It’s a giant bird
Second look, it’s a young girl
A thrilling third glance
It’s actually an angel
Three twisted in a statue

you don't need
to see
an orchestra
to hear
a symphony
you don't need
to see
a lake
to take
a drink of water
double take
skinny dipping

Of all the blessings from our God above
None greater than inherent power to love.

Brian Strand's "Double Take" won 4th place
North, South, East, or West; to which shall it be?
Please tell me which way...to escape from me!
* Ninth place in Brian Strand's contest, "Double Take".
Beneath the snow, sharp thorns grow on your tomb;
Reminders of the rose, that there once bloomed.

At the check out I did a double take,
when I saw them my heart did palpitate,
Popeye the sailor,
Olive enamored,
Bluto stalking Olive wanting a date.
11-6-16
was running by
got distracted
stopped dead
took double take
started to walk
away then decided
to turn around
walked up
got shot down
sat down in
despair staring
in disbelief
As well as my charm and amazing good looks
You'd think I had tentacles like an oversexed octopus
My looks tend to make
Young girlies double take
And fight for a piece of this silly old schnook
I met this perfect stranger in Salt Lake
When we both did a reverse double take
I thought I recognized him,
He thought me someone named Jim
Laughing, we both exclaimed, “Oops! My mistake!”

There was a man there
In the umbrage
Hidden
Shroud of overcast rain
The ravage drops danced wildly
Obscured across my pane
But I saw him!
For only just a moment's fled
But when I looked again
A double take
Another midnight's stupor fed
As well as my charm and amazing good looks
You'd think I had tentacles like an oversexed octopus
My looks tend to make
Young girlies double take
And fight for a piece of this silly old schnook

Dreaming?
I’m holding onto harmony
with every shallow breath I take;
Careful I canoodle tightly,
one more step forward I could break;
I will not become a cupcake,
instead mirroring sugared steel;
You’ll need to do a double take
to recognize me when I heal.
Whom dwell below dark skies as seasons change
~~So bitter is the winter of goodbye

Jiminy Cricket and goodness sake,
when I first saw her, I did a double take.
I can’t explain, I don’t know why,
something about her caught my eye.
As days passed and time progressed,
the more she shined and impressed.
A treasure if there ever was,
I really, really like her,
more than just because.
When the bend in love
becomes a break
When the hold
slips the fingertips
and memories forgotten
Cant see me in you eyes
looks that you ought not
To have
Nor to hold
For no days forward
My death
if you part
Smile at you lovingly
Just cant
let you see
that i know
you dont look
the same at me
you know
it's bad when your
guardian angel runs
I often wonder
how quiet is it
right before the end
that brief pause
just before
extinction
the universe takes
a double-take
in disbelief, in sadness
but I'm
drinking wine
in another time
I don't dread
the silences
just the paper seats
A bridge o’er crystal clear tranquil water

Serene
Sunlit trees
Kiss the senses
Nature’s wondrous double take on the lake.

That one really caused me to double-take
I had no need of a lollipop man
in my younger days
as before crossing the road
I knew to look both ways
right left then right again
and if the coast was clear
I'd see myself safely across
without a hint of fear
but if traffic was at a standstill
thinking 'Here goes, pell-mell'
without blinking do a double-take
and then run like hell
Hands on a mirror
I stare intently at me;
Telekinesis;
Every object simply moves
with a single focused glance;
Did a double take;
Was it really me just now?
The room flys about;
A whirlwind spins rapidly
fueled by my intensity;
Untapped potential
biting my lip wind lifts me;
My knuckles grip white
stimulating what’s inside;
I relinquish all control.
The staff lounge had a posted sign
Hung prominently, by design.
It said, addressed to you and me,
“This room is for light drollery.”
I did a double-take and laughed
And wondered if I’d get the shaft
Or what reproof they might just levy
If my drollery got heavy.
Shakespeare would feel right at home,
Perhaps to rest or write a poem,
In such a place where to amuse
Too much is one of its taboos.
Staring…
Reflection…
Wondering…
Disappointment…
Sadness…
Questions….
Who am I?
What have I become?
Where did I go wrong?
When did I change?
Why do I look different?
How did this happen?
Shake head…
Look again…
Voices…
Don’t listen…
Reflection talking…
Double take…
Reflection grins…
Jump back…
Reflection stops…
Move closer…
Reflection grabs me…
Pulls me in…

I see the world
as a place to be free
and place where there's only
you and me.
A place of freedom
a place of love
that the holy man put here
from above
I see the world
through my own eyes
a small thing
no disguise
but you stop
and see what's beneath
beneath the roads and
concrete streets.
you start to hear
machines, beeps, and tweets
you start to look around,
this place smells like meet.
is this world just
a fake
another movie,
a double take?

We were sailing on the Ocean, my sisters, dad and me
Our sturdy ship was 12 foot long, but could stand the mighty sea
We were sailing past an Island, and native girls were there
They wore grass skirts, and lei’s, with flowers in their hair
Then someone called “13 in”, and I did a double take
We weren’t sailing on the Ocean, we were sailing Belle Vue Lake.
now we are back on dry land, and reality is here
I remember well, those days of yesteryear
