on my forearms is peeling off, bruises
appear on my biceps, a red gash
gashes across the front of my shoulder, my calves
tighten, my thumb joint
makes it painful to write, I can’t really explain
what’s wrong with the side of my neck

In the sweet dusk of the yum yum tree we sat on a branch
Leopard gave me a slight stare, not to scare you, he said.
I laughed; we had been friends for a long time, I was not afraid.
Our friendship was worth more to him than a few bites of meat.
I would taste horrible, I told him. My flesh is sunburned.
Not your tummy, he told me.

To the ocean’s salt
Laughter is heard

as many as I an carry
hot from the car
into the bed

what do they dream
smiling
of the waves
 crabs
or fireworks
bundled in sweatshirts by the bonfire
built by dad uncle grandpa
as stars explode over
nestled two by two with dad
big arms to hold them at the end of the day
strong chest to keep them safe
sleep
low voices, gentle touches
home...

the playground of gray
six feet deep away
is a pleasant stay

I have my rocking horse
a sunburned metal toy
burns my feet -- anyway
my eyes are tears today

There's a noise across
the fine lined trees
me thinks -- adults
arguing with death's love

I sway today in gray
fixed feet -- above
tis a pleasant blue-sky
Adults are dead children

Casting cool shadows
On heated concrete

The playful breeze blowing,
Catches foam cascades,
And tossing wild mists,
Crashes raw delight

The fountain rushes forth,

Water on water,
Pelting stony slabs
With falling force

Echoing in tune,
Splash-patter footsteps
Sprint a rippled run,
Drowning the day with
Saturated sound....

To adorn the stripped and thirsty trees 
With garnet jewels and gowns of silken rain
Falling on split lips, filling a chasm of stunted seedlings

To exult its bohemian beauty, its tapestry
Of unbridled orange, of vicarious red
In vibrant mockery of three months
Of mandatory merriment, until the
Sunburned soul seeks impetus of aloe breezes
To heal the cracks of indolence.
