I don't know
where iceberg lettuce
winter squash
or snow peas grow
but it seems to me
it's not down there
in Antarctica
where and when it's freezing below
which only goes to show
pointing out if not advising
there's bait and switch in the pitch
and no truth to their advertising
How I remember those salad days
When life was a mix of this and that
Experimenting with abandoned glee
Finding enjoyment in life’s pleasures,
Without much thought of consequences
How I remember those salad days.
Each day brought exciting adventures
And lessons learned at my expense,
When I brushed off failures with a flick
Embracing successes and feeling good,
How I remember those salad days.
Making friendships and crucial choices
Trying my wings and hearing voices
Telling me their ideas about what to do,
And encouraging me to be all I could be
How I remember those salad days!
"Salad Days"
My days, I find,
Are as full as I choose to make them now.
I may opt to spend the day
Watching the birds at play
In my wobbly old bird bath.
Or pass a smile
Watching the squirrels
Delighting over the treats
I’ve offered them in the ancient pecan tree.
Or trekking out to the back fence
To deliver some welcome indulgence
To the neighboring pups who beckon to me daily.
Some days I spend in indulgence.
Some I spend in chores to earn my keep.
Some I spend bonding in bed with my pups
To keep my heart in good working order.
I am the Queen of my realm.
I am the recipient of a life well earned.
I am one who is ever grateful to God
For the blessings that He has given to me
…..every day
………….for the rest of my life.

i fondly recall
chasing after ice creams trucks ~
fun days of my youth!

What should have been my Salad Days (but I was young, not wise)
were filled with pizza, nachos, pastries, candy bars and fries!
Many years I spent repenting when those days were through,
and there are not too many diets that I did not do!
However, in my 60’s, I found at last the key
to losing weight most healthily and effectively.
Priority I usually give to plant-based foods. My goals
are eating things organic and lots of vegetables.
Love smoothies, stir-fry, home-made soups (tomato, broccoli
and so much more). My Salad Days I’m living happily!

Yesterday when my world was young
and days were wasted seeking fun
Smiles were cheap and our bikes our wheels
gorging candy and skipping meals
Time was solid as we chipped it away
innocence challenged as we leaped into the fray
Too young to be afraid, too dumb to care
do anything on a whim with just a dare
Youth was never wasted on the young
Youth was needed so we may become
The wishers wish, the dreamer's dream
to forever cling to our desires and schemes
Of living life to it's fullest extremes
Dare to laugh at death while bursting at the seams
And if we survive to old and frail
Our salad days of tall tales to tell
SALAD DAYS
Remembrances of my salad days can’t enrapture me.
Compound fractures in heart when compelled to brawl,
though healed in the long run have left deep scars.
I walked all alone strolling in whirling storm
to mourn or to exult, yet strong soul was sworn.
Seeds of courage and zeal were sown in my conscience
solacing my sad salad days struggling forlorn.
Little sprinkles of love also spread pretty polka dots of joy.
Confident tune resonated in rhapsody of life
walking all alone, sometimes resting in sojourn.

Amidst the cool breeze of the dawn, the hope is on aborning.
For every tear down the face of the sky,
There is a rainbow smiling.
For every sinister's shadow, the silent sentinel is on watch.
Ready to spoil the eggs the evil is about to hatch.
Hope, now that you're on your salad days.
Beware of the temptation the apple brings.
For biting it entails much of the worldy ways
Directing you somewhere destruction clings.
Your salad days are but ephemeral
Like the sun is sure to set
To the horizon ruled by the west I bet;
Like the bamboo trees ready to bow in chorale.
The sun is still high for you to walk a mile
With your faith you can always smile;
The sun is still high for you to walk a mile
With your hope, reaching your dreams is but a while.
MY SALAD DAYS
I was silly, little stupid
I was naughty, little timid
I was choosy, little crazy
I was fussy, little lazy
I was raw, unpolished
My salad days most cherished
I questioned, I observed
Some Wisdom I gathered
Few mistakes, few lessons
A lifetime experience!

Many can recall and recollect
the halcyon moments of carefree abandon
When juvenile limbs climbed upon cedar limbs
or squatted under oak or baobab shades
while languishing in youthful salad days
As they chased butterflies or katydids
Yet ironically in their prime
most disdained the veggie salads.
No bothering much where and how
the shillings and earnings came from
Home made cakes and pies gobbled in for granted delight
Engrossed in exploring the wide old world with youthful eyes.
