Heart
I left my heart in Thessaloniki;
I left my love by the Aegean Sea.
What in the world,
what in the world,
is happenin' to me?...

Petermannchen Handed Me Over His Bunch of Key
Petermännchen handed me over his bunch of key
Hugged me and sent me to the east Aegean sea
There I found a bold golden bull
He was chewing Apollo's tool
He swooshed open his drool I forgot how to pee...

An Umber Fisherman
I, an umber fisherman,
hover
on this bamboo raft
like a dragonfly
over the aegean river.
The gods below
cast reflections
of their salmon sun,
languid
in orchid sky
before indigo palms
and spruce mountains
brocading
a mute kingdom,
onto my blank
porcelain world....

Ekphrasis
Three
violet evenings,
aegean seas,
dancing flames,
nothing
could have prepared me
for the beauty
of loving you.
grins,
laughs,
scars,
tears.
painted by our love
on a canvas of us.
and as my eyes fail,
and my mind fades,
my heart sees you
my heart remembers you
my heart loves you....

I do not know?
Sunny Islands of Greece
Winter’s chill pierces my frail heart
My shallow breath could cease,
Ere spring arrives, I may depart
For the sunny islands of Greece.
Beautiful Kythira
Cenozoic era
Lovely riviera
I dream of the Aegean Sea,
Winter’s chill so depresses me.

For the Memories
I used to wander through the olive groves
in the days when I was younger
sitting outside in the shade to eat
while Granddad chatted in the street
familiar words not quite understood
I stayed all summer just because I could
swimming in the beautiful Aegean sea
I was as happy as I could be
memories of those days gone by
I look at the old photo's -with a sigh....

Afraid To Venture
They used to say when would my adventures end
for by plane or boat I sought to find home
discover new things- see if they fitted
Now I am afraid- COVID19 did this to me
my beloved Greece awaits me with open arms
but I fear it
I dream of the Aegean sea and it calls me
of the sounds and smells of its Islands
but I fear it
wait for me beloved home
one day I will return...

Shame of Humanity
Aylan's little body, has been drowned
His soul in heavens, bitter was found
As humanity for certain, feels no shame
For noone is ready, to take the blame.*
(C) Demetrios Trifiatis
04 September 2015
* Tribute to the little Kurdish boy (3 year old) that was drowned in the Aegean sea, along with his mother (27) and older brother (5) during his family's effort to reach Greece....

An Inviting Table With a Pink Chair
The pink hallways led us down to the sea
We could not jump from the last step
But I could have dived in and I might have loved it
Unfortunately, I was not wearing my swimming suit
There was an inviting table with a pink chair.
I sat, enjoying the ambiance of the pretty water
No water is as blue or as sparkling as the Aegean Sea of Greece
I sat for a time, enjoying a luxurious caramel coffee....

Une Barque Sur L'Ocean
The sparkling melody mirrors the waves
Of the peaceful Aegean Sea.
With notes floating to my rousing mind,
Sailing boats is all I see.
With winds flowing, boats sail forward
Towards cliffs of jagged rock,
From the town on the bluff I watch
Boats drift towards the dock.
That's the scene I always see
Hearing Ravel’s boat on the sea.
The memory is recalled so simply,
My summer in Santorini....

Shopping Center Sailors
A leisurely coffee, conversation
that barely makes it across
the table before slipping back
into silence, shapes passing by
shadowed in the blurr
of their growing distance.
They gather at ten, old men,
landlocked yet in their mind’s aegean,
letting out their long nets
beneath a vast shopping center ceiling
arching over them like an endless sky,
horizons drawing them further out
to where, one day, they won’t return....

Blue
Blue is natural in its beauty.
It can be icy like the Arctic
or calm and stately like a spruce.
Blue is deep like the Aegean; indigo,
or cobalt, stark against the snow.
Blue is splendid ink painting twilight skies
or robin eggs, cornflowers and butterflies,
peacock proud or cookie monster loud.
Blue, like denim jeans, makes me smile
or melts me like a blonde boy’s gaze.

Tonight I Want You
Tonight I want you
to blend into blue
where sand
meets sea...
to breath in heir
apparent that you understand
as Me...
tonight I want you
to hope upon a star
to wonderfully graze on starlight
for I know
that's what you are,
I felt you smile as you drifted
into Nod
and witnessed pure light
bourne of yr forehead
not from Aegean waters
but here on Cape Cod...
tonight I want you
to be where you
want to be...
to blend into blue
where sky meets the sea.......

Chelynne's Book
Sand between my toes I've saved
along with flowers pressed
A tortoise shell of black and green
from when I lived out west
On my desk I even hold
a ruby found in ancient Rome
and opal shells made just for me
from snails I met in the Aegean Sea
But what I hold dear to my heart
comes clear the best in ink
So I seal them down indelible
and kiss them with a wink
I hold them here inside this book
along with thoughts of you
For, sister, you and I are one
instead of only two......

The Words 'I Love You'
The words, “I love you.”
Should not be lark song loud
Nor zephyr light sighing
Nor dancing like a mountain stream.
Neither should they be hammer anvil proud
Nor furnace flame flying
Nor rending the night like a lightning storm
The words, “I love you”
Should be boulder smooth and reassuring
Baked by an Aegean sun
Warm, solid, time-enduring
Bearing all, excluding none,
Gain and loss; pain and pleasure
All bound therein in equal measure.

Breathless
The steamy breathlessness of unending youthful love
Reckless plunges into cryogenic mountain lakes
The sound of brightly shining stars beyond the Trevi
Eternal love embraced in kiss of shimmering gold
Golden glow of dying sun on white Aegean walls
Among first sights and sounds that once took away my breath
And yet, you leave me breathless
still

The Olive Tree
The greatest of all the trees
if pressed would be the olive tree.
Surely, created by mother nature.
At a place where the Aegean Sea,
stretches out to meet the land of Crete.
Nature has bestowed upon her a majestic tree
with a warm climate with rich fertile lands.
And crowned her with the sun.
And bathed her with the sea,
Nurturing the soul of the olive tree.
A wonderful gift to mankind and yet,
It was puzzling to his mind but over time,
He discovered the worth of the olive tree....
