtured it – its moorings.
Elizabeth: squat river with cranes, tugs, wharfs abristle,
Its broad, deep-dredged breadth plied by warship and merchant mammoth,
Ships with haughty grandeur gliding along buoyed channel—
Lofty titans sneering down on collier, barge, sloop at sail
And, on fog-bound nights, soothing sleepers with moans baritone.

Sailing On A Sleek Sloop
We went sailing on a sleek sloop
Then had to stop for bowl of soup
When hungry both started to be
Boat slopped and got all over me
Sank according to latest scope.

What recently I had realized
Is that when you are traumatized
Things sticky soon do become
Heard calling of a distant drum
With her music was mesmerized.
Writing has become habit forming
So out of the room started storming
Thoughts of new homes started sharing
And prices were reluctantly comparing
Which one in will we have a house warming.
Went barn storming to find a house warming.
