Land Ho-Ku

dragons fly
burning fodder
land hoe.

sea gulls fly
over water
"Land Ho!"

pesky fly
dodging swatter
"Land! Ho!"

annoying fly

fly lands on my face
once is not enough twice now
annoys me greatly

she swiftly flies off
landing on the tv set
where is my swatter

Eye Knew It

Eye knew it

The dirty fly has compound eyes
It sees in all directions
A swatter swats it anyway
So much for eye protection

Summer Picnics Interrupted

Our picnic food draws pesky flies.
We each grab a swatter and rise
   to wipe out those devils,
   but those crafty rebels
escape. Then we don’t feel so wise.

The Fly Swatter

There was a man who loved to swat flies.

Even when landing on his wife's thighs.

He said. 'Sorry my dear,

But I don't really care

They're aiming towards your mince meat pies.'

Little Fly

Little fly
Buzzing from nose to bread
Do not try
To let my amusement shed
Attention
From blotter to the swatter
I'm too refined for such matter
The tension
Has no ice to preserve it here
Flies are gullible, and lizards everywhere
Handle better
Trivial matter.

Flyswatter Soup

Fly swatter soup. Yum. Yum.
My palette is smiling. Mm Mm….
A rare delicacy, found only in the Midwest
If you live across the road from a pig farmer.
Best eaten in July, when the flies are biting.
Stomached by only a few.
Yes, it is exactly as tasty as you think.
Can I count on you at six?
Bring a friend.

A Short Life

Around and around
buzzing
churrng in the sky
Darting here, there
eluding hands, eyes
fluttering
going everywhere
Hovering as a cloud
invited nowhere
Just an insect
killing time
looking for an arm
Meals for babes
nourishment wine
Options plenty
Pooping time
Quickly I see
running near me
splat, curse that swatter that killed me

Just a Big Green Fly

Just a Big Green Fly

I’m a big green fly on your kitchen wall;
I try to hide, I can, I won’t fall.
I see your croissant, make a note to myself,
The cook kissing the maid, will she tell?

You see me on the light, when it’s time to go,
Grab the fly swatter, I’m a flyer, not slow,
Don’t blame me, your secrets I keep,
Just a big green fly, so still while you sleep.

Only Female Mosquitoes Bite, the Male Ones Just Say Hello

a tip of the hat
a polite nod
a hail caesar
a handshake
a slouch
a tugging of the forelock
a proposing of a toast
a salutation sandwich
a salaam
a bow
a cheek-to-cheek contact
a kiss on the bugle
a kowtow
a wave
a voicemail
a whatsapp
a geachte heer followed by a comma
a prayer

it's all very gracious and well mannered
but for god's sake get the swatter

Death of a Fly

There is a fly in this house
It can buzz and shout
Flies so fast can't swat nor douse

Buzz around my freshly made coffee
Buzz buzz fast as a wink
Buzz buzz over by the sink

Buzz, swirl over my coffee
Land on the edge softie
Can't stand this fly nope

Go get the fly swatter
Got to get rid of this bugger
Flap, flap right in my freshly made coffee

Giant Needle

Why are you so scary my friend?
You look like a giant needle!
Stick in my body and suck my blood.
You are a vampire you can fly,
When i sleep you always fly in my ears.
Could you just disappear for 8 hours to let me have a good sleep?
Please never come back!
Get away from me!
I will use electric mosquito swatter.
Kill you all!
Pa!Pa!Pa!Pa!
My magic will tear you apart!

Swat

A fly flies in;
You want him out.
That's what a swatter's
All about.

You hope he lands
Where you can reach.
(Some spots have rules
You should not breach.)

Like on a vase
Or someone's head.
You need a wall
Or door instead.

And then you aim
With what you've got.
If luck is yours,
You've made the shot.

The fly falls down
Upon the floor
And then your swatter
Waits for more.

Bug Eyes

   The fly swatter is out,
   Bugs are all about.
   How could that be,
   What I see?

   Has many legs.
   Not a spider,
   Or a fly.
But something fanciful on the eye!

   Swatted quick to the ground,
   SMASHED FLAT!
   Legs waving all around.
"You killed my lashes", she wailed!

   Carefully,
   I slunk on by.
   Didn't realize,
It was it was part of her eye!

John Doe

The chase after door was ajar. From window to window, that far. The buzz in my ear, The fly needs to fear. The whiz of my swatter on par. “I’m hit,” says the fly, out of steam. Is it truly dead or a scheme? Over and over… its eyes ice over. I suck up the fly with air stream. Dear Dad, you’ll be happy to know the fly you let in, had to go The show he put on - Its buzz, it is gone. It's buried in the bag - a John Doe.

A Fly

The windows have been shut for days
So I cannot begin
To comprehend exactly how
A fly has gotten in.

The A/C’s working overtime
To counteract the heat
And though we’ve ventured out at times,
We beat a fast retreat.

It’s possible, I guess, that fly
Did hitchhike on our clothes
Or maybe in a shopping bag
Or someplace no one knows.

No matter how he made it in,
The next time he is sighted,
The swatter will be on the move,
‘Cause he was not invited!

Yesterday

I installed a “cat door”
The mice moved out

I changed the door locks
The kids climbed in the window

I decided to try a vegan diet
Now I have to find out what to use for bait
And go hunting

I bought my dog another pair of 9 inch red heels

The Parrot looked at me and mumbled “W T F”

She said she was tired of men looking at her
I bought her a fly swatter

I left my golf clubs in the handicap parking space

I took the bus. I made it eight blocks before they caught me
