Today I was dreaming--Ronald, my husband popped not my head.
Then--I remembered our time on the Spirit of New York Dinner Cruises.
That was our First Anniversary Day.
Family and Friends gathered.
We toasted the event with Spirtzers; flowing over glass.
The day had sun light that shown bright. And the river flowed mild; not rough,
like shining glass; so smooth.
So, that we felt peaceful and light.
After, we were back on the deck; where we started.
Did you see that Ronnie O' Sullivan documentary?
The music teacher at school tells me he knows
The sax player who recorded with The Rolling Stones
It means, we are all two-people away from Mick Jagger
A daughter can help you find important things when you need them
Things like your smile, your hope & your lost souls rhythm
Having a daughter in your life is something to truly treasure
Her absence would break times
every measure
I've always taken notice,, during our separated times;
Immediately moving on,
Never even stopping to take a look behind.
So now it's finally over, and memories begin to fade;
Leaving only behind, the ones where you treated me
So very, very unkind...
God's karma for my youth, God's reminder for my future;
Love is truly blind when you choose not to see...
My heart broken and depleted self esteem,
My mind still distorted even as I write this,
On a poems empty screen...
The 20/20 vision I never have until the end
Shows me all the darkness, even as we first began...
Any beauty that was once there, was unseen in all the dark;
Like a peaceful evening rain as day turn's into dark;
Or the familiar unseen sound of, a friendly dogs bark,
. We know that somewhere above us is a
RAINBOW IN THE DARK...
Picture day a day that I from self consciousness detested
add to my gap toothed grin wild eyed and unrested
In first grade sitting next to a handsome young man in a suit
Bouncing along on the bus ride motion sick to boot
The stress of the day tipping the scales on me
and his closest pant leg
Humiliated my sister rushed up his pardon to please
Kindly beg
He put his arm around my heaving shoulders
And said
You couldn't help it honey, and against him lay my head
Home permed ,disgruntled ,with stain
on my dress
This young man's kindness I can attest
Went well above and beyond as did my breakfast

A STRAND (1070)
~~Brian Strand: Judged 2022 February 10
In a bed
not far away
His mind is gone
but body lay
Slow, but quick
He leaves today
A handsome man
Just barely gray
Many sad
But few will weep
The kind of soul
We couldn’t keep
Common knowledge
Bitter sweet
It’s time to lay
Him down to sleep
He was born
Into a time
Parents young
Beer and wine
Witnessing
Them blur the line
He caught Hell
Every time
The apple fell
But ceased to roll
A little man
Boyhood, stole
They helped him pack
He hit the road
With no direction
Or place to go
Soon, white powder
Lines of gold
A young boy
Becoming old
He couldn’t change
Refused to try
Many talked
Sister cried
Years passed
But not enough
The life of the party
Is looking rough
Too tired to fight
Too stubborn to try
No time, polite
To say goodbye
Robbinsville January 1943, a visionary artist was born to be
Country strong style, is his-story; par-excellence to you and me
Electric guitars just newly seen; would play one day, on music scene's
Where women will swoon, and young girls scream
Hard saved dimes, to his 'turn' would see; at Young Harris, in Towns county.
A Georgia boy made good & some stories, in country-rock/pop R&B!
A world I wouldn't miss, was 'born' to be; under the hands of Ronnie Lee!
Smoky mountain rain fell on our hearts, through cracklin radio's to early starts
'Pure Love' played all its lively parts; at park or mall & in K-marts.
His music echoed in the '70s & '80s, along with chrome mag wheels & feelin free.
Milsap impacts listener land, to date he stirs the soul of man,
His flow is rolling, verging on unplanned, his 'Local Girl' understated-grand
My finding is; my verdict says there's 'more of our guy' on the way!
When I'm feeling weary or senses grey, a 'hit' from Ronnie lifts my day.
Cross Missouri mudflats, on Florida sand; he moulds emotions in his hands.

Ronnie was born on October the thirteen.
Ozzfest was here on his first birthday.
Next year he will be twelve years old.
Nearly a teenager he will be.
Inch by inch he is growing up.
Every year he reminds me more and more of lil' coy.
Careless and daring he is.
Out going and full of life.
Young and healthy he will be for a long time.
Living life to the fullest.
Extra special in his own way.
Extra kind when he wants to be.
Wild and wacky on demand.
Hot under the collar at times.
Everybody knows him well.
Everybody likes him when he's not being a brat.
Love is not hard for him to show.
Everybody wants to slap him sometimes.
Ronnie is ronnie is ronnie.
'Tis well known that President Reagan was very fond of jellybeans.
On the ranch he groomed his faithful hoss and wore some grubby jeans.
During cabinet meetings he had a ritual that was somewhat bizarre!
They made no major decisions 'til he passed around the jellybean jar!

A couple of friends from way back when
Unique people who I really liked even then
Rare jewels that are very hard to find
Even through the years they stayed on my mind
A couple of people who made me smile
Angels they were who made life worthwhile
Now they are back to make me smile again
Dear friends who I treasure since way back when
Ronnie and Aurea I thank you both
Outstanding friends to you I make this oath
Never will I forget good friends like you
Not even when you are not in view
I will always share with both of you
Everlasting friendship that is only shared by few
For my dearest friends from high school
absence and the passing of years bears no bearing to true friendship...
JEB
R-really caring
O-obviously not shy
N-never less boring
N-nice guy
I-i never really met
E-even in life
- sure he's out there in the world
- wondering who is this girl
- don't mind me dear Ronnie
- I'm just a talented teen
he pulled me with his peddle tractor
my wagon’s weight was no factor
They were my favorite band
When I was just a kid
They were my helping hand
Through all that I did
When it comes to Skynyrd
What more can I say
A joke on coach Lynyrd
Just swept me away
Ronnie tried to warn us all
About the needle and spoon
How far we would fall
I was hooked way to soon
At the end of it all
I try as hard as I can
For I no longer fall
I’m just a simple man
To my life the greatest
songwriter/composer
That ever lived was
Ronnie Van Zant. For
Brian's contest. The
"Needle & Spoon" & the
song Simple Man had
the greatest influence
on my life. One as a
stupid kid the other as
a wise old man.
I could not go
I could not eat
I could not smoke
I could not breathe
I could not live
I could not die
I could not go
I had to go
I had to eat
I had to smoke
I had to breathe
I had to live
I had to let the love die
I had to go without him there by my side
