Salad Days

What should have been my Salad Days (but I was young, not wise)
were filled with pizza, nachos, pastries, candy bars and fries!
Many years I spent repenting when those days were through,
and there are not too many diets that I did not do!
However, in my 60’s, I found at last the key
to losing weight most healthily and effectively.
Priority I usually give to plant-based foods. My goals
are eating things organic and lots of vegetables.
Love smoothies, stir-fry, home-made soups (tomato, broccoli
and so much more). My Salad Days I’m living happily!

Hello Andrea … I suppose its common sense to eat fresh natural organic food, but advertising on the telly makes it difficult for parents to guide the kids I guess - I'm with you all the way here but with a few breakouts - Lindsay

Where were you when I started scaring my distended stomach into pulling away from my french fried, steak and chili days? You could have saved me! I certainly wish I had read this poem two weeks ago.

it takes a huge health scare to motivate people to do more veggies. I am putting all my trust in the power of vitamins to prevent future health problems. (and trying to rid myself of Prolia's toxins too)

I was prematurely and wrongly diagnosed as pre-diabetic, got a scare and cut out all sugar, white bread and a glass of wine (for two weeks) not only did my blood sugar return to normal, as the dietician said it was crazy that I was ever diagnosed as such, but I lost 5 kilos in two weeks! Love and hugs Andrea. Jenny.

yes, for many people, all it takes is cutting out sugar. I never ate a lot of sugar. I am more into potatoes, pasta and cheese stuff. So cutting back on those has helped. I eat whatever I want but I just make sure to get 7 or more servings of veggies (a little fruit) each day. They say most americans don't even get three servings. This is why the nation is so overweight!

I still swear by 'everything in moderation' Andrea. Like your poem though, very informative..

I don't eat just veggies, believe me, Harry. but "everything in moderation" never worked for me either. I lost weight much easier by eating over 7 servings of veggies a day. I think it increased my metabolism which was stuck on low gear for a long time. Now I am able to eat popcorn, organic chips, organic beef, eggs, rice, etc (those in moderation!)

Our diets certainly do change to healthier habits as we age out of necessity. Great entry Andrea! : ) xxoo

Yeah, nothing tastes like burger and fries! But my hot air fryer makes pretty tasty french fries!
