Folderol Gallimaufry

At the risk of coming off turgid
I offer this tale esoteric
Hoping it’s not found insipid
Nor causes one to be apoplectic
But rather received with alacrity
Without the need for paroxysm
My word there’ll be no chicanery
And avoidance of anachronism
Far from being sesquipedalian
Nor need for any razzmatazz
The tale of the slubberdegullion
Who thought himself full with pizzazz
Though being so supercilious
His affect stirred only dudgeon
Any good was so very fugacious
From this untoward tatterdemalion
Yet still he persisted a mumpsimus
If you will, and worse a panjandrum
So aggravating and rumbustious
Redeeming qualities not a modicum
An unquestioned snollygoster
Given to being quite vagary
An ill-reputed hugger-mugger
And a voice of such cacophony
But I see that you are insouciant
And consider my warning malarkey
Since you wish to be recalcitrant
My apologies for being persnickety
I end my tale of the rapscallion
Without further ado or rigmarole
Avoiding becoming ultracrepidarian
I have met my supererogatory parole

I'm going to try one more time
To write an intellectual rhyme
Some with complicated words
Most of which I've never heard
Words that cudgel my brain
So I can deliberate and strain
My antediluvian brain
To think from a new perspective
Endeavour to be more selective
Perhaps I should keep improvising
These sesquipedalian words are so misguiding
It would save much more time
To stick (or adhere) to my simple rhyme

There’s nothing finer, in a sense,
Than certain words in present tense.
Words which are incredibly,
Etched on your mind indelibly.

Immaculate, petulant, magnificent, sinew,
Incredulous, superfluous, to name just but a few.
Sacrament, procrastinate, intestate - may seem,
Draconian, Dickensian, obsolete, obscene.

Gratuity, embouchure, gnaw with silent 'g',
Juggernaut, cantankerous, words which I must decree,
Are remarkably, stupendously, fantastically sublime,
And should be used magnanimously, each and every time.

Biblical, whimsical, statistician, brie,
Words which are surprisingly, absolutely free.
Insatiable, perpetuate, onomatopoeia,
Existential, exemplary, words you shouldn’t fear.

Exponential, candid, xylophone or muse,
Malign versus benign - never to confuse.
Reptilian, gazillion, fragility, beguile,
Elucidate, excruciate, go the extra mile.

Psychopath, pedestrian, sesquipedalian,
(That last word I must admit is somewhat alien),
But never doubt, you have some clout, with words that randomly,
Demonstrate, accentuate a sense of liberty.

In modern Russian poetry, there is such a genre as "stish'ok-pirozh'ok" (a pie rhyme). It's an iambic tetrameter quatrain, a feminine ending in the first and third lines, no rhymes, punctuation and capital letters. The content is frivolous or humorous. Black humor is welcome. Something like an English limerick, but simpler. Hoping, the soupers would like it)

Sesquipedalian

does he even know
of which he speaks;
rattling on, it seems for weeks.

words he deems so slick.
never cutting to the quick.

on and on with endless chatter
not unlike the mad, mad hatter
(though even he had more sanity)

words on words
long and slow
words from where
God only knows

his breath escapes
from somewhere deep.

excuse me
if i fall asleep.

It is unbeliveable how many pericopes
people do not know.
In your mind there is a reservoir of knowlege untapped.
Its not like this stuff is mystical or anything!!
When you reach the quadrivial of what you know.
You may find that its not worth
much more than a ligure.
When finding your weltanschauung
You may be fastidious at times,
But in your cockaigne
jubulince will reign supreme.
All anyone ever needs is self-identification.
Or a dictionary.

My friend is a sesquipedalian
Using words that tax my cerebellum
As her prolific pen flows
My vocabulary grows
But I am not very good at spelling ‘um
