Retaining Thoughts
Miracle Man

Often, thoughts skip by like shooting stars,
seemingly with ease they escape my mindset.
I’m just Wright’ing a poem not my memoirs,
did God not want causing me to forget?
“Sometimes I imagine the bridge is out
between brain and keyboard.”

The sadness had been costing you sorrow.
That may daunt you, but it will not kill you.
It's just the ground, it is rather narrow.
The sadness had been costing you sorrow.
You could hear the rest of the tale morrow.
Much to say, but your heart still beating too.
The sadness had been costing you sorrow.
That may daunt you, but it will not kill you.

I love being joyful and enthusiastic
To retain this and nurture it I please myself
I paint, I write poetry, I draw cartoons
I spend time with my grandchildren.
They bring hilarity and joy in terrific doses.
If you have forgotten how to have joy
Think back to the days when you knew how to play
What things did you want to do for hours and hours?
Do them now.

John had turned a bit cynical
His mind was hardening
His skull blew out ideas that did not fit.
I have seen everything, he said.
What about Christmas?
Seen it, done it, wearing the T-shirt.
But not this Christmas.
Death rattle of his throat told her he was retaining his sour.
Have you seen that? What about that?
Have you seen that? Seen it, done it, got the T-shirt.
She was running out of ideas; he was determined to be obstinate.
A snowflake paused in front of his eye sockets.
Wait! He said. I have not seen this.
She looked at the snow flake.
I have never seen this one, he said.
This is something new.
She watched his heart open.
