Undesired Rain

Rain on rooftop gently pelts and slowly drips;
beneath the gust-battered brenches owls complain...
cooing and lamenting not to make it stay,
unless it tapers.

All of a Sudden . . .

The sound of thunder grows louder each second
the tremor, the vibration inanimate yet like a weapon
Softly the rain pelts down on me
Setting the swollen clouds free . . .

Gimme Shelter

A strong hurricane blows across the beach

My umbrella turns inside-out; I screech!

     Broadcasting from a cell phone

Rain pelts and there’s no tone

For the first time I’m at a loss for speech

Early Spring Rain

early spring rain

       pelts a cherry tree...

           dousing young blossoms

colored rainbow...

       sparks petals' hues

          with fragrant mist

Anything Esle

ANYTHING ESLE
I love my Mom more than anything else
Life is just a fierce terrible battle that people pelts
Don't we escape with our own belts
Let's focus on the bright side that prevails

Acrostic of "nature"

Natural wonders still undiscovered
Astonishing sites of beauty
Too beautiful to destroy as of some are doing right now
Unreal caves of crystals and color
Residents of the wonderous animal kingdom
Exotic animals of silver pelts and blazing colors

Spring

Our spirits fly free
While the trees whisper
The bright sun calls out
And warms to the core
Rain pelts the petals

Birds find their songs
Earth tilts her face
Magic finds her
And us as well

It glimmers
In the soul
All around

Feel it
Live it

Putting On Airs

The woman wore her faux fox hat with an air of elegance and pride
I am used to real furs, my daddy is a dealer, and he shows me each hide
She acts with a touch of snobbery, which I think is totally amusing
If she could see animals turned into pelts, her vanity would be confusing.

Hills and Hollers

Hills And Hollers.
Old Dog Collars.
Is All He Has, From His Youth.
Pelts From Some Skunk.
Rusted Farm Trucks.
That's All He Sees, In His View.

Old Cream Can, At The End Of The Drive,
That Holds His Mail Box.
Once In A While, Someone Will Stop By,
To Ask About, His Ole Pet Fox.

Flip-Flops

Plain droplets plink downward risk-free.
Rain, that bristles on panes, weighty.
Rip-roaring, soaring, not boring,
as wind assists an outpouring.
Angled and claustrophobic dance.
Can’t see the light; cars take a stance.
Sky, a blue-gray, wiper flip-flops.
Shy, the soft pelts of ho-hum drops.

Today

Today is no different than a thousand yesterdays.
The rain pelts hard in my face, pounds on my head,
When I bring sunshine it calls forth a storm,
Perhaps there have been days of sweetness
but no, the storm becomes the norm.
I have lost friends.
Left alone in disgust.
It is a solitary confinement of sorts.

To the Sea

Waiting out the summer storm
Wind whipping the trees
Down pour of rain pelts the truck
Bounces, tumbles free

Short-lived episode of rain
Freed water races down
Searches for lowest places
On its journey bound

To the sea, to the sea, see
Its travel complete
A never ending cycle
Flowing to rhythmn's beat

Pride

An old lion limps,
bones crumbling with each step.

Hyenas must kill him.
The once strong cannot remain
to infirm the thriving.

Antelope reflexively run
from hair-triggering scents.

A young pride hunts;
death lives at ease with life.
Fawns and calves are born
into needy mouths.

Windblown dust scatters scraps
of sun-clawed pelts.

mad as a hatter

Mad as a hatter is a phrase that came naturally about
In the eighteen hundreds hatmakers were going insane
Using mercuric nitrate, which removed skin from pelts
A poison that had them acting funny, going postal
Another phrase that came along much later
In deference to postal workers who went insane
From the mundane repetitiveness of their jobs.

Hedgerows

Buttercup,daisy and cowslip
Together mix in fellowship;
Swaying pelts of grasses fine
Bask in Spring sunshine.

Purple vetch,ribwort plaintain
Jostle lush clover in English rain;
Scalious,burnets protude,
Butterflies gorge their pollen food.

Hawthorn dense and tough
Amidst sweet scented woodruff;
In rambled briar sprawl
Prickly and wandering tall.

Ambulance

Glass
Pelts my face
Like sharp, cold snow

Blood
Oozes from my skin
Curdling as frozen wind touches my skin

Muscles
Torn and shredded
Tried to save myself from hell

Bones
Cold to the marrow
Bitter winter makes them jump

Nerves
Quivering with adrenaline
Twitching, shaking with pain

Death
Glares at me
I glare right back, walking away,
a smirk on my face.

One

I’d gladly take
one verse
ill written
Than a tome
explicit
with words
unfelt

I’d gladly take
one moon
still distant
Than a sunrise
hidden
by rain
that pelts

I’d gladly take
one real
good tiding
Than a score
of praises
that slap
my back

I’d gladly take
one heart
on fire
Than a million
minds
no souls
— attached

Pain

Every drop of rain
Pelts My Body causing pain
I'm not sure I can endure
How is it that you're so sure?

The time we have, let's make it last.
And to what's left of Love hold fast
Because what we have is only once in a lifetime
To let it slip away would be a crime

Today the pain means I can't dance
But I still want to give love another chance
So I will Believe In Hope
The rain cannot cause me to mope.

Romance Novel

A snow bound silence descends now
upon my hallowed home,
the traffic's gone, the streets unplowed
and I'm engrossed in tomes.

A ribald tale of myst'ry roils
the knights have charged the breech
the bard sings tall tales of old
of maiden's love's unleashed.

The pendants mark the battles course
as Saxons face the Celts
unarmored men fought Saxon's, Norse
in naught but paint and pelts.

And so it was, and so it is
as men live or die for a kiss.

Slipping

Slipping slowly into the void No one's fault The consequence of years spent in silence The distance of unspoken secrets You know me...don't you...know me? Rain pelts the windows The roof My eyes Falling into indifference Headlong without a net The reality of a fire growing cold The fleeting moments of glowing embers You love me...don't you...love me? The dark creeping across the grass The windows My heart

Words Dive Bomb Me

Words dive bombed my hands and my feet
Pelting me like missiles.
Needles going into my pores.
I screamed.
I could not fend them off.
It felt like acupuncture on speed.

The words were scary and mean
Decidedly determined to hurt, horrify and humiliate me
I was putty in their perfect, putrid, pelts.
I begged for mercy.
They made me pick up a pen.
They forced me to write.
Ouch! One just zinged my ear.
Apparently I have not satisfied them yet….

Death Bed

An old house, ancient in its fearsome style Where lightning flashes and thunder pelts near The house’s creepiness can be seen for miles In front of the building is a dark seer Casting powers that cause a lot of fear A witch flies deep in the sky overhead Looking for lost victims to kill them dead Moon shines above to cast eerie shadows Glowing on those lying on a death bed The scary scene brings fear like no-one knows
