Remember Sapphire September
Warm, cornflower blue
September skies, escorting
In the beginning
Of pleasant cool, wet, autumn
Shortening colorful days.

A frog who could dance up a jig
Went to Nashville to make it big
She set out for the disco
Ended up in some Crisco
Seems it wasn’t that type of gig...

When Summer Turns Into Autumn
We bless this seasons abundant harvest
As we await pending shortening days
Soon the heavens shall grace
Wet days shall soon show their display
For our pasts will soon be relived
When skeletal arms start shivering
Icy fingers they're sure to become
Hoar frost, light snow, begins lingering

The Last Days
The words came slashing
Shortening the towering statue
With blows after blows
visible dents were made
To these lifetime stones
Strengthened with sweat and stress
Now crumbling from the swirling saliva
Raging from each forming words
Words from decades past
unsteadily revealing the weakened stones
embed within...

I do not know?
Zen Mode
knowing there are no ‘others’
compassion has but one aim
that all forms at least oscillate
between ignorance and wisdom
shortening the time intervals
that imagined boundaries blur
and sense of separation ends
to awake within the dream
and then remain thus flicker free
as God’s sublime luminescence

Seasonal
When earths abundant harvest, nature displays.
Then farmers will face, ever shortening days.
As wet days of summer, change to shivering chills.
Swirling light snow, veils those far distant hills.
With white hoar frost silvering, autumns dead leaves.
And long icy fingers, crystallizing on eaves.

The Medicinal Harvest
Shortening daylight
As summer turns fall
To harvest for winter
Gathering all
That is needed in darkness
As nights draw in
Preserving the summer
And the magic within.
Picking the jewels
Leaf, flower and berry
Mint and hawthorn
Hip and Rosemary.
Natures secrets
Medicine within
I start my harvest
Let the healing begin....

Hope's Dream
Harvest abundant,
but then came shortening nights,
and Hope dreamed that she lay shivering,
stretching icy fingers
into the hoar-frost by her bed,
dreading the soon to be wet days
and light snow imminent.

Rooting For 8 To 5
As a child I laid on grass evergreen
With tresses expanding across vibrancy of nourished hills.
But it was there my body decayed prematurely
With stabbed chest, ashen air shortening life’s stages;
Now, men beg for lost comfort— prayers unanswered.

Autumn's Gift
On wet days, shivering,
we greet late fall,
whose shortening days
bring with icy fingers
hoar frost on the fields at dawn.
Some time before the first light snow,
we take pause, and with loved ones recall -
Autumn’s gift is an abundant harvest.

Alone
A lone winter wind chills a lone Yorkshire lady
while alone she retires for the day
And a lone fire warms her but alone it does little
to relieve the lonesome feeling as she lay
But alone is not so lonely while alone she knows her lover
lies alone as he awakens and can say
Alone we are together and alone is shortening ever
and alone we soon will send upon its way...

O Moon Tell Me
O' Full moon tell me
The secret of your growing and shortening
And appearing at night time?
Moon Said; I am shy to face my love
in bright and thousand eye lights
I grow when my lover is happy with me
And I become weak and start shrinking
When my lover is upset and this happens
Quite frequently and it increases our love
And the urge to meet again increases respect....

Autumn Sets In
Autumn sets in
Forgotten are the hot,
humid and wet days,
as autumn has reached,
Shivering icy fingers,
hoarfrost consolidates at my window sill,
Early sunset and shortening of days,
light snow sets in spirits,
Champing at the bit
enthusiastic children,
This year sure will sight
an abundant frost on Christmas trees !

Shortened Hope
No worries they uttered
as the times streams by
The people don yari
Yes, they are irate
Everything don para
Plenty things don spoil
Yet they are still visionary
envisioning the now
to the coming years
Even as we are laden
with more burdens
reversing our journey
shortening our hopes
as we now live life
in bits and pieces

Biscuits
Biscuits
Biscuits in the oven,
Biscuits in the pan.
Gravy in the skillet,
Shortening in a can.
Good old Southern Breakfast,
Ham and bacon too.
Pancakes on the platter.
What things can Momma do?
Orange juice fresh from squeezing;
Coffee in the pot.
Some like cream and sugar;
Some just like it hot.
Love is in the oven;
Love is in the pan.
Your Momma sure does love you,
As only Momma's can....

Autumn Shift
Transition from summer to Autumn begins with shortening nights.
As autumn approaches, is abundant harvest from diverse fruits
and vegetables.
Wet days are less frequent.
Shivering and icy fingers are one
the most unmistakable signs of beginning of Autumn.
Hoar frost is seen in leaves and outside objects.
Light snow is the starting of Autumn.

A Life Recovered
A life recovered from Stygian depths
tainted by the horrors of dark abyss.
He falters as he takes one thousand steps,
a life recovered.
Pale sunlight stippling through with warming bliss,
luminescence he warily accepts,
burning too brightly after his darkness.
There is a shortening of his sharp breaths
as stark reality he soon percepts
that forces him from his grim regrets,
a life recovered....

Short Which Short For Contest
Do you mean short as in not tall
Maybe short as in bad tempered
How about shortening for best shortbread overall
Or taking a short-cut for going unhampered
Short-hand, for taking notes at speed
Short lived as in not long to last
Short stop and short slip in sporting games you need
To stop short is what I intend to do so hold fast
So many short’s to write about, If I do them all, will definitely not be short.

Love Is Like Flowers, Melodies, Fragrances and Bridges
Flowers blossom into a world they don’t know
They bring color to the wild and beauty to our homes
Melodies play and overcome the silence of sorrow
They bring sweetness to words and memory to songs
Fragrances adorn the air with invisibility that glows
They lighten our breathe, with every air we draw
Bridges shortening distances to people we don’t know
They yield acceptance of the backgrounds we come from
Love is like flowers, melodies, fragrances and bridges...

Long Days Done
Long Days Done
29/03/2018
Another season now done,
The warm recedes from the sun.
I’ll miss my beach time fun,
Suntanning and going for a run.
A shortening of days has begun,
And we turn our clocks back at One.
That first dark cool morning can stun,
It’s a blessing of good things to come.
Birds n bees buzz to a different drum,
Looking to find their own special one.
Finding true love feels like Lotto won,
I won and my beauty does it with aplomb....

Selfish Sinner--
Why must we be sinners
When we were born winners
Thousands year-old grand father Adam
Listened to his wife Eve
And then and only then
His wife asked him to partake
Of the fruits
Forbidden as they were
God said no
Serpent beguil Eve Adam's wife
Little did they know shortening of theirs and our lives
Three score ten
It took our life cycle down to this
When we were physical suppose to live forever
Forever in the flesh?.
Once winning, now we're selfish sinners
Part. 1....

Shortening
So often when I write a poem
And wait for a critique,
My husband, who’s my audience,
Believes it needs a tweak.
That last verse isn’t needed –
It’s a summary, you know.
Of course I do, but that way
It’s tied up, complete with bow.
I read the piece again, his way,
And often, he’s correct.
A shorter version would provide
The ending you’d expect.
But there are times I disagree
And keep the extra verse,
Which I think makes it better
(Though my husband thinks it’s worse)....
