She was not mine for long,
her main man lived in a single-wide,
down a dusty Florida road.

I kind of came between her
and her last hope.

The day her dog got bit by a snake
and died in the brush,
we just called its name
until the sun got too hot to shout.

Later her man turned up
skinny, mean, and drunk.

I missed the dog
when I hit the road once more....
