Three black angus cows knee-deep in cool lake
Two on bank look longingly
Egret stands on one's back
Down Under when one can not sleep
One busies one's self counting sheep
Snooze you lose
Ewes your muse
Aussie poets are now knee-deep
Old gray heron
wades knee deep
along ponds edge.
Feeding.
Fiery reflections dance
across still waters.
Bass leaps through
sunset.
Man's understanding;
A knee-deep pond is
While
God's wisdom;
A fathomless sea!

Stunned
as soon as I sleep
awakened by a loud bang
real or imagined
Zapped
bright light woke me up
to lots of prayers, knee deep -
5 a.m. vigil
sunshine, space, space to write. above these three, praying right away to write this all away. darkness, limbo, blank pages, blank spaces. I’ll write anyway - right away.
JANUARY
Birds have gone -
Escaped the shroud -
Picked clean every berry.
No warmth from autumn sun,
Drifting wind and thick cloud,
Soon I’ll be knee-deep in January.
Whatever you do don't fall asleep*
Don't take that leap
Into the deep
You don't know what you'll reap
When you're knee-deep
In the underkeep
*From A Nightmare on Elm Street
A young boy,
Maybe 14,
Stands proud and smiling,
Knee deep in water,
After his first time swimming across
The river rapids.
I miss the days
When such small things
Were such enormous adventures.
Little Bo Peep, taxed out of her sheep
How many does Big Oh need to keep?
Leading them about
With rhetorical shout
Over pomp and circumstance knee deep

Hue and cry roadmap
totem sign or lachrymose
knee-deep self compass
wading bird of psychic lull
being is a misty quest
that oblong pointer centred
on some phantom bridge

Knee deep in surf
The water clung to her
Changing silk gown
To wrinkled shiny skin
Never had I envied ocean water so
But then t'was I who'd let her go
Drowning in green eyes
With fear of clinging ties
Holding me back
Knee deep into the snow
In the snow, knee deep, we did go
A trail in the snow we did leave
In the snow on Christmas eve
A trail in the snow with my beautiful beau

A light is seen some distance away
Trudging knee deep I’m anything but warm
Hoping I’m not fooled I continued that way.
Coming closer my hope grew stronger
Clearing my brows I saw the glow
Where there is hope there becomes light.
A lion, a tin man, and a scarecrow.
Followed Dorothy, beyond the rainbow.
Singing and dancing, they strode,
Along the yellow brick road.
Where an old witch, plunged them knee deep in snow.

I was born in the hearth of the snowbelt
knee deep winters-pond hockey
a long driveway with a small coal shovel
pegging cars with snowballs
long slogs to school
slow brained learner
like an icy march river
-praying so hard for snow days.
wind blows
snow falls
knee - deep
road sweep
cold toes
more clothes
school closed
snow day
kids play
hearts bloom
sled zooms
loud mirth
well - worth
warm hearth
hot milk

IN THE WOOD
The hiss of wind in the knee-deep wood
The whiteness-buried forest floor:
Here winter reigns - its understood.
My soul’ s renewed : I can restore.
And burned-out spirit, now released,
Finds in snow a tree-bound peace
Plain tired bun at the back of your hair
Impassive brow, the hint of a smile
Afternoon eye full of luminous stare
A small brooding hand rugged with work
Burrowing into a lap full of care
Crossed legs, covered knee deep as the sea
Lady, how do I dare
Knee-deep in flowing, verdant grass
near the creek beside
the hill,
a black carabao feeds on freedom,
leisurely roams
at will.
On its massive back, a delicate,
white egret
slow-dances,
the feathers of its slender neck
the morning breeze
romances!
knee-deep in flowing verdant grass,
near the creek beside
the hill,
carabao slowly feeds on freedom,
leisurely roams
at will.
on its massive back, white egret,
so delicately
slow-dances,
the feathers of its slender neck
the morning breeze
romances!
I come home to great works of literature submerged in water
Knee deep
The landlady tells me not to worry
You don't need sugar in coffee - you're sweet enough
Arteta, the Arsenal manager is asked about superlatives
The poet within him replies, "I don't mind adjectives".
In the dusty shack of my childhood,
I sat between them, my old self and his brothers
the fright in the place was knee-deep
nightmares go towards
wind of sleep
long before I close my eyelids
autumn leaves cry for me
If only our touch is allowed
I wish I had
seen the red flags in life
Wisdom would have helped guide my way
instead I closed the door to knowledge
ignored all signs of trouble
then opened it at the wrong moment
when a thousand flags were flying
to my dismay
to this day
I still am knee deep in red flags
bunkerdown in knee deep mud
Rats run through the trenchs
fieled with body's and wast
The sky is starless
The only lights come from the explosions
The night is fieled with yells, gunshots and explosions
I try to close my eyes just for a second
But the ruckas around me will not allow it
