Halloween

Halloween

A twin we do not already harbor on
The inside, cannot reach from without grasping
Its relationship — as love needs love to complete
The docket...so does fear. So does terror need
Its own horrid port if to impress.

Halloween...little devils in costumes —
wee, creatures dressed for the parade,
Door to door. Trick Or Treat! The real trick,
Is that of evil seeming harmless. Playful. In
Theatrical, fantastical sense. And the treat,
The Devil activating negative seeds for future harvest.

Evil — sly, subtle.

Our makeup exteriors reflections of far deeper
Dyes within, tattoo illustrations, spiritual stains —

The many indelible, wrongly nurtured traditions —

World fruit bear witness to their sources —

Man retaining affiliation with dark illusion.

Yes, some of our celebrations though for fun tend to influence us negatively. About Halloween, I share your apprehensions, though we don't have it here. Well thought out dear Joe.

Interesting history of Halloween celebration. A link I found on the internet is a fairly thorough analysis. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloween -- thank you, Valsa.

I happen to agree with you -- and I felt this way even as a kid. I have always thought of Halloween as the incarnation of evil. Why would anyone celebrate the release of evil spirits into the world?! Beats me. ~ Gershon

I hear you, Gershon; maybe for just that purpose? Maybe to get them out of ourselves for clear review and expulsion. Nothing enters this world that we do not translate. In a way, maybe evil fantasy is a way of seeing the evil we are capable of, if taken to the next step. As you say, that is the scary part of Halloween. Why celebrate such a thing. Great observation!

I appreciate the depth and insights you provided....something as seemingly innocent as Halloween costumes/activities are merely the seeds of darkness...I agree. We've normalized something that probably should not be. wishing you a pleasant evening

Hi Sara; thank you. Just adding a little more dimensional thought to the holiday. Not telling people not to celebrate. I just ask the questions. What in fact are we celebrating?

I enjoyed reading your powerful "Halloween" write. Many years ago, I gave out packets of hot chocolate mix. Thought better than candy. The next day in the mail box, I found the mix all inside. What a mess to clean out. No more giving out, light off. Yes, evil is sly. "Good Luck" if for a contest. Have a blessed day writing away.........

Yes, very sly. Who knows? A strange holiday. Maybe someone who has more accurate understanding of the tradition will enlighten us, how it began...maybe to chase evil, disease from the village, or to appease the creature in us all? Strangely, a holiday I've celebrated, grown up with, but never have done any serious research. I'm going to look on the internet and see if there are some historical facts I can glean. Thank you, Paula. Fun facts I just found on the internet: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloween
