Sitting at the table, Ole Wild Bill
Was playing with some cards, showing off his skill

Stop Dancing
stop dancing
in circles and figure eights
my name is translucent
nice to meet you, transparent
did you raise an eyebrow?
i doubt it
you've probably thought about this
retaliation
as a possible
option
so now what?
you're it.
checkmate....

Illuminated figure eights swirling through the stratosphere
moonlet drops of gold surrounded by the ebon night
Star kissed wishes floating through the atmospheric dew

Life's Flower
duped to go
metric excepting
this but forgetting

what once was
sacred has evaded
even jaded thinking

that you think this is
but it isn't geometry
so please pass me

that three
no it's not
in eights

going metric
you made
a mistake...

If I Had Breastices
If I had breastices
I'd want me some thirty eights
or maybe forty-four magnums
to impress all my mates

I'd want them to be soft
and a little bouncy too
but only for my pleasure
not to share with you

for if I had breastices
I'd be happy as a lark
smiling all during the day
and panting after dark...

A Lullaby For a Suicidal Butterfly
A lullaby
For the suicidal butterfly
Tracing figure eights on my window panes.

Broken wings,
Torn by thunderstorms
And rosebushes,
Are still beating fruitlessly:
In hope,
Or foolishness,
The two are interchangeable.

A lullaby
For the suicidal butterfly
Arcing lazily overhead
For a last-breath sunset....

Lorenzo Lorraine Langstoth* located the bees passing space
Three-eights of an inch,would gove them grace;
The world widely used this discovery
and copied his patent too easily-
Lorenzo found 'fame' but fortune was not to be.

In 1851 this American clergyman * made the discovery that made honey a viable commercial
food source....

Bagarthach’s prey oft are smitten
by curses composed in eights and nines.
Careful how you phrase what’s written,
so you’re not the target of its lines!

----------

From Poet's Collective, a quatrain in 8a:9b:8a:9b used in The Reefs of Earth by American writer R. A Lafferty. There, they were used as curses spoken by an alien race....

    Upside down

    Indoors, outdoors

      without you near

Ten To One
Ten fingers to hold you close

Nine live hopefully to share with you

Figure eights of love got my head spinning

Seven wonders of my world

Six feet under without you

Five day work week and the weekend I’m with you

Four corners of my mind but your in the center

Three calls a day just to hear your voice

Two eyes to hypnotize me

One kiss from you to last forever...

Deprived
Pacing, searching, panicking;
can't find what I'm missing.
I'm about to lose it.
Been in this rat race
for way too long.
Don't know which way to go.
Spinning in squares, triangles, figure eights,
anything that doesn't makes sense.
Now I'm sick gonna throw up,
no remedy for me.
Just teasers of happiness
that are not for me.
A bystander observer
not allowed to have it for myself....

Seventy-Eights
I just bought a record player but it won't play my seventy-eights.
It only plays thirty-threes and forty fives and that's something I hate.
I have over a hundred seventy-eights with some terrific singers.
But to be able to play them, I have to spin the wheel really fast with my finger.
My hand is getting tired and this sure does aggravate.
I want a record player that will play my damn seventy-eights....

A Brief Contribution
You wanted to be
one of the great, idolized masters
of poetry
But you were let down"by a king full on eights"
   Weekends after work
prove joyous
as you relax
  read the funnies
and enjoy !
Who am I to judge you?
Maybe someone will like
    your poetry and prose
in a thousand years
Find a fragment and discuss it
Won't do you too much good
But what a FANTASTIC THOUGHT!...

Premium Member Fashionable Cat Keeps Her Secrets
No matter who you ask
If you expect two adjectives
One of them will be fashionable
She is a diva cat, dressed to the eights.

I would have said nines, but that is rude
considering what nine means in the lives of a cat.
She arrived today with a self-portrait bag.
We begged to know where she ordered it.

Of course she had conveniently forgotten,
not wanting to share her fashionable ways
with the rest of us....

Colors
Splish. Splash. With every stroke of the brush.

Reds...Blues...greens...and the yellow..

Don't forget pink..the orange,both so mellow.

Splash. Splish. Goes the paint on the canvas.

Brushes.. Fingers.. Oh see how they glide.

Self portraits, figure eights..moving from side to side.

Acrylic. Water paint. Gliding stroke of the brush.

Purple..Agua..Black..Please don't forget the white.

The very thing you need to make the others..light...

Dancing, whizzing, whirling,
  Skaters swooping by;
Starlets busy twiriling,
  Pointing to the sky.

Judges tracing outlines,
  Fancy figure eights;
Hopefuls' unread headlines,
  Sealed in starry fates.

Breathless finish flowing
  From dazzling routine;
Nervous, never knowing,
  Verdict yet unseen.

Unseen Beauty
A Man skates On the ice He stands alone Practicing his form The beauty is unseen Like the trees in the forest When they fall do they make a sound As it was stated in times long passed Is beauty only seen when others view The figure eights, the spirals and jumps Who will be there to appreciate If when unseen will it exist Will he be the only one To know what he’s done As he makes his spin And turns on ice The beauty Will be There

Eight
I often question if I can feel the ecstasy I used to know,
that old familiar rush that seeps through my skin.
Do I have to swallow those little numbers
(one through eight)
to make myself whole?
Only then do I fail to differentiate the warmth of my skin from the atmosphere.
And my heart pounds like a change in gravity.
My skin starts to inhale and a tidal wave crashes into my senses-
I’m disoriented and dazed and fulfilled momentarily,
so I’m lost in a cycle,
counting by eights....
