Biking

ride my bike in the chill
around the Titanic decks. . .
hope to ride till we dock

Spying On Neighbors

fanciest binoculars I have ever seen
spying on neighbors, so far unseen
love seeing that Daddy kick out his screen
hiding now, not as keen

From the Turret

turquoise sky
castle Britannica
rowing club in gentle waters
arrival of swans
I head to the turret
binoculars on a ledge
I see red tulips
loving the turquoise sky

On a Steep Hill

Freezing days on a steep hill
below a flock of sheep grazing,
under a watchful dog standing still.
And I, with binoculars appraising
Winter's life is amazing!

Through the Looking Glass

I spied a wonderful blond on the beach
Her body so shapely and peached
   I was in ogling mood
   I know it was rude
Through binoculars, so far out of reach

Silver Anniversary

Silver Anniversary

There beyond the shrub
the sun medallions on the grass
around a python and boar,
the python winding.

Through binoculars I see
the python work so slow.
The boar now knows

what I learned long ago.
To go this way
takes years.

Four Swifts

Four Swifts
Live up to their name
As they dart and sail
On the late summer breeze

There's a delight
In knowing I'm the only one
Who watches them
Up here, on my balcony

Here they come again
My binoculars cannot catch them
They are better enjoyed
In full panoramic view

Through The Wall Of Wonder

Little girl with eyes so bright
Peering through binoculars, full of delight
A stone wall cradles her gentle stance
In a world of dreams, she dares to dance
Every whisper of the wind, she hears
Through her lenses, a universe unfolds
Adventure calls, her heart is bold

Cute

You’re such a cute guy!!
You always look relaxed and detached
and a little confused or bemused.
It makes me want to enlist in assisting.
Your lips look seriously delicious.
Your eyes are green and serene.
You’re simply beautiful sigh
(Damn these binoculars are good!)

The Hawk On the Bough

As seen from our front window.

The Hawk ON THE BOUGH

binoculars gawk
there’s a storm looming
the hawk returns to h i s bough
he’d flown out for lunch
he’s pecking off fur
and indulging in squirrel
he needs no raincheck
in f o w l weather he wings it

Lazarus Walk

Boots
in the closet;
I wait for them to walk
so I can follow.

Wallet
in my drawer;
he needs his license, money,
not a lot,

t-shirt,
pair of pants,
running shoes,
his watch,

binoculars,
field guide,
floppy hat.
I won’t forget.

I’m ready, boots;
lead me;
it’s not too late;
it’s not.

Red Sky At Night

The Rivers Current
Flows in this Mind
Visions Drifting
Propelled to the Waters Edge
Pockets of Wind
Lead them to Their Port
Docked
I can only watch
Binoculars give a close view
Their Course is Set .....
Remember Once You Set Sail ......
There is No Turning Back.......
Navigating ones Head and Heart......

The Last Mass

Hawk eyes
have never been so starved
heads hung binoculars slung
on sloped defeated shoulders

They file out of the woods and marsh
in silence like a funeral march
shuffling along
gathering at stations

With pause
with reverence
   and tears
observing repentantly

the nests from last year

Italian Waters

Rowing on the waters in Venice
I see houses holding hands
Bakers talking sweet to one another
Couples walking down the street with their palms stuck
Street performers making feet move like waves
My binoculars store these sights in the banks
Another row I perform
down these waters
as I go wherever the sea takes me
to find new wonders

Stars

Stars are magical
Glittery, little bright
Lights

They're home is
High up in
The sky and
That is where
The stars reside

Stars shine brightly
On clear nights
And are a
Free movie that
People may watch
Where ever they
Want too with
A telescope, binoculars
Or with their
Own eyes
Only on a clear night outside

Do You Have a Itch, Glitch Or Twitch

Last night, riding across a full moon I saw a witch,

that funny move she made was a twitch.

Maybe her move was just really an itch,

the wooden broom she was riding on looked like a switch.

Could what I was seeing be a glitch,

my new binoculars must be on the fritz.

Observing Leopard

Leopard looks solidly relaxed
Reposing in the top of his tree
Using binoculars, I marvel at his beauty.
Or her beauty, there is a regal magnificence about her
I wonder if she senses she is being watched.
As she licks her paws I get a weird feeling that she does not.
But then she stops and stares straight as an arrow toward me.
I stop breathing.

For Pippa

I can’t tell you the joy
this cat has brought into my life.
She is curled up now -
 curled in my lap dreaming
of immortality

We sit out in the sun,
 me looking through binoculars.
Her soft tail twitching
 at an ambulance rushing
to some fatality

Written: Christmas 1988

  old age of 20 years.

The Stalker

He stands behind a large tree

A silhouette in the dark

Patiently waiting and watching

Until she appears in sight

He is mesmerised by her beauty

He knows soon she will be his

His heart races with excitement

His and his only……as long as he lives

He watches her intently

Until she disappears

Puts the binoculars in is backpack

With all his new souvenirs …..!

What is that Giant Head in the Ocean

Was that a giant head bobbing out of the ocean?
The sightseers got out their binoculars
Something massive, a monster
Looked like a giant head

Captain of the cruise ship had seen this before
It is an ocean sunfish, they weigh four thousand pounds
They do look like giant heads
Their main food source is jellyfish

I felt relieved
I thought the head of the statue of liberty had fallen off

Ice In the Veins

John Doe enjoys
Peering through
A pair of binoculars
From inside his apartment
Daily training them
On unsuspecting people
One day, while scanning outdoors
Taking in the sights
He saw something that made
His blood run cold
A mysterious stranger
Was spying back at him
Also through binoculars

The Cardinal

In the springtime, what is that I hear? It's an aviary call sounding like "cheer, cheer, cheer". I use my binoculars to look up in a tree. Through the lenses, what a delightful sight I see! He's covered in feathers that are colored a bright red. A very intense shade from his tail to his head. Sights in the spring don't get any better than this. I don't even live in or near St. Louis.

Still Not Nosey

I'm not nosey but
I was standing at the window
Looking through the net curtains
And I just happened to have a pair of binoculars in my hand
Well as you know I'm not one to gossip but
I wish you could have taken a look
At what I saw.

But as I'm not one to gossip as I said
So I''ll keep what I saw in my head
Who's that looking through a pair of binoculars
At me from a tree
Ooh the nosey thing.
