Pursuant Poems

X - Men

They are a group of people with special powers,
They are a class of people with unique abilities,
Males and females with human frailties,
They are united in their pursuits.

Called to be defenders,
They stand against their contenders,
Who are unrelenting in staging their rage,
Putting the non-mutants into their cage.

They are a formidable team
Their unique powers beam
into every dark alley and sinister trail,
To expose every villain without fail.

A group founded by one man,
With a vision to teach and train every mutant,
To be justice and peace pursuant,
And to be a force for good.

QUESTIONS….

They thought my
dinnertime inquiries
about their days at public school
were interrogations, investigations
pursuant to suspicions of misbehavior,
missing homework, dissatisfaction or
deeply hidden traumas needing parental
intervention
I must have seemed imposing and
invasive, annoyingly aggressive as
I peppered them with questions, ignored
their heavy sighs of resistance, their impatient
rustle of reluctance and refused to accept
their silence as they hid behind their mother
like Black Bear cubs in a forest making sense of
dangerous smells
Unhappy in my marriage
all I wanted was to know them,
understand their thoughts and dreams,
share in every new adventure, in every exploration,
in every damn discovery and in the daily new
delights that only thoughtful kids delivered,
full of bright and shining promises taking flight
toward the future, making me really glad
to love them, making me glad
to be their Dad!

In His Footsteps

No other would be my hero,
No other valiant combatant I have seen,
He gave all up until zero.

On his premise, I’d rather lean,
Imbibe his bravery and courage,
Fight every opposition until I win.

Wage against every tempestuous rage,
Disperse the midnight fog,
Break loose from fear’s cage.

Freed my wheel from its cog,
Wield my sword against the assailant,
Push all down the hill like a log.

Persevere until I've warded off the pursuant.

remember, sometime will become
the rest of your life

we feel each others fingers as they mingle
with each others hair
we never know from which is which
or where is where

until we have to part to start anew
awakened by

not the light
but the breaking of light

a freedom sound
as it escapes from shadow

the chase, the capture
the escape,

night following day
light penetrating night

pursuant to the new

it was before your time
murmurs, then moans
then a breath inhaled by two
exploding into you
conceiving something
greater than themselves

pursuant to the new

striving toward equality
a neutrality that would remove
all striving

pursuant to the new

It was after our time
when history returned

there was never a new to pursue

only an undiscovered part
of the turning wheel

I say, this is for a delightful poetic playground of golden words I did receive
Transcendency is the pursuant goal for you and I to ascend to and achieve

The colorful use of lofty words that were chosen by high decrees
Then the words to be transcribe on translucent paper for all to see

For, to speak to; to tell to and to write to poetic these:
Rhymes, similes, alliterations, metaphors, and vibrant imagery

The enabling for the unfolding of hidden scrolls, deep within one’s soul
The artistry uses of the canvas of life, nature and environments told

Writings of phrases philosophical, sublime, unique and esoteric
Yet, strokes are of love, joy, passion, compassion and lamentation

Poetic Artistry as if it was a sculpture chiseled
Then tanned and engraved on fine paper parchments

An unspoken romanticism possible between it and thee
Everlasting masterpieces that makes you gleam and beam

The Protected One
Written: by Tom Wright
2/25/2017

Blocked from my memory, a segment of time,
For Cardiac Arrest was then taking its toll.
From above was music, to my ears, sublime,
But God was not hasty in claiming my soul.

The curtains of heaven parted just for me,
No other could discern God’s angelic choir.
Christian people were praying and did agree,
God was in control though it appeared dire.

Doctors have told me that I shouldn’t be here,
That a miracle, that day, happened in my life.
While my wife and others were sated with fear,
God, the great physician, directed the knife.

As I now look back at recent fields I’ve plowed,
I’m told that my surviving was at eight percent.
While physically battered my spirit was unbowed,
For God was not ready for my Heavenly ascent.

Since, Doctors and workers often refer to me,
As a Fighter, The Protected One, or Miracle Man;
But I’m only the vehicle that God chose by decree,
And all things will transpire pursuant to His plan.

Identity

As very young children, we did what we did in a non-reflective way
No critical thinking or questioning about our being okay.
As a school- age child other's reactions begin to be learned
Beginning to integrate how approval was something to be earned.
As a teen self-conscious and uncertain, as if being on display;
A persona affected by the audience of the day.
The pursuit of crossing that line
As a clearer self begins to define.
Less need for other's validation
More self-affirmation.
As less outer pursuant,
An individual more congruent.
Each a separate entity...
The cherished gift of identity.

"Proper Pam im-promiscuity carries a
tepid torch against the blank footlights
of a dimlit digital marital marquee---last on the
billing of a car-null double featurette like
a black and white bijou plotless rerun
hand cranked by an arthritic arm;
pit pursuant of
quicksand lust with a gray gaze monotony
able to hitchhike from a plavce point left
only undetermined,
I've seen more action from a shoe sticky floor
or a large hole in an uncomfortable seat cushion,
not to "juxtapare" mind me but what a
chronofile, if briefcases couldspeak and not the
numbers from the credit card diction-ary of child
desires---stratfied pleasures far from TILT
lean calmly on majestic inconsequentials--like
ships passing in the night.

Drifting

Architects speciously building never ending bridges spanning distances that reach a
nowhere, other than in my barren and muted heart

The emptiness and the silence, intangible liabilities which never truly do exist but,
pursuant of life’s contradictions seem only to persist in deeper parts

Persistent, I am the drifting man journeying on long forgotten pebble strewn side roads,
merely lonesome until momentary lapses of the vessels which pass me by

Further down the highways past horizons, finds me upon the crossroads standing, astride,
then to gaze in either direction, I am most cynically defined and yet still, no reason, no
rhyme nothing ever do I find

Glancing back to the trailing miles of this prolonging existence, questions are only
places time has left behind but, without the answers I simply cannot surpass beyond my
presence of this wandering life
