Two mighty boats beached
End of voyage reached
Captains’ judgement call
Rust consumes them all
Run aground and caught
Well-laid plans for naught

You write about the sea
That no captain could ever write
But see.

For even the poets could not trust them
Nor could the captains trust themselves
To captain a ship
that forms lines of poetry....

They sit, seldom still, naked
yet not silent - beckoning,
like a wind chime concert
of tapping halyards,
wave slapped hulls and
groaning lines where freedom hints
to their captains, "To sea, to sea"....

The government shutdown drags on
While the furloughed and unpaid federal workers suffer
When will the captains of complacency in Washington finally end this madness?

Utopia
Under this mental umbrella, anything you
Think of, is possible; travelling to
Other worlds can be one of your favorite
Possibilities that you would always be talking about; sometimes
Intermingling with imaginary captains and princesses from
Across the galaxies....

Nope, benefits for the wealthy does not
trickle down to middle-class
and the poor, that's nonsense.

Enriching captains of industry? Please.
What about the little guys?
They deserve a leg up!

Teething Tigers
Western wars brought to foreign fields
Bullet barrages blocked by grim guillotines
Petulant petrol fans the flickering flames
Courageous captains solder soldiers together
Teething tigers ripped from mad mothers to
Carry demented decisions from bribed bullies
All hail the casket caravans of yesterday's youth...

SAILOR
All captains pull cold, old mainlands. Never a valley. The lad rises like a warm moon. Ooh, desolation! is a big gull. Reefs like small shores. Gulls travel! The stormy sail fights the sailor. grow like big captains.

You Will Not Live Forever
You will not live forever
And you do not have a soul
There are no hells or heavens
No charged punishments to scroll

We do not keep on going
When our ashes riddle urns
There are no gods or saviors
No exchanges or returns

You will not live forever
And you cannot sway the Fates
There are no master captains
Out beyond the crooked gates...

---Brown Pelican Speaks---

I dreamed I danced with sea-creatures,
Between here and before…

I dreamt I wept with wandering waves,
Confused by silence, unable to ebb and flow…

I dreamed I prayed with the spirits of old sea captains,
Upon angelic clouds, unable to soothe the dry-docked tears
Of their grandchildren, looking skyward for hope…

I awoke………frozen in oil...

Sunday Football
Sunday Football

Winning prospect nears
Sunday football cheers
Men folk gather ‘round
Women, also found.
All are TV bound.

Who gets the ball?
Heads wins the call.
Captains’ close-up!
Energy pumped.

The coin toss…
No team scoffs.
The kick-off!

Teams play.
Dreams stay.

Game…

Huddled seagulls fearlessly, serenely
nap early ignoring calamity;
dark offers safety generously...
night arrives silently, mysteriously.
This lighthouse's brilliance constantly
lures captains avoiding distraction,
but hastily captivated: ambition
and desire palpitate intensely.

In London
In London
Big Ben told me the time
Seven p.m.
With chains clinking history
A few yards away
With his heavy jaw
Churchill was chewing
Burned out human wisdom
People were crammed into every space
And cameras were flashing and weaving
Like stunned fireflies
The world’s caique appeared in the mist
Old, very old
The captains come and go
But the oarsmen are the same –
Nameless...

Aimless
Every rodeo must have a clown
every king his fool.
But, a ship or boat has
got to have rudder
to steer it on its course.

Lost at sea, I drift aimless
carried by wave and wind
I gave up on the captains log and
sent the compass and sextant
straight down to Davey jones

I watch the wheel
in it's meaningless spin
I plot a course no more
and I contemplate my fate
and remember cowboys and kings....

Leaders
Trailblazers and bellwethers
who conduct with dignity
are these noble maestros
who shepherd people.
Honorable and selfless
luminaries are these bold
inspirers of confidence.
Captains of courage
who lead by example.
Directors who orchestrate,
motivate, excite and
spark others to follow.
Emanate role models
of noteworthy distinction.
These are leaders,
champions of the best
who are as rare
as they are great....

Wreck of Ship-Africa
WRECK OF SHIP-AFRICA

Where is the sentiment of those who fought?
When their blood is shed and their story taught
Are we forgetting or we never knew.

Are we going to watch this sheep wreck
O! I cry for the captains are lepers and dread
We need another Christ to save us from ourselves

Life is at stake not for a good and reasoned course
Selfishness and brutality, innocent and the guilty suffers
The strong wage war against the weak without remorse....

Sinking
I always thought a captain
Had to go down with his ship.
Forgetting this, for captains,
Seems to be a major slip.

As passengers were scrambling
To keep themselves afloat,
The captain was observing from
The safety of his boat.

A lifeboat is the one I mean,
Away from the disaster.
The sinking ship, where he belonged,
Once hailed him as its master.

Of course there’ll be a price to pay
And he can only lose.
Another reason why I never
Plan to take a cruise!...

overwhelmed by ambushed storm
